Teeth Cleaning
As bone is lost in your mouth, deeper pockets develop below the gum line. Deep pockets allow excessive pooling of bacteria which may destroy the bones in your mouth and eat away at the roots of your teeth. As bacteria pools in the deep pockets of your gums, it forms tartar. It is almost impossible to reach and remove this tartar via dental cleanings.

Crowns
Crown lengthening is a periodontic procedure often recommended to patients who are making over their smiles. With crown lengthening, Dr. Cohen removes excess gum tissue to reveal more tooth structure. The result is a symmetrical gum line that elegantly frames your teeth.

Root Canal Treatment
I consider dental costs a long-term investment for my health and well-being, not to mention for appearance reasons. Poor dental health can cause serious issues that would surprise some of us. I felt the cost of my surgery was acceptable and so worth the outcome of how I now feel - pain-free! I had been in so much pain and had to accept the inevitable removal of a molar due to a failed root canal and severe bone loss due to long term infection (due to a broken file left in a root canal by a former dentist).

Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
A gingivectomy removes a small amount of excess gum tissue. To perform your gingivectomy, Dr. Cohen uses laser to trim back your gum tissue. A gingivectomy requires little downtime and can have dramatic results for your appearance.
Periodontal Surgery
Periodontal surgery, just like most surgeries, is intricate and sometimes complex. Dr. Cohen recommends general anesthesia for some surgical treatments and procedures. When general anesthesia is part of your periodontal care, a licensed anesthesiologist administers medication and monitors your vital signs throughout your surgery.

Dentures
Once your dental implants are in, Dr. Cohen or your dentist, can snap a prosthesis or denture into place. All-on-4 restores most of your chewing function. And, with All-on-4 you never have to worry about slippage.
Overdentures
Dr. Cohen typically enters the area from where the upper teeth used to be. The sinus membrane is then lifted upward and bone graft material is inserted into the floor of the sinus. Keep in mind that the floor of the sinus is the roof of the upper jaw. After several months of healing, the bone becomes part of the patient's jaw and dental implants can be inserted and stabilized in this new sinus bone. The sinus graft makes it possible for many patients to have dental implants. This offers vast improvements overdentures that may become loose over time and make talking and chewing difficult.

Dental Implants
The maxillary sinuses are behind your cheeks and on top of the upper teeth. Sinuses are like empty bowls with a lining on the bottom. Some of the roots of the natural upper teeth extend up into the maxillary sinuses. When these upper teeth are removed, there is often just a thin wall of bone separating the maxillary sinus and the mouth. Dental implants need bone to hold them in place. When the sinus wall is very thin, it is impossible to place dental implants in this bone. The goal of the procedure is to lift the lining (also called a "membrane") up so that more bone can be>developed in the area to support an implant.

Tooth Extractions
Ridge Augmentation
The development of the appearance of full bone and tissue can also be achieved with Soft Tissue Ridge Augmentation. The goal is to thicken the areas requiring treatment, so they appear fuller. Soft Tissue Augmentation typically utilizes either transplanted thick tissue from the palate or donor tissue. This tissue is then placed between the existing gum and bone to "plump" up the area. This procedure is similar to the one described in the Gingival Grafts section.
Bone Grafting
Bone Grafting is traditionally used in conjunction with pocket-reduction surgery. Bone regeneration procedures involve utilization of bone materials (powders) that come in a variety of forms including donor and synthetic.

Cosmetic Dentistry
Patients whose treatment includes the use of "Crowns" and "Bridges" also need sufficient bone and gum tissue present so that the new dental work appears natural. Proper ratios of the amount of gum and tooth showing are critical for ideal smile design. Many times in this situation, the appearance of the full bone and gum tissue is all that is needed to make the cosmetic dentistry appear natural.
