General Info:
Our Dojo Aikido Institute has been providing classes in Aikido for adults and children since 1970. The school is a member of the Takemusu Aikido Association. Ranking is approved through Aikikai Foundation ( Aikido World Headquarters ) located in Tokyo, Japan. We practice "Iwama Style" Aikido. The founder of Aikido, O'Sensei, spent his later years in Iwama, a rural town 2 hours north of Tokyo by train. It was there that O'Sensei perfected the art of Aikido and built the Aiki Shrine that still stands near the Iwama Dojo. In Iwama, Morihiro Saito was O'Sensei's personal student for 23 years. Saito Shihan, 9th dan, lived and taught in Iwama until his passing in 2002. A number of instructors at Aikido Institute have trained extensively with Saito Shihan both in Japan and at the numerous seminars Saito Shihan conducted throughout the world. Created by our own former uchi-deshi Dave Lewin, the dojo handbook is a great resource for new students. It provides an overview of the history of the dojo as well as details training and practice.

the Nurf bat of all martial arts

Aikido is the nurf bat of all the martial arts...not to belittle it but you spend all the time rolling and slapping the floor and smacking it as you land as you let your partner in training throw you to the floor. i dare you to do that as hard as you can on the cement, gravel asphalt etc..... and try not breaking your wrist elbow or shoulder. now try that as someone is punching you in the face. try to wrist lock someone as they are kicking you in the groin and or knee with a heavy shoe on.. I think not! being cooperative in training is one thing but not challenging the student to really push themselves in a full power completely dynamic situation as a fight on the street will not work. also the wholesome effects that this training gives you mentally is the complete opposite of a reality based fighting system is about. it might work on some people but against a street thug or any average criminal in my opinion aikido will probably get you killed. I'm sure the instructors at this school are OK but please use your common sense on what reality and fiction are........
