New Breed for 2013: Russell Terrier
One of two new breeds competing at Westminster in 2013, the Russell terrier is the "ultimate working earth terrier," according to the American Kennel Club. That's because they're small (only 10-12 inches tall) and have a uniquely oval-shaped, compressible chest. Translation: They can hunt underground, able to squeeze themselves into tight spaces and tunnels.
Breed eligibility for the long-running Super Bowl of dog shows is determined by The American Kennel Club based on number and geographic distribution in the U.S., and an active breed parent club.
