Cataracts
A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye. It can be compared to a window that is frosted or yellowed. The amount and pattern of cloudiness within the lens can vary. If the cloudiness is not near the center of the lens, you may not even be aware that a cataract is present.
Cataract Surgery
Often the result of aging, cataracts result from protein buildup in your eye’s lens, which cause your vision to become blurry. To treat this condition, we perform cataract surgery to replace the damaged lens with an intraocular lens and treat other existing vision issues.

Diabetes Care
Diabetic Retinopathy
Anyone with diabetes is at risk for developing diabetic retinopathy, which causes damage to your retinal blood vessels. The disease can cause substantial vision loss or even blindness. With early detection, we can preserve your vision using eye drops, laser procedures, or intravitreal injections.

Ultrasound
Our doctors perform cataract surgery at Olathe Medical Center, as well as other outstanding facilities, which all offer an excellent nursing staff that delivers personalized care. On the day of your surgery, we will administer numbing eye drops and intravenous (IV) sedation so that you remain comfortable. Next, your surgeon will make a small incision on the surface of your cornea and insert a tiny instrument into your eye. This tool uses ultrasound waves to break the cloudy lens into fragments and gently suction it out of the eye. For patients with astigmatism who are not candidates for a toric IOL, the surgeon may also make limbal relaxing incisions. Once your doctor has placed your lens, the incision will be closed. The entire procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes to complete.
