Red is a wonderful place to have your evening meals. As a critic, i've been hearing great news about their famous margaritas and outstanding mexican food as well, so I couldn't help but to travel all the way down from Conneticut just to observe what they really have to offer.\r \r It was thursday April the 15th around 3pm. I entered RED for the first time and I was pleasantly greeted by their host ( about 5'6-5'7, very long straight hair.very well and neatly dressed, professional/casual attire I must say), she had the most flattering smile that would just make you say YES I would like a table. She gave me the best seat in the house "" A booth "". I really like the atmosphere and the diversity of the enviroment ( you don't usually see that in other rest.). I sat and I was greeted and handled very well with the waitress that was assign to my table. The food came on time, drinks were made fresh and it was delicious ( I am now convinced that RED really serves the "" FAMOUS MARGARITAS "". The hosts ( I believe one of them was currently a trainee) came to my table and kindly checked if I was being handled properly which I thought it was great and rare at the same time because hosts would usually sit guests only. Although I was not able to see if their were any managers on the floor to thank his/her, I enjoyed my stay at RED.Overall the place is great, everyone seemed to get along great and is having a great bond with one another in terms of giving the best service in town. \r \r RED you got my vote!\r I'd be happy to come back anytime i'm in town.\r \r J.GIBS

The decor and outdoor seating makes Red very appealing to the eye. We were seated promptly and the service was very good, we didn't wait too long for our food, the waiter was around when we needed him. The food itself was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. It's not exactly worth the prices they charge. You can eat at Gonzales Y Gonzales at Houston and Broadway for the same price and you'll get a meal that's 10x better. If you have ever been to Chipotle (the burrito chain), the food here is very similar . So all in all, if you're looking for a place to eat while visiting the sea port or the area around it, Red is a decent choice. You won't be disappointed but you won't be excited over the food either!

Nice location, menu looks pretty good, food tastes slightly better than it looks (which is average). I think a lot of it is cooked from frozen (the calimari for example). Service is slow (though the waiter was polite), main courses were brought out while people were still eating their starters. When we complained about this, it was suggested it would be 'hassle' to take the main courses back to the kitchen. Well, I apologise for inconveniencing the restaurant. We had to leave after the starters, we couldn't take it anymore. Salud round the corner is much better if you want a decent meal.

Service was ridiculous. I won't bore people with details, needless to say, they screwed up orders, and were horrible about it... It's a completely mass-produced restaurant experience and screams more Michigan than Mexico, and I'm from California (I guess that qualifies me!)...\r \r Anyway, IF you make it to this restaurant, walk past it, towards the Bodies exhibition and il Porto, and turn right and head to Salud.\r \r We walked out during starters...

Have been to Red before, and have always been please, but this time I went here for a friend's surprise bday dinner With last minute reservations for about 20 people on a Saturday night, Red was very accomodating. We bascially had the whole upstairs to ourselves, and the service was very attentive, but not pushy. She let us have our fun. Strong drinks, good food, nice decor, great service....what more could you ask for? Also, the prices were pretty reasonable.

The beef they use is low grade and greasy! Overpriced menu and drinks. This place is geared toward tourists Dont waste your money or time with this place, it's not worth a try!

I LOVE this place! They have great drinks, good food, great prices....The staff is friendly. The atmosphere is pretty good considering this part of the city is entirely surrounded by suits.\r \r They have the best margaritas and I've VERY picky about what I consider to be a decent one. Highly recommend for dinner/drinks with friends or a date.

Once again, by chance, fate has awakened my palate to a new surprise. Red has it all! If you're looking for Mexican, South of the Border fan fare then this is it. My 1st time was last weekend, and already I'm back. The food is supreme freshness all the way down to the perfectly ripened avocados. The outdoor tables are perfect as the breeze from the South Street Seaport set the mood for a beautiful meal. Even the music with its Latin-House influence is perfectly inclined to persuade you to enjoy. So please go, and spread the word tell the manager Buron I sent you.

A few pals and I went here for a happy hour afterwork thing. It was nice to sit outside and get some of that financial district sea breeze in my hair. The atmosphere was alrightt, but other than that, Red isn't much to write home about. First of all, our waitress was nowhere to be seen when we needed her, and when we got the check, of course she was hovering. The food took forever to make, and wasn't that hot. The margaritas and beers were in small dixie cups instead of normal sized cups for some reason. What a rip!\r The place was pretty packed however, and seems to be a popular stop for afterwork Wall Streeters if that's your thing.

ive been here many times due to convenience rather than food quality. the enchiladas ($10.95 for chicken, $12.95 for beef) are decent and come with creamy mild guacamole, salsa, and rice. the chimichangas are ok too. meals are preceded by complimentary salsa & chips. portions arent very large for a mexican restaurant and i dont think that its super cheap either, but ive never had any real complaints. the only thing that annoys me is their no substitions policy. i asked for soft tortillas with my fish tacos instead of crispy shells, and they refused to substitute even when i offered to pay extra. restaurants should always be flexible, especially with such simple requests. ive never had alcohol here, but ive seen lots of offices here for happy hour. service is average. place can be loud, but thats part of the charm at this type of place.

If you're in the mood for Mexican while perusing the shops at the Seaport stop by RED. It offers excellent Mexican food in a large, relaxing atmosphere. Choose to sit inside or out, enjoy a coffee and people watching after your scrumptous meal. Whatever you do, give it a try if you're in the neighborhood.

I have gone to Red many times in the last few years (as I live a few minutes away). It is a great restaurant. The frozen strawberry and mango margheritas are amazing and very strong....have two and you are feeling good. They have a fun ambiance with two large floors and a great outdoor area. It's a perfect restaurant to go out with a group of friends and have some great mexican and laughs on the seaport. The chicken and steak fajitahs are delicious, they come out on a sizzling platter. The food is excellent, the service is friendly and very quick, and the prices are very inexpensive. It can also be romantic if you get a table upstairs or outside.

I'm surprised to hear about the bad service comments... I've been to Red many times as I live about 5 minutes away, and I've always found them to be surprisingly quick - once it took them less than 10 minutes to get me and my boyfriend our entrees, and the quality didn't suffer at all either. In gneral, prices are reasonable and food is very good. They have fun after-work happy hours as well if you're ever in the area!

I went to Red recently as it had struck me as a nice spot to eat at South Street Seaport. I would highly recommend it for location and ambience but I cannot honestly remember the last time I had to wait that long for service at a restaurant. And even more worrying is that they weren't even that busy! This was really disappointing as there is big potential for this to be a great South Street Seaport favorite with value for money food and good frozen cocktails. However unless you're willing to wait over 30 minutes to be offered a drink, not to mind an appetizer go elsewhere! I was seeing red by the end of the meal....

Red is ideal if you like TexMex and its nice weather. The food is good, but not great, with the exception of their taco salads (Steak especially). Think chain-restaurant TexMex, like Chevy's. But the best part is the location in South Street Seaport and the outdoor seating.

Service is decent, but not great. Unlimited chips/salsa, consistent entrees. Margaritas are not so hot, but beer list and sangria more than makes up for it. Good for after work.

Red never ceases to amaze me, but the service just gets worse and worse. Good margaritas, good fajitas, and service so bad it makes even people like me, who usually don't care about service, fuming with frustration. Go for the food, go for the drinks, but be sure to tip according to the service because these people don't deserve what they make
