I would give this place negative stars if I could. My elderly dog passed away this summer and this hospital has refused to remove me from their email and postal mailing list. This was last fall and since that time I have told them no less than 3 times not to contact me again as my dog had passed, and I don't need overdue health reminder for my dog who has passed.
Newton Animal Hospital continues to send me overdue health reminders for my deceased dog. They will not stop. I email and tell them to, they acknowledge and then continue to do as they please. I have threatened legal action, complaints to the city, the BBB, chamber of commerce, the AVM. They will not stop. DO NOT TALE YOUR ANIMALS HERE. When your animals have passed, this horrible place not only emotionally tortures you with overdue health reminders, still trying to get money out of you when your pet is deceased, and refusal to stop contacting you. STAY FAR AWAY.

I have a long haired cat that was recently groomed at the clinic. The options for grooming were either a brushing or a lion cut. If I merely wanted her brushed I would have done that myself so I opted for a lion cut that cost me $74 and made my cat look terrible. Not only that but the groomer also cut some of her whiskers on the right side of her face (I didn't notice this til I got home)!! The groomer should have more than two options for grooming cats because the lion cut is certainly not for any cat and my cat looks terrible. I will not get my cat groomed at this place again because of both the expensive cost (it took them less than an hour..an it showed) and the outcome.

Where I live they have a Veterinary clinic its so dirty smells people are not friendly at all.

my dog got her shots in the same spot the next day she woke up with a hug lump every went back again I been taking my dog to Newton they so clean very nice cares about animals, My dog sunshine was very small loving dog one day she stopped eating drinking water sleeping all day the 3 day her back legs would give up still not eating any way after 4 days took her to NJ . V. Hospital

took her blood found cancer she never has a bump they were nice give me extra blanket for my dog we had to put her sleep with the angels soon I will be getting her ashes I would bury my dog in the yard other animals will eat her I love this place find them to be reasonable in price, you have a chance if you feel the cost is too much my dog was worth the money why she hardly got sick so add up all the years you never took your dog for a illness Newton Animal Hospital bless you all. have other dog they were fantastic only cost me $500.00 the whole year because she was a puppy do you know how much that would have cost you for every shot or appointment is was included. Now my sunshine is resting in peace the song you are my sunshine will always be in my thoughts I give her a good life

horrible experiance...owner trains staff to bilk customers out of every nickle and dime before they even look at pet. BEWARE...they take pet in room without you and come out with exorbitant estimate. I know of two people who had worked there and left because of their uncaring sadistic practices. i've heard horror stories firsthand. ..They're worse than some puppy mills.

will never go back my dog was hit by a car no internal bleeding just a very bad broken leg set him on the table set up an IV made us sit in the waiting room for a long time to the come to us and say this is what we need to do it will cost$ 3562.90( at that price we were considering putting the dog down) for them to take xrays, pain meds one night stay in the there icu the iv and for his leg to be put in a cast. oh also they dont do payments they want half when you walk in and the other half when you are dune but they had no problem trying to get us to open a pet medical credit card turns out they dont even start until you put half of the payment down and the rest in full at pick up (was able to talk them down but not much) they then told me they would need a dogie orthopedic surgent to rebuild his leg and would need to spend the next week there the accident occurring on a Sunday night and it being the only 24/7 animal hospital had no choice. on Monday morning i called my vet Sam castamore in Augusta right up the road from this animal hospital saw him he spent over an hour just talking to us giving us his recommendations he recast-ed my dogs leg because it turns out the hospital used a cast that was to small for my dog and wasn't really helping i was able to take my dog home on Monday thanks to sam as i was getting ready to walk out it ended up costing 300 dollars and he said i can pay him the next time i come in only wish this didn't happen on a sunday will never return to the Newton Veterinary Hospital

Thanks to the amazing staff at this emergency clinic, my dog is alive today. My sighthound bloated and his stomach twisted 360 degrees. His spleen was twisted and needed to be removed too. I live a half hour away and called ahead to tell them I was coming in with a confirmed bloat case. They had the operating room ready when we carried him in the door. They took him from our arms, right to the operating table. My dog didn't have minutes to spare and they did everything they needed to do. Their professionalism, skill, care and speed at treating my dog is the reason he survived. I'm forever grateful to them for saving my best friend.

I completely disagree with anyone who says this place is driven by money. I have been a loyal client for 15 years, way before they had the big office. They recently introduced a yearly fee that includes all well care for your dog. It includes many unlimited free services. I have this for my 3 dogs. We have and 6 surgeries done at the facility and they were all done incredibly well. We had a dog get ill and need to be put down this year and they were amazing during the process. We had our two Minpin puppies spayed with laser surgery and they were home the same day. I drive over 45 minutes to get there (scary when there is an emergency but worth it) and there is a vets office right on the street where I live. Bottom line is owning a pet is a privilege, you don't have to have pets! I wish more people took into consideration the costs of owning a pet, then there would be far less abandoned pets! Dr. Bladek & Dr. Schnieder are AMAZING I also find all the techs very knowledgeable and helpful but most of all EVERYONE there is extremely caring! You can't fake that!

I was at this vet today for the first time with my Shiapoo Mandy. We used the emergency line at 6am this morning. Mandy had fallen down a flight of stairs. The staf advised me that it was ok to bring her in asap. They told me it would be $108 wich at first i thought was high but it didnt seem I had a choice cosidering the next available vet was down the shore. So when we got there they imediatly brought her in the back and took all of her info. A short while later the vet came out stating that Mandy had no broken bones and that she seems to have just sprained her leg. The assistant went over an estimate that was too high for me. They allowed me to sign up for credit careing that covered the whole thing. They gave me 6mo no interest too. :) So when Mandy came out she had a pink bandage with hearts on it and seemed to be happy after the pain medication. I was so pleased with all the staff and how they cared for Mandy and my wife and I. I will be changing to this vet asap !

If I had the ability to provid...

If I had the ability to provide this facility with less than one star- that is definitely what I would do. My cat is currently undergoing treatment at this facility. I agree that there are necessarily extra charges associated with emergency care- we took our cat on Christmas night- however the way the charges are presented is completely unprofessional. I dropped off my cat with a life threatening condition and had no choice but to wait as they prepared my 'estimate.' The estimate contains a low figure as well as a high figure. My initial low figure was approx. 2200 and my high figure was approx 2900. After reviewing this estimate I asked for options stating I wanted to make the right decision but this was expensive for us. Another tech came into the room and crossed off six or seven line items from the original estimate stating those items weren't really necessary. This left me with a low figure of 1100 and a high of 1700- a very large difference from the original. It made me contemplate how I would have just paid the original estimate amounts had I not asked. The updates we were given daily regarding our pet's status were really good but I still could not shake that money is the motivating factor for this animal hospital. Most of the staff are courteous and seem professional but I would honestly say that if you can go elsewhere- definitely do. You'll save money and have peace of mind.

I just went to this vet recently & had a great experience! I used their emergency services & was pleasantly surprised. My dog Rascal is a cranky old man & got into a scuffle with a groundhog that was in our yard over the weekend. The groundhog had bit him in the face a few times and of course my first thought was rabies!!! I called and spoke to one of the receptionists and she advised me to bring Rascal in ASAP for a rabies booster. We rushed him there and they took excellent care of him. Even though he is not the nicest boy in the world they took extra time with a soft muzzle to clean the wounds around his mouth and chin. I think he felt very comfortable with the vet techs because he was hardly shaking and didn’t try to snap at all. You can always tell when people truly enjoy their job and it showed. I could go on forever about the exceptional care Rascal and our family got over the weekend at Newton veterinary Hospital. I strongly recommend you try their emergency care next time you are in need,

Outstanding care

My cat Sasha received outstanding care during her extended stay and surgery at Newton Veterinary Hospital. Her positive reaction to the doctors and vet techs convinced me to make her a permanent patient! Her reaction after her surgery tells me the decision was right. After her last routine checkup at her prior vet's, she went into hiding for a day and a half. When I brought her home from Newton Veterinary Hospital after she had been through tests, surgery and her first night away from home since coming to live with me, she hid but resurfaced in less than 30 minutes. Her behavior is a testament to the calm and caring treatment she has received. I highly recommend Newton Veterinary Hospital.

Totally Disagree

I totally disagree with the other reviews - we had both of our cats treated at Newton Veterinary Hospital up and until their last days. We have two dogs now and have been taking them there since the day we got them. They are always friendly and welcoming and the staff is very honest and forward. I would never say that money came first - our animals are always treated as part of our family at home and they treat them the same at Newton Vet. I have heard from others that money is a problem there also but we have never thought that their prices were way above anyone else - and in my eyes are you looking for a bargain for your animal or quality care? I guess it's a matter of choice.

These people speak the truth

The other two posters who reviewed are 100% correct. I have been a loyal patient of theirs for almost 20 yrs. and money first is their motto ever since they built the hospital. I understand that there are deadbeats out there, but I never gave them any reason to put me into that category. Their filing system needs work as sometimes there are words on a file that give the patient a bad or misconceived reputation regarding their credit status. I was told they are reusing old files from other patients when I questioned this. Hey, clerical staff, ever hear of White-Out? You certainly can afford a bottle for what you charge. The only doctor over there that is worth his weight in gold is Dr. Bladek. His level of care(the quality of the care there was never an issue) and compassion towards my animals offsetted the high cost of visits, so I scraped up the money and paid the bill. But after what happened the other day to me, I have to consider going elsewhere. If this man went out on his own, I am sure a very large percentage if not all of his patients would follow. It is truly sad to see that this once kind and caring operation has turned sterile and cold towards their loyal patients over money. So for those of you who live hand to mouth and have pets, consider another option.

Go elsewhere if you care about your pet.

Hospital only cares about making money. I was going there for three years and found that their "great facility" is all window dressing. Staff has become less and less knowledgeable and doctors are more concerned with getting you to sign your estimate than caring for your pet. Makes me laugh everytime I drive by and read what "services" they are pushing today. Save yourself some money and find a local vet for routine appointments (vaccines, ear cleaning, etc.) and ask for a recommendation for a specialist or real emergency hospital. Driving a little further could save your pet's life.

CARE WAS NOT FIRST

We had been clients at Newton Animal Hosp. for 2 yrs . We have 2/cats 1/dog 1/exotic bird . The qaulity of care with compation has deteriorated over time. Its become more about the dollar . My most recent visit ended in an eye opening exsperience . Our dog had the yearly check up and all her shots , which was 4 shots . After returning home , with in a couple of hours the dog was having a reaction . We called them and with no explainations or common desciption of reactions , They said if your not liking what you see bring her back or what it out . Needless to say we took her back . But we had to carry the dog ,she was unable walk and was disoriented . We arrived and the first thing asked was to sign an emergency release for treatment and fees . Mind you she had just left there. I was refusing to sign for additional fees , and was told they wouldnt touch her unless i did . This escaladed in argument . How about the dog first , which im standing there with in my arms. So we said fine , after they called the Police . After we signed the paper , the girl behind the counter says that will be $ 105.00 . Clock is still ticking. Finally , the tech said ok lets get the dog on the table . 20 minutes later still noboby examined her . The police arrive , small discussion about the situation , and they leave. 5 more minutes , still nobody examines the dog . They came in tried to put a muzzle on the dog she was stressing out. The tech went to find someone to help , gone for about 5 minutes , so my son went and asked whats going on . They went looking for the tech , returned and said you have to wait while get somone to put the muzzle on .After 5 more minutes we left and took her to another vet . WE ARE SO DONE WITH THESE PEOPLE .
