I've given this place a couple of tries in the past week (along with in the past). I ordered orange chicken and mu shu vegetable.
The orange chicken came with absolutely no vegetables and was served with fried rice which was just that (no veg or egg), I forgot to substitute white rice so that was my fault. [All other Chinese places I've ordered from have included some sort of vegetable with dishes that don't have veg IN them (most of the time broccoli).] There WAS a normal amount of meat, which tasted OK. This cost was over $14 (including tax) which I believe is over-charging for what I got.(3/5)
Because that^ didn't come with any sort of vegetable I decided to give the mu shu veg a chance, because that is ALL vegetable. I ordered this last night and took it home. This tastes like pure salt. I am assuming it's MSG (because a few people have told me they use A LOT of MSG - and I've seen the bags in the dumpster to prove it). It could have just been regular salt, I don't know how to spot MSG. (1/5)
I am going to have to rinse the veggies (literally) because the saltiness is so great that it sort of burns my taste buds, not painful-burning but kind of like when you eat too many salt and vinegar chips.. So you get the idea. I am not exaggerating. It came with "Mandarin pancakes" as advertised. (The mu shu veg was almost $10 including tax - which is a fair price). **The menu online says mu shi, but the new menu they have says mu shu, which is why I've been saying mu shu - if it matters.
Luckily I have the ingredients in my house for mu shu so I can flavour the veg again and have a dish where I can taste the vegetables and sauce.
This may have been a one-off (as far as the mu shu is concerned) but I won't be ordering there again to find out.
Some acquaintances I have like the Panda Garden, but they get french fries and chicken fingers there and I don't think their taste buds have been outside New England, or possibly even the valley.
If you want some sort of vegetable, or something you can taste, go to any of the other Chinese places. Pei King is right behind the mall where the Panda Garden is situated (you could walk there in 2 minutes, maybe less, from Panda Garden's doors), China Chef is more northern North Conway next to 7/11. Fryeburg, ME has the Long River.
Or maybe get some Indian, or Tai.
Always remember to order without MSG if you don't want it added, but some places use pre-made sauces which have MSG in them already so that can't be helped uness you know and order something else.
