Flower Power Couples: Picking the Perfect Bouquet
Valentine's Day is a $20 billion (billion with a b!) business in America. Nearly $2 billion of that is spent on flowers, according to the National Retail Federation. You'd think since V-Day comes around every year, we'd have this perfect-bouquet thing down. But aside from the obvious dozen roses, most of us (women included) are pretty clueless when it comes to arranging a unique presentation that says you really put some thought into this love thing.
And what about etiquette: Can you give a dozen long-stems to your mom and your spouse? Does it still count if you get your buds from Trader Joe's? So many questions... so many opportunities to land in the doghouse. Here's where your local florist can help. Meredith Young of Au Courant Florals in Jackson, Miss., says, "I don't think there any rules when giving flowers! It's all about fun color combinations and beautiful varieties of flowers. Think texture and color!"
To help make this Valentine's a little easier on everyone, we conferred with florists across the nation to get their advice on picking the perfect petals, bouquets and other bursts of living color for the specific object of your affection.
