I have never found myself after a month or two not in a panic to get my hair done. It has been two and half months since I have seen Mary for my highlights and they have grown out in a way that is so natural and pretty. Mary had talked to me before hand and I made it clear I am broke and cant make it to the salon that much, instead of ignoring me and making so I would have to come back every month, Mary gave me the most natural highlights ever, you cant even really tell its been so long since I have seen her!! Its nice to have someone care more about the person than the sale! I will defiantly become of regular here.

    Awesome Hair Cut!

    Provided by

Moving to the city and trying to find someone you can trust to cut your hair is HARD. Tried twice at one place and wasn't willing to go for 3 (strikes your out). Know of Sam Brocato's reputation and checked it out. LEAH rocks and I and thrilled with my haircut. Not only a haircut but tons of ideas on how to wear it different ways. I couldn't be more thrilled. That and the staff there is very professional and the salon has cool too. Thank you! Thank you!

After a botched haircut by a stylist that didn't listen, I found a professional in Krista. Krista listens and does exactly what you want. I found my salon.

    Brilliant

I got my hair cut and colored at this salon a few weeks ago and I have to say it was the best hair dressing experience I've ever had. I moved to New York from Ireland in May and was dreading the mammoth task of finding a colorist and stylist that I was going to be happy with. I stumbled upon the Sam Brocato salon after purchasing a Groupon voucher and reading several reviews. It did not disappoint. The colorist was Mary and the stylist Krista. Both were absolutely outstanding. I've never been happier walking out of a salon in my life. Mary is a magician. She gave me the exact color that I wanted. My hair is dyed blonde and in all the years I've had it colored I've usually found it either too blonde or too dark, never just right or what I asked for. She managed to tone down all the brassiness caused by the sun and gave my highlights a natural color that for once matched my face. And all in record time. Krista is another genius. My hair is long, straight and boring. I usually just stick to getting the ends trimmed after several failed attempts at different layered styles over the years. Without losing too much off the end she managed to create a fantastic shape all around that is so flattering and easy to keep. I was absolutely delighted. An amazing blow out too. I would recommend this salon in a heart beat. Can't wait to go back.

    Finally 2 years later

    Provided by

After 2 years of looking a decent place to cut my hair, I found the place. I was sad and frustrated, all those fancy salons and they don't know how to cut fine, thing straight hair. At Sam Brocato Salon, I found Chelsea Turner, SHE IS ABSOLUTELY SWEET, and took the time to understand what is going on with me in regard to my hair. I will be back and recommend people for sure. And I forgot to mentioned the price is very reasonable.

    best color ever

I have been on the search for a good colorist for years!! I finally hit the jackpot when my friend recommended I go to Mary. I get hightlights and they are exactly what I explained to her. She is young, and hip but down to earth like a normal person ( I hate when stylist have a ""i'm better than you attitude"") The whole staff was nice and the salon is huge for soho standards. All and all great experiance!!!!

Great and generous place for outstanding haircut

    Provided by

This is my third time at the salon. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I am using Lisa, who is a master stylist. In addition to giving a fabulous cut, she listens to what you want. In addition, there are no airs here. The stylist does the wash, the cut, and the blowout. It's a beautiful place, with plenty of privacy, yet you don't feel isolated. Highly recommended.

    Curl Interrupted

    Provided by

First off, the price is half of all the other treatments. The salon was great, and I was lucky enough to have the owner, Sam Brocato, assist in on the treatment. The treatment, Curl Interrupted, is more of a super conditioning treatment with a relaxer. I just washed my hair today, and it is much less frizzy. Sam was fairly conservative on the treatment. He told the stylist to not treat the top half of my hair since I have hi-lites. He was very cautious in using the treatment on the top half of my hair, since he thought it would cause breakage . So he conditioned the top part and applied the full treatment to the bottom half. As far as what I can tell with my hair, it does seem much softer. I washed my hair, and it tried differently. Compared to other treatments, I think Curl Interrupted is less aggressive than the Japanese and the Brazilian. I still have wave but my hair does not look like a mushroom cloud.\r I would say that this is a great conditioning treatment that relaxes the curl, but does not make the hair straight. I like the wave in my hair, so I will probably go back. With the treatment, the salon also gives for free the shampoo, conditioner, and moisture treatment.

    For the love of Joy!

    Provided by

I recently discovered Joy La Rosa at the Sam Brocato Salon when desperately seeking a chic, economically priced haircut. A coworker recommended me to Joy, whose cuts are pro-rated as she's new in town and thus considered ""new talent"" at this up and coming salon to the stars. What a steal! She gave my fine, thinning, wavy hair the perfect vintage-inspired bob. She cut my bangs according to the specific slope of my scalp- the same scalp she gave an exquisite massage to during my wash. In the past, I'd been texturized (aka: thinned!) to death by various fancy-pants stylists in the city. Finally I have the body, thickness and real sass that I want. I have now gone to Joy for two cuts and two blow outs (also really fierce!). I liked her so much I sent my boyfriend. It was as though Joy was sending me a love letter through my man's hair- the perfect pseudo-hipster meets Mad Men cut. He, in turn, sent his good buddy, who now sports a wholly unique Joy-devised John Lennon-esque crop. She really listens to what you want and gets a sense of your personal style before pulling out the sheers. After seeing her work on many a friend's head, I wholeheartedly put my faith in Joy. Go now while she's still inexpensive; her cuts are truly priceless!

    SUPER Stylist

    Provided by

DOPE! I love this hair salon. It has a super laid back comfortable vibe, where you can still expect to receive all of the special treatment a Soho salon would offer. All the fun without the pretense. My FAVORITE thing about this place is my crazy talented stylist - Joy. If you have fine hair - she's your girl. She cuts extra volume into your hair - it's sort of a miracle. My hair feels fuller - like there is somehow more of it now. I get bounce and movement too, which is pretty amazing for fine/limp hair. She isn't scared to do something fun, which has led to some of my most flattering cuts. She recently cut a seriously heavy bang on me....I am getting compliments from every direction. People adore it. That's Joy - she creates miracles! They're at a bargain price too. A cut with her is only $55....um whaaaa! She gives you the hair you would pay any amount for. Gotta check her out!

    great, great haircut!

Just got a cut with Leah - the best cut ever. Highly recommend her. She is highly professional, gives you great advice, knows what she is doing, is fast and a pleasant person - what can I say more? Oh yes, that the cut was the least expensive I had in years... Loved the whole experience. This is definitely going to be my salon in NYC.

    not pretentious

found salon from a friend and loved the experiance. I got a cut with sara and she was so sweet and helped me figure out what would work best with me and my crazy lifestyle , and the summer weather. I had my highlights done with mary and she gave me the best highlights I have ever had I get compliments daily! She was also really nice and fun as well. All and all great experiance, one small downfall is they are going through rennovations so the bathhroom is a little unfinished and some of the floors, but they assured me that they will be done soon.

    great place!!

    Provided by

Heard about this place through the grapevine and thought I'd give it a shot. I had a great haircut with Sarah- she listened and gave me just what I was looking for- which hasn't been my experience at other (some very notable high end) salons in the area. Had such a great experience that I thought I'd come back for a glaze and a few highlights with Mary- again, she also listened to what I was looking for and came up with a color that was perfect- me only better. I've never gotten so many compliments! Great colorist, fun personality!

    Leah

    Provided by

Went to Sam Brocato after I came across the salon on Citysearch while looking for a GOOD, inexpensive haircut. I booked ""new talent"" at Sam Brocato and got a fantastic haircut with Leah! Two weeks later and the long layers are growing out perfectly - just what I was looking for. Leah has a new dedicated client with me! On top of that, the salon is large, clean, and has a great vibe all around.

    funny and friendly

I went to the salon by chance after a horrible color mishap at a nearby salon :/ . I went to Mary and she handled my horrible hair with grace and didnt make the fact that my ""highlights"" , were less than perfect. She worked wonders and I have had so many compliments since!! And she has a funny quirky flavor to her!!

    Award winning

    Provided by

Fairly new to NY from Boston, I had been trying to find just the right salon- a place I could get a haircut that had a relaxing and comfortable environment with excellent talent, but somewhere below the $300 dollar price point.\r \r After asking several friends, and randomly searching for hair salons in the downtown area, I came across the 2010 NY Magazine's review of this salon and thought I'd give it a go...and it was an EXCELLENT FIND.\r \r Cool space, not pretentious or too over the top as I've experienced in Boston and NY. Friendly staff to greet and assist you to a changing facility and coat area- also salon offers a wide array of refreshments , and the pre-wash massage is great!\r \r Jiwon was excellent. I am a busy individual and don't have the time or patience to try anything trendy, short or cutting edge (However- I know many of the stylists here are cable of executing those types of cuts, which almost does make me want to try something new!) \r \r Jiwon still listened to my wishes and had me leaving the salon with my long hair in tact, but in much better shape. The cut left my hair much more polished and full of life, which is often hard to achieve when your hair is long. She was not pushy with her own agenda and I will definitely come back to her in the future. I would even trust her to cut my hair if I did try something radically different. I was amazed at her precision and expertise.\r \r Overall an A experience and I look forward to coming back in the future.

    Amazing Experience...and products!!

    Provided by

I used a groupon to go here and I think its the best groupon success story I have! I made an appointment with Lisa who is just amazing. She talked to me in length about my hair and how I wear it and what I'm looking for...we then proceeded to get my hair washed which in itself was a great experience. My haircut came out looking fabulous! I didnt even get anything too edgy or drastic...but all my friends were shocked at how good my hair looked. Lisa taught me how to style my hair and then showed me a few products that they sell that could work for me. I'm very wary about buying hair products because I dont feel they do what they should. She gave me a few samples and OH MY GOD these products are mind blowing! Apparantly Sam Brocato himself creates these products and they are truely the best products ive ever tried. Ask about the hair clay...you wont regret it! and if you have curly or wavy hair, use their curl karma shampoo/conditioner/styling cream. I swear by it. I have literally hooked all of my friends onto this salon...or at least onto their products. Buying that Groupon was the best thing I ever did! lol

    GREAT Salon in NYC!

    Provided by

I just moved from California and have yet to find a New York salon to get my hair done. I initially went to the Salon because there was a Groupon and I thought I'd check it out for the price, but I went and I loved the whole experience. The guy at the check-in desk was super nice and I loved Sarah who did my hair. She spent a good amount of time chatting with me about what I wanted and was willing to go super edgy if I wanted but I couldn't bring myself to do it so we agreed on a slightly less wild 'do and the end result made me really happy. She even gave me tips on how to do my hair myself at home and wasn't pushy about selling any products and I am sure that I'll be coming here again. They offer refreshments, and the space despite going through renovations is still perfectly nice and it's definitely a find.
