cuisine was refined and well cultured, the chicken was seasoned vibrantly, but slightly dry from being overcooked. however, me being a somewhat of a wine critic in my personal life, have to say that the selection was one of the most comprehensive menus that ive ever experienced from an extensive array of all varieties to quench the pallat of the thirstiest gourmet!

Honestly its not a bad looking place, but behind it all the food does not speak for itself... Mediocre at best and thats being generous... Im not for bashing restaurants but this place is not what it appears to be.. For starters i ordered a Grey Goose on the rocks and it was NOT Grey Goose.. secondly, I ordered the special fish of the day and it smelled like it had been sitting around all day.. Disgusting.. People were nice but I think it was to make up for the quality in food and drinks they were pawning off.. Do not recommend this place.

Last week my husband & I had the pleasure of dining in the private Wine Room for 2 at Philip Marie. Our custom tailored 5 course menu was exactly what we were looking for at an unbelievable price. Not only was each item we enjoyed cooked to absolute perfection, but our server provided us with the most attentive service we have received in New York City in a very long time. By far, the pork chop was the most delicious I have ever had before in my life. My husband opted for the sizzling lobster, which smelled and tasted of aromas as divine as its presentation. The chef selected wines that were paired with each of our courses, far surpassed any expectation of a ""by the glass"" wine. Kudos Philip Marie for your unmatched wine selection!! If you are looking for an intimate experience, great food & friendly service this West Village find is undoubtedly the place to be!!

I had heard about this restaurant in the West Village from friends. Everyone had good things to say so I decided to take my date here. I couldnt have asked for more. The service was on point, the food was fantastic, and the portions were awesome. For being so reasonably priced, I was surprised at the beautiful plates being put in front of us. \r \r Try the roasted beet appetizer with the goat cheese dressing...so creative and delicious. The best part is this wonderful retaurant is in the best neighborhood in NYC...the West Village!\r \r Since then this has been my go-to restaurant in NYC and especially the village. I have sent multiple friends there everyone has been very pleased. Thanks Philip Marie!

We visit our daughter at NYU every other weekend and have enjoyed many terrific eateries for our Sundays lunch/brunch visits. Sadly, Philip Marie is NOT one of them. I think the reviews online are either staged, or out of date since nearly every review gives it the highest rating possible. The restaurant has even blocked the ability for patrons to write reviews on OpenTable, where I made my reservation, which really makes me think that they must be aware that the food stinks and are trying to keep the public from finding out. The food took a very long time to arrive and my salad and salmon both tasted
i like it i enjoy being there

I had read so many amazing reviews of this place. A friend and I went for dinner in March and it was... well, fine. The waiter was not especially friendly (nor was he rude) and the food seemed just slightly above average for a NYC restaurant. Loved the bartender, though!

My boyfriend and I went for New Year's Eve and we had an amazing meal. Not only did they have a bunch of options for the pre-fixed menu....the portions were great and not small as I thought they would be. Wonderful place for dinner, small but romantic. Will definitely bring our friends back!

Anytime a friend comes into town I take them here. THE hospitality is amazing and they really go out of their way to take care of us. I can't tell you exactly what they did for us... because it can't be expected or anticipated that they could do it for everyone... The food is great and very tastey!!!!!

My girlfriends took me to Philip Marie for a birthday brunch over last weekend. It was one of the best mornings out we've had in a while. Our server was a darling. She was very attentive despite how busy it was, being the middle of brunch and all. All three of us did the mimosa special, $16.95 for food and all you can drink mimosa not really a hard decision. Plus my crab cake Benedict was perfect.

I always tell people that I think of Philip Marie as 4-star food at 2-star prices. The menu is varied and fun and the staff has always been pleasant to me and the guests I have brought to the restaurant. I don't live in the neighborhood, but find the atmosphere and the food well worth the trip. My favorite things: Oysters Rockefeller (with goat cheese, bacon and creamed spinach), the Wild Boar (like a pork loin, wrapped in pancetta and served with a delicious sauce - I've had it with three sauces over the years - a gorgonzola cream (my fave), a fig sauce and an apricot sauce (I think that's what they've been serving lately), and the Chicken Pot Pie - just delicious. The double stuffed porkchop is also good - just too large for my diet! Menu is varied with interesting items - everything from Elk and Ostrich to Chicken to Duck... oh, yes, the Duck breast is another stand out for me. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced, usually also with some special offerings -- and several wines you don't normally see on a menu -- a terrific Sancerre and an outstanding Gavi. The restaurant itself is beautiful... suitable for a romantic dinner or a business lunch. Be sure to give yourself a little tour of the downstairs when you go... the party room and wine room for two are really interesting and, it's my understanding the building has a bit of history itself... it was stop on the Underground Railroad back in the day. Brunch, Lunch, Dinner - This is really my favorite restaurant in the city!

I had had a late night before and didn't want to get out of bed early but my friend insisted we go to brunch. We walked around the west village for a bit and ended up at Philip Marie. It was kind of late for brunch but we got in. We lucked out on an outdoor table which was fun, its a great little corner. Then the all you can drink mimosas and fried green tomato blt perked my right back up. Our server was so sweet and helpful, she was an absolute doll. Then before we knew notice time flew and it was dinner time. Being that my friend and I have the appetites of much larger people we ended up staying for a bit of dinner. We had a different server by that point but he was really helpful as well. They thought it was cute that we didn't want to leave. He helped me decide on the Sea Bass which was amazing it had this great sauce. My friend ended up doing the wild boar special. Neither of us had ever had anything like it and I was surprised at how much I like it. I'm not usually a pork fan but that dish won me over. I'm bringing my friend for her birthday.

We had the pleasure of spending an evening at Philip Marie during our most recent trip to NYC. We are well traveled and have had the pleasure of dining in some of the nicest restaurants in the country. THIS place will definitely become a regular visit. The food was incredible. Small but diverse menu with great accent dishes. The wine list has a stunning variety. The atmosphere reminds me of a corner bistro in a small European village but with the eclectic ""hip"" feeling that this part of NYC is known for. Our waiter was polite, prompt and helpful. The busboys were quick and swooped in without being noticed or interrupting conversation. We will return here without any shadow of a doubt. 10 out of 10!

Let's start with the positive - the food here is phenomenal I really love it this is probably one of my top 5 spots in NYC! The decor and atmosphere is great the only downside is that sometimes the service is not all that great I guess it really depends on who is serving you !

I went there with my boyfriend and another couple on Friday night. The first waiter we had was incredibly snotty and it kind of felt like he was stunned he was reduced to this kind of work. The main waitress was great. However, there was at least 3 busboys hovering around at any moment to clear plates. Which means that our app/salad plates were cleared one by one until the last person had to eat ALONE and while the rest of us were watching. Very much a pet peeve of mine. The snotty waiter cleared our drink glasses without asking if we'd like another. The entrees were good but same deal with the clearing. I told not one, not two, but THREE ppl (two busboys and what seemed to be the manager) to leave the plates until everyone was done eating. I gave up on the fourth.Snotty waiter (why we had two i don't know) literally reached over me to clear my friend's plate on my other side. He could have sat in my lap. On top of that, my friend and bo yfriend ordered the same meal. Her portion was about 2x as much as my boyfriends. We used a groupon and the bill was removed, changed to add a 20% service charge. Not written anywhere. Funny thing is, I had the bill figured out with a 20% tip because i'm programed to tip with mediocre service. Reason I won't go back? Service wasn't worth 20% and they had nerve to demand it.

The night that we came in they had a Jazz band playing which was lovely and it set a good mood. Its a very romantic place, so it was a good choice for our date night. The food was good and the portions were good sized. One of my favorite things that we tried was the baked brie, i recommend that everyone tries that appetizer. Also the service is amazing, the hostess was really pleasant and the servers were extremely attentive and our waters were always filled.

A good friend of mine recommended this place for Sunday brunch, so i called and made a reservation a week in advance. When we got there it was just getting busy and so we had to wait a few minutes until we got seated. What my friend didn't tell me is that on Sundays they have unlimited Bloody Marys for $17, on top of having a great brunch menu. I ordered Eggs Benedict, which were perfectly done ( i order the same thing anywhere i go). Our food came out fairly fast, and the server checked on us and was very attentive.

A friend and I were wondering around west village looking for a place to eat and somehow we ended up at this place. From the outside it looks like a little house, super cute.We got the right when the menu changed from lunch to dinner, and since we werent starving we just split dish and a salad. Our server, jen was super nice and when we asked her for recommendations she was extremely helpful. She recommended the Citrus salad, which was light and delicious. WE also got ravioli which was really good and filling. we are for sure coming back soon

My family, friends and I have been coming to Philip Marie for years and it is one of our favorites. The food is unique and delicious and we have grown quite a fondness for the staff. Recently they had a Mardi Gras party (our 2nd time attending) and it was fantastic. They had an amazing band (the gotham playboys from bruce springsteens old band) and everyone was enjoying the food and having a blast. The only snag in the night was a very disrespectful couple (see roomspimps review ((classy name by the way)) )who began causing a scene about an invalid coupon when the dinner was reasonably priced as is. The disgusting guy threatened to kill the waiter if he didnt apply the coupon. Some people could use a good lesson in acting like a human being and not a couple of homeless animals. But alas they eventually left and real life resumed at this amazing, authentic west village restaurant. Love you Philip Marie and theres some good customers out there looking out for you for all your years of great service!
