Introducing Xiao Liwu


Nov. 13, 2012: Following the Chinese tradition of naming the giant panda after it is 100 days old, the vibrant 9.2-pounder finally gets his official moniker: Xiao Liwu (pronounced "sshyaoww-lee-woo"), which means "Little Gift. The name was chosen from more than 7,000 suggested by the public. After the options were narrowed down to six, nearly 35,000 votes were cast to decide on the name. The explanation that persuaded voters? "This cub is such a precious little gift to our world."
