Great Value in Midtown Manhattan

If you're looking for fancy decor, expasive rooms at 100's of $ a night, this is NOT the place for you. If however, you're looking for a comfortable bed, a pleasant staff and a reasonable rate, this IS the place for you. When visiting NY, we spend our time at shows and sight seeing, not in hotel rroms!
It's on W32nd St, only 1/2 block off Broadway in Korea town, a safe quiet neighborhood and the subway is right at the corner.
Your room rate will include a basic continental breakfast, free WiFi, and daily newpaper. They offer AARP and AAA rates. It's a small hotel, but well worth the rate you will pay.
We will definitely stay there the next time we visit the ""Big Apple"".

We canceled a resrvation, AND THEY MADE US TO PAY IT!

We canceled two room within the available time. We called them, and thay confirm us that the twe rooms were canceled. One month later they charged them to us via visa.
We claimed it to visa, and six months later, we don't have our money. They have big problems with their workers.Be careful

Good Hotel for the price & location

We stayed here for a week during Westminster Dog Show. The room we were assigned was very big considering some of the comments made earlier. There were 4 in the room and we did not feel cramped. The housekeeping was great, one day the Do Not Disturb sign was mistakenly left on the door and when we returned late that afternoon housekeeping offered to come in a clean. Our room was quiet - there was no view to speak of but I would prefer quietness to a view especially in N.Y. The breakfast buffet was adequate, fresh fruit, bagels, etc. We will stay there again and request the same room.

High value gem..

I was happy staying here because it was located close to penn station and to a lot of restaurants. They had responsvie staff. It was a bit of an unexpected surpirise to pay the 8% Javits Convention Centre fee so look into that before you go. But even with that amount it was a good deal for a couple or single business traveller.

a good surprise

Hi I booked this place thinking the neighborhood and the price would get me a bad place, but I was very surprised at the value. My room was spotless and well-equipped with good fast free Internet, free breakfast, and big bathroom (even though the room itself was tight as are most NYC hotel rooms). I plan to stay again!

Good hotel in a good location

We stayed there in late August and were very satisfied with the service and the location. It is close to Penn Station, Herald Square, and good Korean restaurants. We would stay there again.

Poor Customer Service

Our overall experience at this hotel was very negative. The staff was very rude and short and spoke little to no English. The rooms were extremely small. The ""business center"" is located in the poorly lit basement and consists of three ridiculously slow PC's (two of which wouldn't connect to the internet). They have a nifty kiosk in the lobby that allows you to print off boarding passes, but it wasn't working when I went to use it. I asked the hotel attendant standing close by if I was doing something wrong and he said, ""No work."" Which was obviously extremely helpful. The hotel staff at the front desk certainly must have hated their jobs too. And apparently the concept of a debit card hasn't quite made it to Apple Core hotels because they can't handle a simple charge. They strongly encourage credit cards for whatever reason and I don't quite know why because the staff wasn't able to clearly explain the situation in English. Why punish the poeple who actually want to pay with money they HAVE and not borrow with a Credit Card? Isn't that a huge part of the reason our economy sucks right now? Too many people borrowing who can't afford to? Anyway, I'm not bitter. Lol.

Other than all that, we had a pleasant stay.

Great for the price

I stay here several times a year and am always happy with my stay. Friendliness at front desk depends on who is working that day but they accomodate my room requests and I have not encountered anyone there who cannot speak English (as mentioned in an earlier review). This hotel really gets my vote because of housekeeping! Spotless room every stay. And there's no pounding on your door at the crack of dawn. They do have some really small rooms that i could not see 2 people in for more than one night but others are typical for NYC. Breakfast is nothing special but it is free. I don't need any services so for me this hotel is just right.

a cheap and convenient closet

I stayed at La Quinta because it was the cheapest I could find. The staff was courteous, numerous, and responsive, but the room was a closet. For the price, it was a decent place to stay and in a convenient location.

Rude receptionist

Room:
The room was about 5 x 5 meters, which I consider the minimum. The bathroom was 3 x 1.5 meters, which I found too small. The room had one window only and it was situated in a corner of the room. This made the room dark and I find dark rooms unpleasant. I always had to have a lamp on.

Gym :
The gym had a number of cardio machines. I had hoped for weight-lifting material but those weren't there.

Internet :
There's wireless Internet in the hotel, but that only worked good enough in the lobby. In the room I would sometimes have normal Internet connection, then it would disappear (while I didn't change a thing), and after a while the connection would be back. That way you can't really work on the Internet.

Reception :
When I checked in the receptionist was unfriendly. Even though I had paid the total bill for my entire stay of 6 nights in cash at arrival, the receptionist still wouldn't accept an international driver's license as an ID, although it met all the requirements he mentioned. While at reception (!) he actually made me go through my luggage to find my passport, even though I had told him several times that I didn't know where I had put it.
Although I travel a lot, this had never ever been an issue before (not even in the La Quintain in Los Angeles). He even had the guts to say that he wasn't obliged to let me into the hotel if I didn't show a passport.
When I had half of my suitcase unpacked (in order to search for my passport), he complained about the contents of my suitcase being displayed in public, while it was him in the first place who had demanded me to do so. To be frank, I think that this man should find another job.

Housekeeping :
The personnell that cleaned my room were clearly different. They were nice and helpful. My compliments to them.
