Edible Gardens

Whether you're First Lady Michelle Obama or just someone who desires to know where all their food comes from, millions of Americans have taken to planting edible gardens in their very own backyards to harvest fresh, local, affordable fruits and vegetables. This beautiful and practical project by Conte & Conte landscape architects included adding raised vegetable beds to a charming Connecticut estate, where one family can now cultivate their own meals. In the off-season, before it's warm enough to grow veggies, the planters "do double duty showcasing a splash of early color with a mix of varied height tulips and a ribbon of grape hyacinth" (pictured left). Stunning.
