I went to this particular shop because they are... either corporate or franchise, and the one I normally go to was... (the other)... so these guys had a better special, and they are both just about the same distance from my house. Not their fault, the stupid website doesnt let you leave a personalized note with specific instructions (or anything else we need or want to tell them for whatever reason), so after ordering online I had to call. Well EVERYONE was taking advantage of the special that nite so the lines were clogged, and by the time I got thru, my pizza was already in the oven. I wasnt happy but I didnt make a big deal about it... then the more I thought about it I was like, I cant believe Im buying a pizza from a shop right down the street from Orlandos redlight district slum, JUST SO I CAN SAVE A DOLLAR... the place is probably filthy... and if the punk I was just talking to felt like I was arguing with him hes probably making SURE theres cockroaches in it, if there arent already..; So yah, Im just about sick from food poisoning before I even get there... and as Im pulling up I notice it looks kinda... bright... so that was a little comforting considering the area I was driving through to get there... and when I open the door and walk in the place is IMMACULATE; I mean SHINY, SPOTLESS clean... the employees are all also clean, and super friendly, and even very respectful, to all the customers (regardless of everyones... differing... culture (my side of the counter looked like the DNC, and theirs actually looked like the RNC that night!?), Im telling you, if Hotel California was being piped over the PA I wouldve ran for my life... then the manager, who was apparently waiting for me, and also about half my age (Im 42), comes up to me all professional and apologizes, he -italics- shakes my hand, opens the box up and asks if Im sure everythings ok, or did I want him to make me another one- it looked so good I almost shoved my face into the scalding pizza while he was holding it (and when I got home it was AWESOME.) So yah, after I did shove a few slices down, I had to share my bitterness'n'fear-turned-shame'n'delight with their online feedback, assuring them that their pride-and-joy of Orlando sits like a golden palace in the middle of the ghetto... the next day the district mgr calls me to tell me they work very hard at that store, and my feedback made it all the way up to... some national Vice President. Eh, then the next few times I went there it was still very clean but they seemed like pretty typical teenagers, which is fine and normal, and actually a bit relieving cuz that first experience got uh... kinda spooky... and the food has always been great so they always take their baking seriously, which is all that matters to me: I would MUCH rather have good food from a clean restaurant with even the most obnoxious service I ever had, than uh, ANY lesser kind of food or hygiene! So dont storm out of there without your food just because they seem... less than overjoyed to see you, because YOU will be overjoyed when you eat it!
There's the saying that goes something like "Good things found in small places" well, that is what this place is. The location is sure of hidden so if we weren't walking the stretch of International Drive we won't have seen it. It's a smaller place tucked away in like a corner that has very good flavor. My family and I have gone on many vacation to different places and eat all sort of food. The food here didn't have that American/Thai flavor, it was more flavorful and rich. I ate the peanut sort of flavor curry... I think it was Panang Curry, I loved it. I had it before at other places and it's usually watery and blunt in tasting. But this one was thicker and richer, there was a lot too. The rest of my family order, Pad Thai, Sweet Basil Stir-fry, Roasted Duck, and something from the specialty menu but I can't remember what it's called...something with soft shelled crab. But anyway, they were all good. Full of flavor, fresh ingredients....we went at the prefect time, they just open for dinner so it wasn't busy yet. We didn't order any appetizers, so we did have to wait a little because everything is cooked to order...so we didn't mind. I rather wait for fresh food than the already made fast food. Thai food is not like Chinese food and so it's not going to be fast. Plus, you can't compare the two, they're two totally different countries and culture, so the food is also totally different. Of course, we ordered way too much food and didn't finish everything but we did take it home and it tasted as good the second time around. I really like the place and would really love to eat there again when we go back to Orlando.
I have lived in the different boroughs in New York and Jersey, and whoever wrote that nasty review needs to eat somewhere else, because they ain't got any taste! I mean look at the other places they said to eat at. What about mama Mia's awesome food? Did That guy think to even mention that in his review? Racist?!?! What's wrong, they didn't get something for free when they complained? I wouldn't take my family anywhere else to get pizza. We get our pizza on Friday nights and we got to get our wings on Saturday nights. The owners brother has been working there forever, or at least as long as we've been eating there (about 8 years). He cracks us up, and my kids love going there. I also bring people in from work to eat pizza for lunch. I wish i was mama mia because if someone was talkin smack like that about my place and i found out about it... i'd take care of that punk straight up italian style! Whoever wrote that whack review needs to just stay home and eat some nasty frozen grocery store pizza. stop takin up space at my favorite pizza shop, maybe the rest of us who actually know something about good pizza can get served faster. i also live in belle isle, and i'm hoping i ain't got neighbors that messed up! Its nice livin on the water but some of y'all just crazy!
Ray's Pizza and More is a nice eatery that makes excellent pizza. It's located a short distance off South Orange Blossom Trail, on Lancaster Road, in Orlando (about 4/10's of a mile on the left as you drive east toward Orange Avenue). You can't miss it, if you watch for the Texaco Station. We tried the Ray's "take-out" Pizza for the first time, this Saturday evening, January 17th, 2009. As longtime Orlando residents, dating back to our move to Florida in the early 1970, we've "tested" many "pizza places". Ray's is one of the best...they make the closest thing you can find to good New York Style Pizza. We were so impressed with the crust, sauce and flavor that we telephoned "Louis" to tell him Ray has a new customer. Give Ray's pizza a "try"....you won't be disappointed. PS. The menu also includes Italian favorites including, to mention a few, different pasta dishes, lasagna, calzones and cannoli's. Prices are very reasonable...Example: Right now on Sundays and Mondays...buy a pizza...any size...and get the second one (same size) for half price.
After returning from Italy, I thought I would never again have the opportunity to enjoy true italian dishes (cue the dramatic music)....but I find myself sinfuly pleased again when discovering this bistro! Although it is a bit out of the way for me (I live at exit 58 off I-4, and it is located at exit 75A)... I will make this trip again... and soon! The pizza (there are over 500 choices) is authentic to Rome. Thin and crisp... the sauce leaves you wanting more! We chose this as an appetizer. Our main dishes, Pasta Fruitti (linguini with a whole lot of seafood) and Gnocchi Fromaggio (can you say "pillows of heaven") were so fantastic that I cannot describe how delicious!!!! I am not going over board on any of this either... I am the pickiest of eaters... and this place has nailed it as far as flavor goes. I will say this... there is serious possibilities with such a place.. and I only wish that the location was better. I hope the owners will look into this.... since it is truly amazing food! SO i urge you to try it out.... and make it a favorite stop.
We found the place be accident. We were looking for a place to eat on our way to dropping some friends at the airport. We know that there are a lot of restaurants along International Drive and decided to make a detour. We were driving along and saw the sign "Thai" and decided to stop. The food was fabulous! We all tried different dishes and they were all wonderful. I am very skeptical in trying new places and unfortunately not very adventerous when it comes to food. I usually order the same things, as I did here. My favorite Thai dish is Spicy Basil and this was by far the best I have had. I don't recall what everyone else ordered, however I know everyone was very satisfied. I did take a taste of my husbands dish and it was to die for! Not something I would have tried on my own. We are actually planning a trip to Orlando this weekend and plan to stop in for an awesome meal.
I can seriously not believe how good this place is. Driving back to downtown from Lowe's my husband and I passed the place and as usual said - "we have to try that place one day"...well today was the day and we were both blown away as was my mother who we got a piece of Flounder. We had gator tail, catfish, flounder, scallops, onion rings, collard greens and fried okra because we figured let's try it all since we are here. There wasn't one thing that was not fabulous. With the exception of a handful of places, Orlando hasn't exactly been a great or even good culinary experience for me so this was a very pleasant surprise. The girl behind the counter was super nice and helpful, it appears to maybe be family run? All I know is it was absolutely delicious and we are already making plans to go back with friends. Let me also mention it was quint and clean inside. Wow!
It's a great little place with good food for low prices. My favorite is a slice of VIP pizza (not on the menu, but worth a try!)But beware: word traveled quickly and Metro Espresso gets really crowded during lunch, especially since the construction started right across the street on Central Blvd. So if you just want to pick up your lunch you do best if you call your order in in advance. Metro's service is simple, but ok for a pizza place. You can sit inside or outside, pick up is available and I think they offer catering for office parties. Only problem: There is not much parking available, just a few meter spots in front of the restaurant and of course the Parkside parkhouse. Still, I never had a bad experience at Metro and I like the diverse clientele; at this place you find everybody from students with dogs over construction workers to business folks in suit and tie!
We just recently moved to Orlando from Texas but are originally from up north and know what NY style Italian is. Broadway was recommended to us because of their calzones, so we gave it a try. No regrets! The small is more than enough for two, the medium is a family meal. Can't even imagine how big a large sould be! to tackle Made by hand and filled with all the good stuff and yes...generous with cheese. Comes with chunky marinara and a garlicky butter. Definetelty not diet food but so yummy! We'd also recommend their greek salad. A huge meal in itself. It may take a little longer to get your order but this is not a prepackaged food chain where they crank out dish after dish. We keep wanting to try other items on the menu but we are hooked on the calzones. They deliver too, which came in handy for a party we had recently. Our guests loved it!
You couldn't possibly ask for more! This place is a gem! Although somewhat hidden I figure that's a good thing or this place would definitely be packed. It's usually jamming with locals who are either dining in or taking food to go. They must have a lot of regulars cuz the staff seems to know most of the customers by name - very cool. Try the daily specials since they offer awesome stuff that's not on the menu like Italian Meatloaf and Pepperoni Pinwheels. The fried calamari is really good and I can honestly say they make the best strombolis and calzones I've ever had. We've had wings there too and usually share the order or we'll never be able to eat our meal. Everything we've had has been great.
