    Authentic Sushi & Japanese

    Provided by

My Japanese friend and I had lunch here the other day. He was raving about how good and authentic the food is. Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I am going to recommend them for a catering job @ my office.

    Great place

It was a nice place to eat. Good sushi especially. The chicken teriyaki had a nice flavor. I would recommend the place to others.

    Best sushi in Palo Alto

    Provided by

Though the portions are small and the food can be perceived to be pricey, the overall experience is classy and yummy - one of the best sushi places you'll find in Palo Alto.

A Fine Meal or a Sushi and Sake Night!

    Provided by

For twenty five years I've enjoyed the hospitality of the Io family at their restaurant called Fuki-Sushi. During my early career in Silicon Valley their much smaller (at the time) Fuki-Sushi was a home away from home, where quality food and ingredients was always the standard. Whether it was simple oyako donburi or a tsukiyaki, the experience was more of a home-cooked meal than that of a restaurant. \r \r It has been with a sense of pride as a customer that I've seen Fuki-Sushi grow as an establishment. They have gorgeously expanded and renovated, with an inviting reception area, an enlarged main dining area and sushi bar, and private tatami rooms with their quiet elegance. More importantly they have maintained the quality of food and service that originated from their simple beginnings.\r \r I've had occasion to host corporate events at this fine establishment, where the Io family has gone out of their way to make my guests comfortable and satiated. Whether a private dinner meeting in a tatami room with a dedicated hostess, to a lively Sushi-and-Sake night, Fuki-Sushi has been a crowd-pleaser. At a special sushi bar, they have even taught my clients and friends how to roll-your-own sushi, quite a memorable experience in making your own spider hand roll!\r \r From this perspective, both as a discriminating diner seeking a fine meal, to someone seeking only the best for a corporate event, I have depended on the Io family for their consistent quality and hospitality. To say that I am biased might be an understatement, but it is a bias based on experience.

    Worst place to be!

    Provided by

I heard so much good things about Fuki Sushi and read good reviews. (Of course, I read bad reviews too, but I did not pay much attention) So, when my husband and I went there for the first time, we had very high anticipation to be served with high quality sushi. \r However, our anticipation turned to nightmare! Every single sushi we ordered was terrible. The quality of sushi was really bad, far far from fresh.(Uni was the worst!)\r We have never experienced such a bad quality sushi at any other places! Since it was our first time at Fuki Sushi, I cannot say that they 'ALWAYS' serve bad quality sushi. \r But, if I'm going to spend $150 or more, I will go to other places! I will not take a chance. Fuki Sushi is way over priced for their low quality sushi! \r Lesson learned! - I would pay more attention to bad reviews since those bad reviews can happen to me, just like what happened to me at Fuki Sushi!\r

The best in the bay area

    Provided by

You'll be hard pressed to find another place as good as this. Food is fresh, and they place a lot of emphasis on the quality of the food and preparation. Many Japanese expats (from Japan) eat here - so I think that's a good indicator of the quality. They even offer sushi cooking classes!

Unbelievable, shocking experience! Avoid this place altogether!!!

    Provided by

My wife and I had been patrons of Fuki Sushi for ten years. We will never go back based on our last experience. \r \r On Sept 12 '07, we opened a $60 take-out order and found a dark, short, curly, human hair in one of our rolls. We were disgusted and immediately threw the order in the trash. It was obvious that the piece of hair could only come from one of two areas of a body. \r \r My wife and I eat out a lot and have never had an experience like this. We also rarely complain but do bring things up to management when a need to raise awareness is compelling. And, we have always found recipients of our feedback appreciative. \r \r At first, the manager who received our call was apologetic. Later that evening, she called with skepticism stating that the owner wanted us to go through our trash and send the hair to them. She insisted that the hair could not have come from anyone in their restaurant since she had talked to everyone ? that it must have come from one of their distributors, e.g. the tobiko company. I could not believe my ears and politely said I was extremely disappointed in the way Fuki Sushi was handling this situation (and was flabbergasted that the owner would ask customers to go through trash). \r \r Needless to say, my wife was irritated when I conveyed Fuki's sentiment. Against my wishes, she went through our trash, pulled out the hair, put it in an envelope and sent it to Fuki Sushi. \r \r It is easy to ride a wave of success but, to us, Fuki Sushi is showing its true colors and defining itself by its response to this situation. These types of things happen in restaurants. After some time, I suspect my wife and I would have returned if Fuki Sushi had stuck with their original apology (the manager initially volunteered to remove the charge for the dinner that we did not eat). But after the way they treated us, we no longer call ourselves their customers. By the way, Fuki Sushi opted to charge us in full anyway.

Absolutely the Best Sushi I have Ever Had

    Provided by

Maybe the best food I ever had in my life... I have eaten sushi for my entire life; in the bay area, New York and Los Angeles. This place is phenomenal. The nigiri portions are great and the fish are incredibly fresh and tasty. Their spicy rolls (an option on almost every roll they offer) is excellent. Spicy spider is painfully good. On the expensive side, but well worth it. I recommend avoiding the California rolls though, the only thing on the menu not quite 5 stars.

    Great rolls and sashimi, pricey

    Provided by

The food is fresh, delicate, and subtle. Sushi rolls are actually a reasonable size, meaning you can fit one in your mouth versus having to take a bite out of one and have it all fall apart. The portions are not so generous given the price and waits can be long even with a reservation.

One of the best sushi restaurants in Bay Area

    Provided by

Either for lunch or dinner -- fish is always fresh, rice is perfect, service is prompt, staff is very pleasant. The only complaint I have is the bill -- over $100 for 2 people, which means portions are smaller than most other places, but well worth the exatra dow. Rolls are exceptional. Another thing to be aware of is it seems like it's popular for family dinners -- on a Sunday night there might be quite a few people with kids, and with arrogant peninsula crowd consideration for comfort of others is the last thing on minds of geniuses showing up there with babies.

    Way overpriced

    Provided by

I was very disappointed by this place. I had heard it's expensive but that they have good sushi. Wrong. It is way overpriced for what you get, and the sushi is mediocre. For the price I would expect way better food than that. The service is o.k., the table next to us was getting really slow service so I think it depends on the waitress you get. Ambience is o.k., and clean. Definitely not authentic if you are looking for an authentic experience.\r As a Japanese person, this sushi place is NOT recommended there are better sushi places in the bay area for a more reasonable price.

    not as great

    Provided by

Ok their website is BEAUTIFUL! but dont be fooled. we waited for over an hour for our food bc i thought it was going to be worth it. the sushi was really really underrated. my roll was DRENCHED in teriyaki sauce which was weird because i've never seen that on a california roll. their ice cream was good. with the red beans on top of it.. it was a nice place on the inside.. it's just not as good as everyone says it is. i was very disappointed because i love sushi of all types and have had it all good and bad.

Avoid California Rolls and Sake Nigiri

    Provided by

Previously, I enjoyed fresh, delicious sushi at Fuki Sushi. I went this Sunday, 6/18, and the California Rolls used fake crab legs instead of the fresh crab meat they used to be famous for. The Sake Nigiri was fatty and didn't taste fresh. What a disappointment! It had only been a couple months since I last went. Obiviously, something happened. The rating on citysearch.com needs to change for Fuki Sushi, it was not a 9.2. Give that rating to Naomi Sushi, they have been consistently good.

Better Dining In than for Take out!

    Provided by

We ordered take out our first time trying the food and it was OK. The next time, we tried dining in (this is supposed to be the best place around) and the food was better, the ambiance was enjoyable and the staff were friendly. We got to try more dishes - and liked the fried tofu appetizer, loved the Dragon and Almond Shrimp Rolls, and for dessert the coffee mochi we tried to split was so good, we had to order another! We find the prices reasonable, except for any of the noodles, they aren't to our liking.

Best Japanese for more than twenty years

    Provided by

I really love this restaurant, as I have been eating there for more than twenty years; with family, friends, alone.... The service is excellent, especially when I am alone, although sometimes when I am with family it can be a little sluggish...hmmmm (grin). Heeheehee. Anyway, back to the review.....Food is excellent, especially the Spicy Agedashi Tofu, the Soba soups, the House salad, and the tempuras. I love the added daily special menu. I have recently become highly fond of sushi, and the sushi here is delicious. The hosts (owners)--I have known them a loooooooooong time--are soooo wonderful.

This is a good japanese place especially

    Provided by

for sashimi, but not for rolls. My salmon teriyaki was overcooked and didn't flake nicely as it should. I was disappointed esp. since it was way overpriced.

    forget aboutit

    Provided by

It's too bad you can't return the food you ordered. Since my favorite place closed in palo alto (hygashi west) I tried this place. From the get go things went sour; service was bad took forever to get our drinks, portions small, yellow tail was chewy. the owners have personalities like stop signs. I changed my table 3 times. All this for $120.00 out the door.

    Too Expensive!

    Provided by

Fukisushi is way overpriced. A Dragon Roll is $12, Spider Roll $9.50, and Rainbow Roll $9.35. My boyfriend and I had sushi and sake and the bill was $120 before tip! The seats are incredibly cramped and the mood is totally unromantic because you can hear the conversation next to you. There are so many better Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area that are half the price.

    Best Sushi in the 650!

    Provided by

I've been to many sushi restaurants in the bay area and SF and rank Fuki Sushi at the top. Their fresh fish and great service will make your evening or lunch a true treat. Prices are a bit high but as with all quality food your body with thank you. Well worth a try.
