A Sip of New Chelsea-Swank
Just the Pretty: Don't judge the Eventi by its arguably modern and stark exterior, as the interior is a sophisticated example of the new Chelsea-swank: part flashback to early 20 Century Manhattan, part flashforward to eclectic modernism. And upping the modernesque for oenophiles, the Eventi's restaurant, Bar Basque, offers an automatic wine-dispenser with 32 vintages, so patrons can pour tasting sizes or full glasses at their vino whim. Isn't it great to live in an era with the "wine automat"?
Suite, Suite Design: Dark walls, rich wood, blue furniture, retro carpet... These are decor elements that often challenge the design-timid, but they all come together quite excellently in the hotel's Eventi Suite (pictured above and left). The swank one-bedroom pad coddles hipsters with a plush living room, fully stocked bar, dining room, spa bathroom with Jacuzzi, and -- a definite rarity in Manhattan -- a private 850-square-foot terrace perfect for clink-clinking five o'clock martinis. Love of light and air continues in the master bedroom, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a private balcony.
