Premarital Agreement
Annulment
A provision in a new will or codicil that contradicts a provision in an old will or codicil revokes the provision in the old will or codicil. Also, in California, unless the will expressly provides otherwise, a final decree of dissolution of marriage or annulment (or a termination of a domestic partnership) automatically revokes gifts in the testator's will to the testator's spouse or domestic partner, and automatically revokes any provision of the will nominating the former spouse or domestic partner as executor.

Mr. Boutris is a principal with the law firm of Vaught & Boutris LLP with offices in Oakland and Walnut Creek. Mr. Boutris' practice emphasizes tax, tax-related bankruptcy matters and estate planning and related litigation. Mr. Boutris represents individuals and businesses with tax controversy matters before all federal and state taxing authorities. He also does extensive tax, bankruptcy and estate planning for his clients to minimize income and estate taxes, protect assets and discharge tax liabilities. In 1980, Mr. Boutris received a double B.A. degree with highest honors from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1985, Mr. Boutris received a joint J.D./M.B.A. degree from U.C. Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law and the Haas School of Business Management.

Trusts
Also referred to as a supplemental needs trust, a special needs trust is designed to provide benefits to a beneficiary who is physically or mentally disabled, or who has a chronic or acquired illness, and is unable to maintain meaningful employment. A special needs trust is designed so as not to disqualify the beneficiary from receiving important forms of government assistance during his or her lifetime.

He has been an adjunct professor at Golden Gate University School of Law, LL.M. Taxation Program since 1994. He is currently teaching courses in both the LL.M. Taxation Program and the LL.M. Estate Planning program at GGU.

Bankruptcy
Mr. Boutris was formerly a member of the Executive Committee of the State Bar of California Tax Section (1996 to 2000) and two-time former Chair of the Santa Clara County Bar Association Tax Section. Mr. Boutris previously chaired the Alameda County Bankruptcy Law Section. Mr. Boutris writes and lectures extensively. Since 2004 Mr. Boutris has taught taxation classes as an adjunct professor in the LLM Program at Golden Gate University. He has published articles in The California Tax Lawyer, Continuing Education of the Bar publications and other prestigious legal journals. Mr. Boutris was selected as a “Super Lawyer” in tax law in Northern California for the past eight consecutive years.
