Tonalli opened as a neighborhood breath of fresh air. It has no competetion in it class.
I have had many meals there including my birthday party but I am not going to eat there or order take out again.
I walked my 83 year old stir crazy mother with Parkinson's disease the 4 four blocks down the street, she got dressed up and excited not to be eating my cooking. We were not just turned away for a private party but it was handled as if we shouldn't come back. My mother orders delivery occasionally and likes the food very much. We didnt plan this outing but I got out of work early and we made a heroic effort with the curb cutouts. We found a closed for private party sign on the door.
There are many ways to handle previously satisfied and clearly future customers but to say I should have known they were closed because there was a sign on the door or to not offer a meal at the front "bar" tables to a disabled little old lady was just bad customer relations. We were made to feel that as long as there is a private party the soon we departed their doorway the better.
