This is the best bialy spot

I've been eating these bialys for 20 years now, since I was 4 years old, and it's still one of my favorite places to stop by in my neighborhood. The bialys are always are a great snack for under a buck and the people who work there are always friendly. I still don't like bialys from anywhere else but here.

First found the place 20 years ago and it's still the same.

I love their bialys, especially the garlic kind. I found this place when I was 16 and it's been 20 years. Same quality since my childhood. Unfortunately I moved hours away and don't get to come as often. It's one of those beloved no nonsense kind of place and they haven't messed with the formula. Fresh with quality ingredients.

Takes Me Back To Childhood

This place is old school, hard core - you walk onto a floor covered with flour and place your order with the guy behind the counter. I always walk out with more than I can eat in a day or two, but they freeze nicely. However, I always tell people to have one right our of the oven, fresh. Brings back fond memories, with a tear in my eye, but chewing the comforting bialy makes it all better. It always has. With any luck, always will.

Family tradition kept alive

Hello. I am one of Morris Kossar's neices. I was just a baby when my father, Morri's brother-in-law, and my mother used to go to the bakery to assist. I remember growing up with onion boards hot out of the oven, long bags of bialys and tubs of butter to eat them with. I am close to the Kossars to this day as they are my family and I hope the owners now keep my uncle's tradition of hard work and the best of the best going for all to remember.

Shame on the new owners!

Who are all these people writing about how wonderful these ""Kossar"" bialys are? Last night I bought a dozen, believing them to be, as they always were, the best in the city -
Arguably the best in the country ...... well, NOT ANY MORE! They are tiny, doughy, tasteless and not worth the calories. The consensus among those who ate one was-
NO WAY THESE WERE KOSSARS!. Sure enough, I just read that Kossar was no longer the owner. Doh! What a surprise. Save your money! Buy some English muffins.

Awesome bagels

These guys have the best bagels in the city. Not too pricey either, they can also do large orders. Highly recommended!

Best Bialy

The best bialy I've ever had. If I lived closer I'd be there all the time. Nothing beats their bialys. Love the place and the warm bialys cant be beat.

Seriously great bialys

The bagels and bialys are fabulous. Sometimes annoying that it's closed on Saturdays, and that the space seems kind of grungy, but if you can score one of the benches outside it's nice to eat outside the shop. They sell Tuv Taam cream cheese too!

ADMIRER FROM CALIFORNIA

After several visits to Manhattan, I finally was fortunate enough to experience the pleasure of Kossar's bialy's. Although they are in the bagel family, these tasty dough based morsels have a depression in the middle filled onion, garlic or poppy seeds. Kossar's is the last bialy baker in Manhattan and worth the logisitcs of finding. This is Old World baking at it's best originating from Bialystok Poland. The bakery harkens back to ""Old Manhattan"". Please be sure to visit this historic venue before they lose their lease and it's taken over by the "" upteenth"" yuppie bar.
