Group of friends after a play

    Provided by

Saw Hellman's Little Foxes at the NYTW and went to this restaurant after the play. Pangea's worked out quite nicely for us. The seven of us could talk to each other and the cocktails, service and food were just fine.

    Really bad!!

    Provided by

Crazy host/owner treated some customers poorly while fawning over others and he seemed to be drunk, laughing, singing, running up and down the restaurant yelling and behaving a bit out of his head. Service confused and slow. Food neither here nor there. Some of it downright bad. Maybe one could have a cocktail at the big bar but frankly considering how large this restaurant is and how few people were there and the things we did sample I wouldn't trust anything about this place. A mystery why it is still open given the word is it's been around for awhile. Believe me, you can do much better in this neighborhood.

    Consistantly great

    Provided by

Just had yet another fabulous evening at Pangea. I was introduced to this restaurant about a year ago while on a New York business trip. After no less than six five star evenings in the past six visits, it has become my favorite NY home court. The service, atmosphere and food never, I repeat, never disappoint. It is of tremendous value to me to have a restaurant like Pangea where I can focus on either the business at hand, or entertaining and know my clients or guests will have a great experience. I will be back many, many times. Definite five stars.

    neighorhood favorit

    Provided by

This is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants--one we keep going back to whenever we're in the area. Last night we had the duck confit & the spaghetti with clams (both specials & both very good). Always very dependable and we've never had anything we didn't like.

Cozy vibe, great drinks, wonderful food!

    Provided by

Just had an amazing meal. Lovely cozy atmosphere, amazingly friendly service and great food. The goat cheese salad was light, but flavorful. The salmon tartare was suprisingly but really enjoyably executed, and the ravioli was nicely balanced and perfectly warming on a cold night. Great cocktails also. The perfect neighborhood place for someone who cares about their food and ambiance.

    Lovely restaurant, food and service

    Provided by

We had filet of sole and a duck and our waiter Arnoldo had had the same dishes the night before -- just by accident. We all agreed that they were sublime.

    delicious food, great service!

    Provided by

I brought my parents to pangea because i've heard people rave about the food, and i wanted to please my parents who are foodies and usually find something wrong with the food. Pangea lived up to my expectations and then some. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine. My dad ordered the braised short ribs at his suggestion, and, they were delectable. He was still talking about it the next day. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable, perfect on a cold night.

    wondeful night!!

    Provided by

Just went here with my family and it was just an all around great night. The atmosphere is perfect- quiet, cozy, warm, and east village chic. The staff was very friendly, and both the food and wine were delcious. We were a family of 4, very picky eaters, and everyone loved their dish! Desserts were great too. definitely will be going back.

worst dining experience of my life

    Provided by

Pangea is an East Village leftover from the glory days but unfortunately the food they serve now tastes like reheated leftovers. The pasta is starchy which indicates that it has been precooked and then quickly reboiled for each order, the sauce it swims in indicates the pasta has not been properly drained. My wife ordered Roasted Bistro Chicken but was served Morrocan Chicken which she accepted due to our time frame until she tasted it, it was pink. When she finally received her correct order twenty minutes later we had to leave to catch a movie across the street but we were charged for everything, not so much as a free glass of wine while my wife waited. We paid hard earned money only to leave disgusted and still hungry. There is a very good reason the lights are turned down very low, unfortunately the lights in the restrooms are bright and and one discovers that the sinks are hanging off the wall and there is no toilet paper. There is a lively bar crowd , some of whom fell of their stools while we were there. I think this restaurant is nothing more than a boozey joint.

    lackluster food, shabby decor

    Provided by

This place looks OK until your eyes adjust to the darkness which cannot hide the shabby condition of the walls, floors, and the fact that nails and staples will snag you on the DIY poorly executed upholstery. There was also an infestation of fruit flies buzzing about and one had drowned in my wife's white wine. The pasta had been precooked and thrown back into some boiling water before serving which gave it a gummy texture and the sauce was more of a soup as the pasta had not been properly drained, my wifes salad was meager and lacked a dressing of any kind, our waiter informed us that the kitchen must have forgotten to dress the salad and brought my wife a bowl of it on the side. One does not receive value for their money at this place, we shall take our hard earned cash elsewhere.

    East Village at its best!

    Provided by

Pangea is the best restaurant in the area. I love going there because it is so welcoming and homey, and it has a regular crowd of local east villagers. The menu is amazing, I have never had anything on it I didn't like (try the apple and arugula salad or the bistro chicken!). \r their signature cocktail is this tequila drink with pomegranate in it - kinda like a margarita. speaking of margaritas, you will not find a better one. \r you will be hooked on this place after your first visit.

True New York, no B.S. Comfort Food

    Provided by

Pangea is one of my favorites -- a true New York no B.S. restaurant. The portions are generous, the food is flavorful and well thought out, the staff is absolutely charming, and I will definitely go back. The menu has it all (fish, steak, pasta...) and always features more than a handful of entree specials which keeps even the most repetitive eater trying new and delicious versions of classic dishes. To top it off, it is one of the most accommodating and comfortable places I've been to for large groups. It is definitely worth going to.

    Tasty Dinner

    Provided by

This restaurant is wonderful! I went there with a big group and everyone was more than satisfied with their meals. \r \r I had the fried calamari for an appetizer and the moules rrites for my entree. All of them were perfect and tasty. \r \r Our wait staff was very friendly and helpful. \r \r Highly recommend this place to anyone!\r \r

    Comforting Food

    Provided by

I'm a fan of this place. I get good service, the ambiance is fun, and the food is so very comforting.\r \r I often feel like American food is a ripoff (mostly because it's simple enough for me to make at home), but the quality of the ingredients here makes it worth it. The serving sizes are pretty big, and the food comes out piping hot!

    Cool restaurant, great food!

    Provided by

I just threw my wife a surprise 30th birthday dinner at Pangea and we had a wonderful time all around! The restaurant has a great scene to it, with a very cool lounge/bar feel to it in the first room when you walk in and a nice dining room in the back, which was perfect for my group of 9. The staff and service was exactly what I was hoping for as they followed a couple instructions I had for them regarding the surprise for my wife and when guests arrived, in addition to promising me a corner table in the back room. And best of all, the food was GREAT! The best thing about Pangea's menu is that it covers all different regions of the world, offering pasta, chicken, fish, steak frites, etc. A couple of us had the Jambalay, including myself, which was so good. Everyone else enjoyed their meals tremendously and not only was the food great, but the portions were huge and very affordable...we couldn't believe it! The cocktails were also a delight as we ordered a bunch of pitchers of sangria, and they offered several special drinks which a few of the girls had and loved. Overall, the dinner was very good, fun and well worth the experience of trying Pangea. My wife and I will definitely go back!

    Fancy Comfort Food

    Provided by

I think Pangea is really great... great crowd, great food, friendly and efficient service. It's really all you would want in a place to run and grab a bite every now and then when you get the craving for what I would call fancy comfort food. Food is probably in the 4 range, the extra star comes from the outdoor area that is perfectly done complete with misters and great lighting. A fantastic place to grab drinks and relax over great conversation.

    Flawless

    Provided by

One of the best dining experiences I've had in a very long time!!! From service to food to atmosphere, everything was absolutely on point. It was a dinner party for 10 and some people were running late, they graciously seated and allowed us to wait for the rest of the party. The food was tasty, fresh and perfect portion size. The waitress, was remarkable, personable, knew the menu and had very informed suggestions, highly, highly recommended. Everyone in the party thoroughly enjoyed this dining experience! Thank you to Pangea!!!!
