RCI once used to be a fine small neighborhood appliance store. I am a contractor and bought there several times in the past. The store gave me a very good estimate for a Miele appliance package some three years ago. Last year I had a client who choose from a new Italian line of ovens and cooktops - SMEG. To my surprise RCI was mentioned as a dealer for SMEG. I was lucky I thought, the store is two blocks down from the client's apartment. RCI manager Kenny took the payment and promised to deliver within 14 days. I was not in a hurry for shipment and told Kenny he's got two to three weeks to deliver. The fourth week since the payment and no call from Kenny. I called, made an inquiry, was told the order was placed and the store is waiting for delivery. Six weeks later I called again and the store was closed in the middle of the week without a sign on the door, no one answered the phone either. Scary, I told myself. Three days later the store reopened, I found Kenny there and asked him about my stuff. His answered he was still waiting for delivery. I got really suspicious, and called SMEG showroom. Found out no order was ever placed. Called Kenny in conference call with SMEG showroom and asked him why he never ordered the $5,600 appliance combo. He first claimed that he placed the order, then he changed his story and said instead he had a flood in the store and everything was a mess. SMEG showroom manager could not believe what he heard and so did I. I asked SMEG how long would it usually take to deliver, was told about a week. Still having SMEG on three way call I told Kenny to deliver within a week, otherwise I would tear his business to tatters. Both items arrived in five days after this conversation. When the store guys delivered I told them I won't tip them because of their lousy boss. They were not happy with Kenny either and told me the business is down. When I asked about the flood in the store, they stared at me and did not know what I am talking about. Recently, someone from Upper West told me the store is going to close. No surprise, if Kenny is still there.

A Neighborhood Store that Treats You Like a Neighbor

We outfitted our new condo with high end kitchen appliances, washer/dryer and lots of air conditioners. We spent what was for us a lot of money, and it could have been a very stressful situation. RCI's owner Kenny and his team helped us select the models that best suited our home and lifestyle, and Kenny himself came to our home to evaluate the best air conditioner sizes and specifications for our home.
All products were delivered and installed as promised, with excellent communication throughout the process.
Prices were competitive with the big chain stores where you are just another number -- at RCI you feel like a valued customer, and are treated like one. We will definitely shop here again.

I ordered multiple appliances from this store - and NEVER received one!!! They 'claimed' that the model was no longer in stock - after spending my own time and effort, I found a distributor who had PLENTY. Instead of working with me and this distributor to solve the problem, I had to re-purchase the appliance from the 3rd party. Well, I STILL haven't received the money back from RCI for the appliance I never received (it's been months!!), not too mention any consideration for all the extra time and cost of finding it elsewhere!!!!
