After a few hours of driving following the pick-up of my rental car at MCO, my companion and I stopped to pick up some items in Crystal River, FL. Upon returning to our car (which only had 9K miles on it), we couldn't get the key fob to work (laptop and all other possessions trapped in trunk car on a nearly 100 degree day). When I tried calling the Enterprise office in MCO, I couldn't get an answer or talk to a real person. I finally reached the nearby Enterprise office in Crystal River, FL and was treated poorly and as if they had nothing to do with the Enterprise corporation whatsoever. I and ended up having a three-hour long fiasco involving getting stuck in a thunderstorm, getting picked up and dropped off twice by the people in Crystal River because none of us could get the key fob open to replace the battery after my insistence that they resolve this instead of me having to call roadside assistance. On top of that, dealing with a rude manager at the Crystal River location and paying for a new key fob battery that ended up being the wrong voltage because the guy in Crystal River wasn't paying attention was a fun way to start a vacation. Ultimately, it wasn't the end of the world and thankfully, I was only on vacation and not headed to any sort of important meeting, but it seemed pretty unfortunate that the wrong battery had been in the fob the whole time, apparently. However, upon returning my car to MCO, the manager (Brandon, I believe) was extremely apologetic and discounted my rental as compensation for our troubles. He also explained that the cars come from a variety of sources and that while they do thorough inspections, the batteries on key fobs aren't necessarily checked unless they don't work. So, yes, I would rent a car from the Enterprise office at MCO, but never Crystal River!
I was looking for a rental car for 27 hours, i.e. 3 hrs over a full day. I had checked with Enterprise online, which would've cost me about $90 for a small car, effectively paying for 2 full days. At the airport, I gave L&amp;M a chance, but they were giving me a rate slightly over $100 for two full days. With both agencies, the problem is that while they can pro-rate a few hours of a day, you'll always have to pay a full day's insurance fee even for partial days. Their grace time is only an hour, but I needed 3 hours grace time. So I said that I'd rather go to the competition then because for 2 full days that'd be cheaper for me. The clerk then offered me a deal: I should come back to him after returning the car the next day and he'd help me out if I brought it back within that time I wanted, thereby billing me only for one day. Next day, though, he wasn't there when I asked for him. I though: Oh great, now I'm screwed. But then, another clerk took over for him and when I explained the &quot;deal&quot;, he followed up on it, and today, a few days later, I see that my CC was indeed only billed for the single day, making this a great deal. The car was also fine. A small Nissan with speed control and working AC, I was fully satisfied. I've seen other negative reports about L&M in Orlando, but could not confirm them in my experience with this agency. I guess I talked to the right persons, and was open about my expectations. We made a deal and they remained true to it, as did I.
I'll gladly give 4 stars. On a recent 4-day trip to Orlando, I reserved a Chevy Volt. I have never driven one so I was very excited that Enterprise had one available. But to my disappointment, when I arrived, the car was there, but the keys weren't. Apparently the driver who brought the car up for rental had inadvertently taken the keys with him when he left so there were no keys for me to rent the vehicle with and no other Volts for me to take. :-( Bummer. I was thoroughly disappointed. The customer service manager on duty (don't recall his name) felt my pain and in an attempt to make me happy, told me to pick ANY available vehicle that I could see in the lot (except the Premium Cadillacs, which I understood). So I opted for a Mustang. Even though I wasn't getting the gas mileage and driving experience I was hoping for, the power and sexiness of the Mustang helped to ease the pain in my heart. Lol. I applaud the customer service mgr for giving me that option. He understood that my happiness with Enterprise was paramount and was willing to make the financial sacrifice to keep my business. The Mustang rented at twice the rate that the Volt did but it was a quick trip and I was expected to bring the car back before the weekend so I don't think that Enterprise was missing much by letting me rent the sports car to keep me happy. I would have given 5 stars but I have to remember that they did mess up my original reservation. :-) Go Enterprise!
