Great Service, Simple & Delicious Food, A Must-Try on the UES

Went here late last night with a friend... the waitstaff never once rushed us and we were the last table in the restaurant. Although we only ordered soups, appetizers and dim sum, the experience made me only more anxious to try the main dishes next time I'm here. Take the fried dumplings over the (steamed) pork shumai, even though both are great. Our waiter recommended a large bowl of spicy noodle soup as per my friend's requests and it was incredible. The cold sesame noodles were ...view morea bit of a twist on the standard cold sesame noodles, but are also delicious and highly recommended. I will certainly be going back here to try some more of their great food. Good food combined with great service is an excellent combination in my book.view less

Just Disgusting

Perhaps some of the worst Chinese I have ever tried. What is up with all the glowing reviews, especially on menupages (the most inaccurate rating site around). The dumplings were tasteless. The green tea chicken was bland beyond belief as were the prawns in chili sauce. Do not believe the hype. Stay away from this one. You will be sorry if you don't.

Chinese on the UES? Absolutely!

I used to always say that if I wanted Chinese food I would just go to Chinatown, but after eating here, I will have to reconsider. The food was fresh and prepared perfectly! The hot and sour soup, which is vegetarian, had the right amount of hot & sourness to it. I also ordered the ""diet"" meal which allowed me to customize a dish. It allowed me to choose 4 veggies- I chose mushrooms, bean sprouts, bok choy, and zuchini- and 1 meat- which I chose chicken. You also get your choice...view more of sauce - me- garlic sauce. The ingredients were steamed w/ the sauce served on the side. I'm generally not too picky when it comes to Chinese food, but the chicken was juicy and tender and the veggies weren't over steamed. The sauce was the icing on the cake since it was great! Definitely a great find!view less

Large party, service and food unbelieveable. Shanghai relatives rated it 11/10

Tom, the manager, was unbelieveable. We had our rehearsal dinner here, red carpet treatment all the way through. Chef was amazing. Very unique dishes, every single one splendid. Chinese relatives, some from Shanghai, others from HK, gave the food 11/10. Definitely worth the price.

New Chef - Totally different Experience

This old Evergreen Shanghai has been transformed into a new, WONDERFUL restaurant on the upper Eastside. Recently reopened under the name of SHANGHAI PALACE, they now have a remarkable new chef (they say he is a 4-star chef in Shanghai). Their menu is more upscale than the typical neighborhood Chinese and the dishes taste and feel far more authentic, fresh and delicious. It is definately NOT your hum-drum typical Chinese restaurant experience. Try the shredded turnip cake or juicy ...view morepork/crab dumplings dim sum. Do NOT miss their version of Shanghai Wonton and Shanghai Hot & Sour Soups!!! Their lobster grand marnier and their lamb shanghai are outstanding. Even their beef lo-mein tasted fresh and delicious. Do NOT expect usual selections like General Tso's Chicken - menu leans toward Shanghai specialities. The staff is courteous and helpful as well. The better food translates into somewhat higher pricing but well worth it.view less
