I really do not understand the good reviews this restaurant has received. I am an avid restaurant goer, and this is the first time I have left a table with the food PAID and barely touched. First they brought a small starter that looked like potatoes. It was pears that we could not even swallow. Usually the restaurants I go to serve you bread and butter that you cannot stop eating. Here, they served us bread that makes you stop eating and wanting to put away the piece you have in your mouth. Following the advice of a reviewer, we ordered some salads but they were really terrible… We consumed one of them because we were hungry, but I really had to force myself to do it. I ended taking the salad from my plate back to the bowl. I had never done that in my life. I started to think, how sad…. Such a well rated meat restaurant with such horrible side dishes. I said to myself, the meat should be excellent if they can obtain such good reviews in spite of the appetite losing non edible food they started us with. Was I wrong! We had ordered two meat entrees. The food looked really terrible. Still I decided to give the chef a chance and started to try the food. Really, I do not understand where they got the good reviews. There must be something wrong with me. I ordered my bill, paid it without looking at it and even left some tip. I just wanted to get out of there ASAP without making a scene. I am not one to say, don’t go there. Certainly I will not recommend this restaurant to any of my friends. However, I hope you have better luck than we did To me, this is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to.

Tried the Restaurant Week menu.\r \r I had the scallops with creamed corn, hanger steak with brandied cherries and coffee and doughnuts ice cream. My friend had the steak tartare, baby back ribs and the mint chocolate chunk ice cream.\r \r I'd ordered my hanger steak medium well but it came out more like medium. My friend didn't like the whole egg yoke in her steak tartare and would've preferred it already mixed into the meat. Otherwise, the food was outstanding--meat so tender we hardly chewed.\r \r We were seated on the second level, it was darker and noiser upstairs. Decor was warm and cozy inside and unexpected from the white facade of the restaurant.\r \r Service was efficient and fast.

Birthday, February 2008. Website and recommendations for this place made it sound like it would be worth a trip into the city on a wintry night. done and done!\r The decor of this place just makes you feel cool. Big crowd at the bar living it up, no worries, the bar isnt near the tables wont distract a quiet dinner. Sure the place is kind of tight, it is NYC though, we are here to eat not square dance.\r Our waitress wasnt rude...I will call her sassy, we had such a good time she was spot on and took care of us so nicely.\r Thoroughly enjoyed the bone marrow, not something you see on the menu in most places.\r Really enjoyed the steak and dinner and atmosphere.\r Waitress offered me the ""chocolate brownie"" cake, I told her that was my nickname in high school....she snaps right back ""cause you used to crap your pants"" I smiled and fell in love.\r She had the kitchen staff really dress up our deserts for my birthday. I was completely satisfied and looking forward to go back, hopefully the waitress will be there.\r I enjoyed it so much that I kept a napkin with the ""QM"" embroidered on it.

this is an excellent modern NYC steakhouse. the portions are fairly big and the food is excellent. it is a fairly priced steakhouse. a bottle of wine, one appetizer (raw oysters), 2 entrees and a dessert for about $200. that's still a pretty good deal for midtown manhattan.

First, I had a reservation and upon arrival, I could not figure out what sins I could have committed in my life to get such a terrible table for 2; they squeezed me between two other tables and my elbows were literally almost scraping those of the people dining next to me. I could not even hold a conversation with my wife.. Nest was a Caesar salad that LITERALLY LOOKED AND TASTED like it was the pre-made bagged salad and dressing that you get at the supermarket!! It was $13 - $14 and I couldn't get past 3 bites! The bone in ribeye has gotten smaller than my last visit here over a year ago! It could be me, but I'm convinced that this restaurant's strategy is to keep or raise prices, but cut quality, portions, etc in attempt to boost margins in these difficult times. My bill w/ tax / tip was $250 and we did not even have a bottle of wine – I had a few beers and my wife had a glass of wine. Lastly, our waiter was pushy, cold and rushed us. In conclusion, this place needs to do a better job on its food or else folks like me will never go back; I personally will never. There are way too many choices of high quality steakhouses in NYC – for these prices, if you push customers too far, they will vote with their feet and wallets…

I would give this restaurant 1 star if it weren't for their awesome appetizers, side dishes, and ice cream. If they had the steaks to match, that would be easily a 4-5 star restaurant. However, the filet was chewy and poorly prepared. The inside was raw (I ordered medium) but the outside was already so charred and chewy that I didn't dare send it back for further brutality. If you've already been to the other high end steak houses in NYC several times and want to try something new, go to Quality Meats. But if you want something for a special occasion or if you're not yet tired of the other NYC steak houses, skip Quality Meats. You'll find better filets at Outback. If you do go, skip the Parmesan fries, they're nothing special. The corn creme brulee was great. I cannot recommend the crab cake strongly enough. Best part of the meal.

I found our waitress just short of rude. \r She seemed openly annoyed by my questions and impatient.\r And I most especially didn’t like them putting their hands on\r the top of my glass to make room on the table.\r Not only did we get their germy hands on the top of our glasses …\r they mixed up the glasses so that we had to guess which one was which.\r I also never saw the wine bottle nor the water bottle to see if we\r had drank it all. That is unusual. \r My salad was nearly impossible to eat in the bowl that it came in.\r The chopped salad was probably fine .. but there was no way to cut\r up the lettuce in the bowl and it was much too large to get into\r my mouth. I just gave up and quit trying to eat it.\r My steak had virtually no flavor. If I didn’t have the au poivre sauce,\r I wouldn’t have eaten it. \r The bread was excellent and the parmesan fries were good and the\r blueberry tart was good, asparagus was okay … not great.\r Even if my filet would have been cooked properly … it would have still been\r the worst filet that I even had a nice restaurant. In fact, the Longhorn\r Restaurant chain filet’s are even better than what we ate at Quality Meats.\r Definitely not worth what we paid for the dinner. \r Didn’t hate it … but did hate that it cost so much for such an average dinner\r

The good: Cool ambience\r The bad: 4 of us just went there last night. 3 of us ordered the veal chop (all medium rare). When we finally got them, all 3 were cooked medium well to well done so we sent them back.\r The ugly: 30-40 mins later after we got round 2, they were all ""rare"", barely edible and had to be the 3 fattiest pieces of meat that they probably carved away for the night and labeled as ""not for use"". We learnt our lesson and should have stuck with the well done original portions that we received. Abruch!

Had a blast here! All the fixings of a top-notch NYC steakhouse, a butcher who knows what he's doing, but a relaxing laid-back attitude that makes you feel right at home ie: PBR tall cans on the drinks menu. Met up here with a bunch of old college friends and we were back to our old shenanagins in no time. Ample seating and good spacing gives you the comfort to speak freely without thinking that half of manhattan is listening in to your conversation.

Quality meats is simply fantastic, from the bone in rib-eye to the milk chocolate torte with homemade vanilla ice cream there is nothing bad about this restaurant. the General Manager Mauriceo is the perfect manager for any restaurant to have and the staff is great. they make a homemade steak sauce right at your table that you can't stop eating, it is good on everything including the steaks but the steaks are perfectly cooked and seasoned so you might just want to dip your rolls into it. our suggestion is not to waste your money on any other restaurant this have everything you could possibly want.

I was a bit nervous eating here, given the recent bad reviews, but my friend was treating me for my bday so what did i have to lose? Anyways, so glad I picked it cuz I loved it! I thought everything was great! Decor was fine, service was nice, and food was great.\r \r I had the crab & avocado for appetizer, they give you 3 and it was good. My friend had the bone marrow and liked it too. For entree I had the filet mignon, medium rare, and thought it was tender and flavorful (more so with the sauce, gives it a lil spicy peppery kick). We also had corn creme brulee and edamame as sides, both also very good. I've been to other steak places where the meat is either too dry or its not cooked to the right way you ask for it, etc. I had no problems here. I would def come back to have steak again, or try other things on the menu. \r \r Totally recommend it !!

I spent a week trying to find a restaurant for a special occasion. After asking around, a few friends suggested Quality Meats. While none of them had actually eaten at the restaurant, they had all heard good things. After showing up for an 8:00pm seating, the waitress immediately began to try and turn us over, trying to take our wine, appetizer and main dish orders simultaneously. Apparently she didn't recognize the restaurant was half empty (on a Friday night at 8:00pm this should have immediately tipped us off as to the experience we were about to have). When the waitress brought the wine to the table she did not ask the person who ordered to taste the wine, instead just picked someon at random from the table (this was repeated with the next bottle as well). We then had to either flag down someone to fill our glasses or just take care of our own glasses. The oysters and appetizers were good, especially the gnocchi and cheese. Of the four diners, we all ordered a different steak, but the result was the same. We were all disappointed. The steaks were mis-cooked and the flavor was non-existent. Leaving half-eaten steaks must be normal here though, because even though we were seated immediately in front of the kitchen entrance in a high traffic area (unclear why they would place us here because as I mentioned the restaurant was half-empty), not one employee seemed to take notice and ask if anything was wrong. We have all had a bad steak, or poor service, at other NYC steakhouses, but what is unique about Quality Meats and noteworthy was the ability to combine BOTH bad food AND poor service.

First time I've posted a restaurant review, but had to comment on a generally negative experience I had here. It was especially disappointing because the dinner was to commemorate an important occassion and I'd spent some time thinking about where to go. \r \r Though no aspect of the meal was outright awful, the food was mediocre (despite the name, the steak was decidedly low-quality; at a table of four guys, no one finished their meat) and the service was weak, as our waitress was disorganized and forgetful. The ambiance had the potential to be great, but the restaurant's lack of a clear dress code found well-dressed diners seated next to tables wearing cargo shorts and birkenstocks. I hate to be a snob, but for the cost of this meal ($700 for a party of four), I think diners definitely deserve more.\r \r If you're up for a pricey steak, I'd recommend BLT Steak or Wolfgang's - Quality Meats has a long way to go before it can compete - or justify its price tag.

This was the most disappointing NYC steakhouse experience that I have had in my 15+ years living in Manhattan. I got the bone in sirloin prepared medium which was delivered to our table medium rare. The steak was bland tasting with no flavor and no crispiness on the outside. One of our other dining companions got the 3 mini filets each with a different sauce preparation. These were ordered medium as well and arrived at the table medium well and looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for 15+ minutes -- a grayish tint to the filets. The other problem we had was that we ordered an $80 bottle of wine and had to pour all but the first glass ourselves while at least 4 wait staff members lingered in our dining section. I expected at least good steaks from this place as it is part of the Smith & Wollensky family (you can never tell about side dishes - they were ok here - especially the Gnocchi & Cheese and edamame) but they weren't in the same class as Sparks, Luger's, Keens, Capital Grille, Ben Benson's or Striphouse. The homemade ice creams were excellent.

I love this restaurant. The steaks are great, fun appetizers, attentive staff... I've had a better time when it was a group of people, rather than just two, as the tables for two are a bit cramped. Last time we went it was a birthday celebration, I told them in advance and they served us generous glasses of a very good sparkling Italian wine, gratis, as soon as we were seated. Very nice touch. I'm not sure I can wholeheartedly recommend the marrow, though. I was excited to try them but after a few tastes it just seemed overwhelmingly greasy and I actually felt a little sick to my stomach. But aside from that, great restaurant. Really fun place to take visitors to NYC!

Our server started us off with some complimentary Proseco. We then followed it up with great (very generous) gin martinis. The oysters were presented beautifully and were fresh and delicious. Our steaks (filet & rib steak) were cooked perfectly! All along the service could not have been better! I would highly, highly recommend this steakhouse.

First time to this restaurant and certainly my last. Was with a group of 4, 2 ordered the rib eye--described as the house specialty--one sent his back, the other told me afterwards he would have done the same but didn't want to add to the waiter's grief....my bone-in sirloin was good, not great, and the other ordered the seared three filets, which was good. Seafood appetizer was decent, but no one liked the oysters or clams, and at a $150 (including 2 large stone crab claws) we felt a bit short changed. Service wasn't like others have described, we were seated at 7:30 and didn't get a check until almost 11:00 (had to flag down someone to clear our table and get the check). Wine list was pretty much either top shelf or garbage. Total bill for 4 with 2 bottles of wine at $100 each, seafood platter, 3 sides, 2 bottles of water ($9.50 a bottle?) and coffee for 4 was $650 before tip. Forget it, try BLT Prime, Dylan Prime, Sparks, Craftsteak, even Del Friscos for a much better meal and maybe even save a few bucks.

Was fortunate enough to experience Quality Meats last Thursday. I have been to quite a few restaurants for client dinners, and I have to say this was one of my favorites. We even spotted Jennie Garth dining with her family the table across from us. The servers were top notch and knew everything about the menu and wine list. The servers are very attentive and we did not have to ask them to come over even once. They were always there ready to assist. The apps and sides are to die for, as well as the desserts. Of course the steak was great too. I ordered the In-Bone Sirloin and it was very tasty and cooked to my specs. We had a 6pm reservation and it was pretty empty then, but by 8pm the place was buzzin. You have to order the corn creme brule and the gnocchi with cheese. We were there with 8 people and everyone loved their dishes. You will love this place!!

I had an amazing time at Quality Meats. The best part of the place wasn't even the steaks, it was the server who was nothing but sweet from start to finish. Mary smiled and knew about every item on the food and wine list. From someone who has been dining in New York since the early 90's Mary was the best server I've ever had. Bar none. Thank you so much Mary. See you soon

Really superior food in a funky, romantic atmosphere. The design elements of the restaurant are innovative conversation starters. Guys--this is the place to take a date if you want a fantastic steak in a setting she'll be impressed with. The crab and avocado was luscious, filet mignon perfect and crispy potatoes out of this world. Coconut cream dessert was also luscious. The only thing that missed were the asparagus. We are on a NYC steak quest and this is by far the best in food and atmosphere we've found. It's expensive, but so special it's worth it.
