The review left by ConcernedCamper is a poor attempt to slander the campground and the owner. I'm pretty sure this was left by an individual that was evicted from the grounds after ripping off the owner for an entire summer.

This is a fantastic campground...

This is a fantastic campground with all the features and accomodations that one can expect from a small privately owned campground. I strongly disagree with the previous very harsh review. It seems as though this outrageously critical review comes from people who first, don't know the campground and its staff, second have a huge misconception as to what behavior is acceptable in a campground.

I have spent a lot of time camping at hickory oaks campground, and I must say that I've always been treated fairly and with professionalism. Of course, i never engaged in ridiculous wasting and inapropriate behavior, so I rightfully so never had to deal with the owner asking me to leave. I know the owner very well, and he is a man of integrity and always shows honesty and fairness toward customers.

I strongly recommend this campground to those of us who have a basic sense of respect and social behavior.

It's unfortunate that those na...

It's unfortunate that those named "Pam" and "Tony" are slandering a delightful family campground. Frankly, if I was the owner, I would have pressed charges against certain individuals in this very group that camped at the campground in August.

There were approximately 40 in the clan, which is a fairly small group and easily manageable in this campground setting. Unfortunately, they showed negligence while staying at the grounds – leaving campsites with so many cigarette butts and cellophane wrappers which had to be literally raked out of the sites, and causing holding tanks to overflow with excessive use of water utilities, which included washing their dishes in the facility showers and bathroom sinks - then lying to the owner when they were asked what they were doing in the restrooms for over an hour (hmmm, don’t they know about paper plates and how well they work when camping???). After the owner walked into the showers and saw all the food residue and crud left by them washing their dishes in the showers and sinks, he had enough and told them they were not welcome at the campground any longer. And it is because of this, that "Pam" and "Tony" are retaliating by placing as many reviews as they can to cut down Hickory Oaks Campground.

I am here to say that I know the owner and I know FULLY the situation that occurred with this group. This owner, who is hard-working and always wanting to accommodate his guests, will not dignify their reviews with an answer, as he is a man of integrity. But I feel I must bring to light the truth regarding these slanderous reviews, once and for all.

Hickory Oaks Campground is a marvelous place to spend time - it's well-kept, popular with many, many returning customers, and the facilities are of high quality in handling larger groups. The location of the campground is unique in that it accommodates for the many music festivals in the area, as well as EAA, sports tournaments, etc., by being only minutes away from any of these events. This campground is also geared for those snowbirds who want to return to Oshkosh during the warm months, of which there are several who return year after year to be close to family/friends they have in the area because they appreciate the cleanliness of the campground and friendliess of the staff.

I have no doubt that this complaining group will continue to post negative reviews because in their minds, they’re “getting back” for being told they are not welcome any longer. But I say, check out Hickory Oaks Campground for yourself - you'll be able to see who's providing honest reviews and who isn’t…

I would NOT recommend this campground! The location is horrible and service is non-existent. On one side is the city's waste dump and on another side is the prison. The campground is VERY small and there is not much to do. The swimming lake is more like a pond and the actual swimming area is quite small, barely enough room for 10 small children to swim in. We had a large group reservation and the reservation process was a headache. They couldn't get our reservation correct and I would avoid paying in advance because apparently they have no organized process for handling and recording payments. They lost one of our payments and basically told me that WE should check to see what happened on OUR end. They took the payment but never even applied it to our reservation. The first night we were there, they accused us of recklessly using the showers and over flowing their holding tank. There were other campers there but apparently because we had a large group, it was our fault. Instead of approaching us and ASKING how many of us took showers to confirm if it was even us, he just ACCUSED us and even came to our campgrounds to check if we were "hiding" additional campers somewhere. When really, only a dozen or so of us took showers that night so there was NO WAY we could have used 1000 gallons of water. This campgrounds is so small and unprofessional that they really should NOT accept group reservations. We informed them in advance how many people to expect and still they did not properly prepare. When we purchased firewood from them, they didn't even want to sell it to us because he said they were running low which would require him to go get more. Makes NO SENSE! We were PAYING for firewood but he acted like we were taking it for free! Why even sell firewood then! If their campground was full, how would they handle the water and firewood situation? I would rate this campground ZERO stars!
