I've looked at dozens of tanning salons and spas in Chicago through their websites, via word of mouth and by visiting a few. Call me a nervous first-timer! I would never choose to tan except that I know in a couple weeks I'll be outdoors for an extended period of time and I know I'd burn quite badly without a bit of a base tan first. Escape was a wonderful first time experience. The prices are cheap, the staff is knowledgeable, courteous and helpful (no hard sells on packages or products). The storefront was clean, comfortable and felt more upscale than the price list would have led me to believe. The level 1 bed I used (the kind where you lay down) was perfectly clean and sanitized. When I wanted my tanning time adjusted (for fear of burning) the employee cheerfully helped me pick a time I was comfortable with. Plenty of street parking too. I'm going back in a few days (I purchased a 3-tan package good for one week-- for only $12!) and might go back in the future for a spray tan since I'm not a real UV Ray tanning kind of gal. I've spray tanned before too, at LA tan in Lakeview/boystown, which wasn't nearly as courteous or clean, but I'd go back to Escape because of the pleasant experience and the fact they took time to explain why they advertise that their spray tans last 7-10 days vs. the normal 5-7 days I normally see advertised at tanning salons. Apparently you're not supposed to use bar soap in the shower afterwards (shower gel instead) because it shortens the life of a spray tan and that they have a different formula. While I've yet to try theirs to vouch for it, the fact that they took the time to explain things and could articulate the process clearly unlike other places that seemed to employ folks without a lot of communication/cognitive skills, makes me optimistic.
Just joined this club as a multi-branch member. Very dissatisfied. It's an okay ""do-it-yourself"" gym, but for the price I'd investigate other opti…
Upon moving to Edgewater, one of my top priorities, among many, was to find a good tanning salon. I have lived in quite a few different areas over the years, and unfortunately, finding a good tanning salon is a lot harder than one would think! Sometimes the salon is not as clean as you would expect, or the bulbs in the beds are rarely changed, or the hours are hard to catch, and/or the people working in the salon are just plain rude. Well, after scouting out several different salons in the nearby neighborhoods, I honestly, finally found, the best tanning salon with the best staff that I have ever been to! A Better Tan is clean, the hours are relaxed, I am achieving great color from the beds and the booths, and even more importantly, I have received great knowledge and education about my skin and about tanning from the wonderful and energetic guys that run this salon! I want to give a special thanks to James and David for always making my visits to the salon a relaxing and enjoyable one! Go visit these guys, you won't regret it!!!
