PURSUING A GREATER JUSTICE

General Info
Law firm for religious institutions and the religious community. Nelson Madden Black provides legal services for churches, synagogues, other religious institutions, and First Amendment religious discrimination clients. Nelson Madden Black has a rich diversity of experience in the practice of law generally: our lawyers have represented clients in transactional matters as well as in civil and criminal litigation, and as general counsel on the $1.2 billion renovation of Lincoln Center. Running through all of our practices has been a concentration on religious clients and causes. This varied experience allows us to provide an expansive set of services to our religious clientele. Our clients have included Christian ministers, Hindu temples, rabbis and cantors, Muslim refugees fleeing religious persecution, major evangelical organizations and many other types of religious institutions and individuals. Our experience includes Jonathan Nelson’s landmark case against the City of New York on behalf of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, establishing its constitutional right to minister to the homeless on its steps; John Madden’s work for religious institutions on an array of real estate issues; and Barry Black’s extensive experience representing clergy in employment, civil and criminal matters.
