I cannot day enough about Dr April. She saved our Leopard Gecko twice. Once we added a Zoo Med hot rock and it burned the poor little guys tail. Second time he was impacted. Well, the second time she did the whole thing on the phone on Sunday night while also tending to another patient. Amazing how much she cares about these animals. She is definitely not in it for the money. In fact, she didn’t even charge me the second time. She was on the phone with me for 45 minutes!! Also...there isn’t even another doctor with her certifications in Exotics/reptiles in the area and I live all the way in Jupiter. Wouldn’t take my animal anywhere else. Thank you Dr April. We love you.

I have been a customer with Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic in Palm City for almost two years. I have the highest regard for their service, expertise and professionalism. Their number one focus is the health, care and well being of birds and animals. I was impressed with Dr. April Romagnano's knowledge, experience, competency and concern for my bird in diagnosis, routine checkups and knowing what steps to take to remedy any problem. She is acutely aware of a customers concern for their pet and has always had the time to discuss any situation, problem or answer any questions, for which she has never failed to have an answer. I have also found her staff to be equally able in caring for my bird, especially her assistant Lisa, whom I've dealt with on many occasions. She is equally knowledgeable, competent, caring, friendly, and is always in touch with the Dr. if not immediately available. It's comforting to know they're there for both customer and the "little patients".

I have had my birds under Dr. April's care for the 13 years that I have been in Fl. She has been professional ,compassionate and supportive. Her avian veterinary specialty gives me confidence when I have concerns regarding their health and well being.
Veterinary care is an important part of your pet's overall health. I want the best for them and Dr. April has my trust.

If you go here and your appointment is at 2 be prepared to wait a couple of hours doctor is always late also make sure money is not an issue because you will not leave without a hefty bill. The doctor is abrupt rude and treats her staff the same.

My son needed care for his hedgehog. She met us after hours and cared for him with great care and at a fair cost. Thank you for caring for the pets and the kids that love them.

My tortoise would not be alive today if it were not for Dr. April and her staff. I have been working at animal hospitals for 16 years as a vet assistant and I have never had a true emergency situation with one of my own pets. On top of it, I have never had to take my pets to a clinic I was not working at or to a vet I have never met. I currently work in CO at an exotic animal vet hospital and brought my small Greek tortoise along with me while I was visiting family in FL. While in FL, a large sulcata tortoise bit my Greek tortoise on the head and he had very severe injuries that I did not think he would survive. This happened in the evening when most clinics were closing. I called many hospitals - all of which said they would be closing soon and could not see my severely injured tortoise. Dr. April was the only one willing to see him. I arrived with my tortoise when the clinic should have been closed, and Dr. April stayed after hours to treat him. I feel so lucky that my tortoise was in her hands for those first several weeks after his injury. In fact, now I'm so glad that all other vets would not see him, because I do not think I could have trusted someone more than I trust Dr. April. She nursed him back to health and, although he is blind and lost part of his beak, he is very happy and acts like a normal tortoise again. My tortoise and I are back in CO with the exotic vet that I work for, but Dr. April still keeps in touch and offers her knowledge and experience when it comes to getting him to eat solid foods on his own again. Dr. April offers her own cell phone for emergencies (I have never known another veterinarian to do this). She was always available to talk to on her cell when I wanted to discuss my tortoises progress. She truly went above and beyond and I felt as though she treated my tortoise as if it were her own pet. She is so passionate and knowledgeable about exotics. There are many vets that may be willing to see exotic animals, but to find a vet that is AVBP BOARD CERTIFIED and publishes in journals, texts, etc., is very rare! She has so much knowledge and experience that I would trust her with any one of my exotic animals. And speaking from experience of working in vet hospitals, her prices are VERY reasonable. I will be moving to FL in the near future and look forward to having an exotic animal vet that I trust with my exotics!

I wish I could give this "vet" April a negative 5 star review. One star is far too generous for this shrill. This woman should be banned from practicing any medicine...anywhere! She lies about being the only local avian vet "for 500 miles". (There is a highly qualified vet and exotic animal clinic in Loxahatchee, FL.) My 10 year old lovebird was taken to April a while back after falling from his perch. She acted so caring on the phone, but then proceeded to bring me to tears in her office by telling me I was killing my bird by feeding it seed. I was coerced through my guilt, into leaving my baby there for two nights and when I returned to pick him up less than 48 hours later, I had a $1050.00 bill, $250 of which was for OXYGEN!!!! My lovebird barely weighed 10oz!!! As a nurse, I know we don't even charge people in hospitals that much for O2! Now, I gladly paid that money, without qualm, just happy to have my baby back, but within two days of being discharged, my bird was once again falling from his perch. This c-u-next-tuesday is an opportunistic sadist who is so greedy and so money hungry, she should be a hedge fund manager. RUN the other way. Call the Rainforest Clinic in Loxahatchee! You'll be sooo glad you did!!! The positive reviews here must be from friends and family.

my 4 year old ferret, Chelsea, had a terrible accident on xmas day (12/25/14). she was sleeping in some clothes and was placed in our front load washing machine. the machine was turned on. by the time we figured this out and saved her, she was barely alive. she was hardly breathing, bleeding everywhere, her lungs were full of water. it was beyond terrible. we love this sweet fur ball more then anything. freaking out and with broken hearts, we took chelsea to Dr. April to have her put to sleep. Dr. April examined and x-rayed Chelsea, and told us that she was determined to bring our ferret back to us ! she put her into intensive care ( oxygen tent, drugs, etc ), and we did not see her for 4 days. when we got Chelsea back she was already on the mend. with Dr. April's advice and further drug treatment, within 4 weeks, Chelsea was 100% herself and is as playful and loving as if this tragic accident had never happened. I have had pet ferrets for 25 years and I have had vets all over the US including NYC. I have never met a doctor as dedicated and knowledgable as Dr. April. I will always be grateful for Dr. Aprils saving Chelsea's life. and we are all lucky to have a Dr. April with us. I would trust her with any pet that you have! Jack C.

I am a well established patient of Dr April for quite sometime now, I have never met a vet so highly dedicated to her practice and her patients care. I have worked in law enforcement as a road patrol sergeant and have on numerous occasions seen pets get injured and receive minimal care with different facilities. It broke my heart. I have seen good and I have seen horrible treatment these pets received. When I adopted a guinea pig (Sally) from the pet store, I was never given information as to where to take her for physicals and follow up care. I researched on my own cautiously because I wanted the absolute best care for Sally and I wouldn't settle for anything less. I was very fortunate to find Dr April. Since day one of having met Dr April, she has gone above and beyond to make sure Sally was thoroughly examined and healthy. Dr April despite her excellent care and treatment of Sally on numerous occasions never charged me more then what was a reasonable rate. Prior to performing any exams or procedures she made sure I knew what the procedures were, the risk and who would be assisting her with a surgical procedure and informed me of the cost of the procedure . I have witnessed this with many other patients. As I sit in her waiting room , waiting to be called back to the patients room, I here patients talk amongst each other as to how wonderful Dr April is and how she goes above and beyond for their pets care and works with them financially if needed and never over charges them. Dr April has a wonderful staff especially vet tech Lisa who actually assisted Dr April in a surgical procedure with Sally , Because Dr April cares so much for her patients , she makes sure her staff is well trained. Dr April and Lisa both did an amazing job with Sally and I could never be more grateful. Dr April has made herself available 24/7 which is not common in todays trend. It is either take your pet to the ER where they charge 10 times as much and completely unaffordable. Dr April understands financial hardship and has always been reasonable and yet provides excellent care to the pets. This clearly shows her patients care is the most important thing. I recently saw Dr April (May 2014) and because of her my guinea pig is healthy and doing great. Once again she went above and beyond, she explained in detail how to properly care for my guinea pig to help avoid certain illnesses etc. She even took the time to discuss a issue that my dog is having (possible cushions disease), she read the results that I had with me and immediately contacted a vet for a second opinion while I was at the appointment for Sally. It turns out that my dog just might have cushions and because Dr April assisted me with my concerns she just might have saved my dogs life. She has referred me to the proper doctor for a repeated test and possible treatment. So to Dr April ,thank you with all my heart for going above and beyond for me and my family and the love you show Sally and all your other family members of Avian Exotic Animal Clinic. You are a true gift and these patients are blessed to have you to care and look out for them. When I come to the clinic I see just how happy they all are as they try to heal. Your a gift to your patients and their families as well as society. We will all forever be grateful!

Words cannot begin to express how wonderful Dr. April is! She has never given me and my birds anything less than 110%. You do have to plan to wait a while in the waiting room, but once you are in the exam room you will understand why. This is not bad at all since she has such a great group of girls working in her office. Time does not seem important to her, only making sure that every animal that walks into her office receives the best care. I only wish more human doctors were like this!

I brought our Green Cheek Conure (Jensen) in for an office visit on Wed (3/19/14) to remove a string that had gotten wrapped around his leg from a play toy and was quoted $90 for the procedure.

After removing the string from my bird’s leg Dr. April Romagnano took him off to another room and invited me to watch, saying she needed to cut his leg to relieve whatever pressure that had built up from the swelling. The entire time she was bossing her staff around in a condescending tone, along with her son who was in the room, and when I shared with the doctor that one of our dogs had died recently her only response was, “Oh, why is that?”

At no point was I told there would be any additional charges, and all I was asked to do was sign a surgery consent that asked if I wanted the bird chipped for an additional cost, to which I stated no.

After the doctor finished (maybe 30 minutes) I was presented with a bill for nearly $600 by her assistant in the lobby, and they’ve refused to release the bird until I pay. He’s now been in there for over a week and I have no idea what additional charges are being tacked on to the bill, since the doctor still has never called to back to discuss it, while I’ve been told multiple times she would. The only people I’m able to talk to are her assistants, who state the doctor claims she reviewed the charges with me, which is an outright lie and I’m even willing to take a lie detector test.

This is such an extreme response from a vet that I don’t know what to make of it, and my two children are devastated by the situation, because they don't understand why Jensen didn't come home. The bird only cost $199, which I stated on the new patient paperwork, so I was hesitant to even spend $90 over a string, let alone $600 given I'm currently unemployed and have two toddlers to feed, as well as another dog and cat.

Dr April and her staff are by FAR the most competent and amazing Avian specialists that I have ever met. They provide the extensive care available and the 24/7 emergency has saved more than one of my birds.

Thank you again!

I called Dr. April on Sunday e...

I called Dr. April on Sunday evening at about 4pm. My daughter's rabbit had an infection due to a tooth issue. I could not find any vets in my area that were willing to see us. We were two hours away and Dr. April was two hours away from the office and agreed to meet us at 6pm on a Sunday evening. Dr. April was willing to meet us without hesitation. The fact Dr. April was willing to go out of our way to meet us on a Sunday evening for my daughter's rabbit says so much about her practice and her professionalism. I highly recommend Dr. April and would not hesitate to bring my animals to her again in the future.
