Best Things to Cook for Thanksgiving Other Than Turkey
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year. It's about gratitude and sharing time with family. It's about our cultural demonstrations of collective thanks, expressed by a meal...followed by football. The Thanksgiving turkey has come to symbolize the day, and I always make one because I love the sandwiches and the leftovers turned into sandwiches, soups, pot pies and my son's favorite, Turkey Tetrazzini.
But, and it's a big BUT, our meals became way more interesting when I adapted a different approach. Instead of one big turkey, I began doing a smaller bird and a second main course, something appropriate, often regional, typically classic and always delicious. Think about adding some of these to your Thanksgiving repertoire or take a big risk with Uncle Bill and Aunt Betty by abandoning the turkey entirely. As always, there are tons of holiday recipes, conventional and otherwise, including many of the ones below on www.andrewzimmern.com.
