We flew into Newport News on a scheduled flight arriving near 2:30 pm on a Sunday.. The National desk was closed. The Enterprise desk was open and processing the National rentals. They were swamped. They apologized profusely but there was a wait of about 20 minutes just to get to the desk. The check-in went smoothly. Picking up the car was no problem. There could be a little more explanation of the return process.

I arrived about 45 minutes early to pick up my rental car. When I arrived, they did not have any of the cars available in my class, so they gave me a free upgrade to a luxury sedan. I got to drive in style in a brand new Chrysler 300, with only 8,000 miles on it. It was a very luxurious drive. I had a great trip! Thanks, National!
The 2016 had a strong scent of smoke. Additionally, The return date and time scheduled (Sat, 4:00 p.m.) was when the facility was closed (they close at noon on Sat). The agent should have made a special point of warning me of this situation and instructing me where to put the keys.
