National Golf Links of America

This is where golf architects go to be inspired. Maybe because National Golf Links of America models many of their holes after famous ones from all over the world. Among them are the Road Hole and Eden from St. Andrews, Alps from Prestwick, Redan from North Berwick and Sahara from Sandwich. But don't just waltz up to the front door and ask to play -- they're very much a private club.

National Golf Links of America biggest claim to fame is hosting the first Walker Cup in 1922 (remember that?). Noteworthy given they'll reprise their role September 6-8, 2013, when they host the event again.
