Brenda has worked in the field of Physical Therapy for the past 18 years. She received a Bachelor’s Degree of Physical Therapy from the University of Guadalajara, Mexico in 1992; as well as an A.S. Degree of Physical Therapy Assistant from Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA in 2000. She has dedicated the last 7 years towards working with children with special needs through Early Intervention with children 0-3 years old, as well as school based therapy from preschool to high school age kids. She is the mother of two boys age 9 and 5 years old. She also has experience in outpatient orthopedic/neurological rehab, aquatic therapy, inpatient acute/ ortho /neurological /cardiac rehab, and skill nursing facility for short/long term care. She has training and experience using sensory integration and sensory processing disorders, autism and asperger syndrome, hypotonia, functional strengthening and stretching techniques, balance and gait training, and lymphedema care. She is happy to be part of the team at PRPT!

Modalities such as cervical and lumbar traction, interferential current (TENS), ultrasound, heat and ice that are used appropriately to help reduce pain, inflammation and muscle guarding.
Iontophoresis
Beyond the standard strength and mobility testing, which can reveal much about what needs to be addressed, for each region there are specific tests to assess the nerves and structures of the given area. After assessing these structures the therapist can devise a treatment plan to address the issues found. This may include strengthening, stretching, gaining nerve mobility, restoring normal joint kinematics (proper joint movement), improving balance and coordination, as well as other specific treatment procedures. We may also use modalities to aid in healing, including electrical stimulation, ultrasound, iontophoresis, light therapy, heat or cold.

Orthopedics
Alyson grew up in Visalia, California and got into sports at an early age including swimming, water polo, and basketball. Her love of movement, activity, and understanding the human body led her into physical therapy. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) at Fresno State. While earning her Doctorate, she spent time in clinical settings including neurological rehab, orthopedics, and home health. She also participated in and conducted research with fall-risk prevention, balance outcome measures, and the benefits of power training with decreasing fall risk. Her professional career includes work in the acute rehabilitation setting with neurological cases including CVA, brain injury rehabilitation, and Parkinson’s. She has a certification with PWR!Moves and is a Certified Neurological Specialist. She has a passion for the neurologic population as well as orthopedics, and enjoys incorporating her passions of biomechanics, strength training, and gait mechanics into both neurological and orthopedic cases. Outside of work, Alyson enjoys all things in nature including surfing, paddling, hiking, running, and drinking coffee.
