Whiteface Lodge - Lake Placid, NY

Great American ski resorts and New York don't traditionally occupy the same sentence, but this longtime rustic gem in the heart of the Adirondacks is just a short 15-20 minute drive from the slopes at Whiteface Mountain. Whiteface Lodge is the site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics -- always a good sign when it comes to snow play. And for apres ski? There's a surround-sound movie theater on-site, a 10-pin bowling alley and a 5,800-square-foot-spa. No shortage of fun.

Mountain Stats: The Whiteface Lodge is the top of the Northeast food chain when it comes to winter sports. It has 6 trails (a third of which are rated for expert skiers), 11 lifts including a gondola, terrain parks and it all makes for what they call "adrenaline-pumping glades skiing."
