Clearly not interested in creating repeat customers

    Provided by

Based on lack of customer service, I would not recommend Juniors. \r \r On a lunch trip to Juniors in July 2010, my mother-in-law suffered an injury which now, 9 months later, still has not been rectified. During lunch, my mother-in-law went to the ladies room. When she walked in the door, the janitor accidently sprayed a heavy cleaning chemical in her face. While this was unintentional on the part of the cleaning person, my mother-in-law suffered severe burns and eye strain. The injury was so extensive, she and her friends had to cut-short their Day Trip and my mother-in-law had to go the doctor as soon as she returned home. At the time, the Manager was apologetic and offered to comp the meal. After making the gesture, he quickly disappeared, and never followed through on his promise. \r \r I'm writing this review, because I think it's unacceptable that Juniors would treat a customer like this. While I can't speak to the quality of the food, this incident clearly demonstrates terrible customer service and lack of respect for visitors to NY. \r \r This is a ""tourist trap,"" and clearly Juniors has little regard for creating repeat customers.

Great breakfast.........watch out for tips included in bill.

    Provided by

A group of us went here for breakfast and had a great time. The food was delicous and of course the cheesecake was the best. The wait staff was very accomodating to our group, they actually held a table for us for a 1/2 hour. The only complaint I have is that the food was expensive, which I guess is to be expected in Times Square area. Watch out for the final bill the wording can be very tricky, the receipt says the amount of the 'suggested' tip is 15-18%, instead of saying that the 18% gratuity was already included in the bill. Buyer beware of the service charge on your bill, that is the tip....

    above average desert

Definitely go here knowing that thier specialty is the deserts. They are pricy and the server was rude and not attentive (Betty). We made 3 trips ther while in NYC for the red velvet cake and carrot cheescake.

    average across the board

I agree with most of the reviewers here. The cheescake is YUMMY but the food is just so-so. One note about the devils food and carrot cake cheesecakes is that there are layers of actual cake mixed in with layers of cheesecake. If you are a cheesecake purist, you will probably find that a little weird. The cake part was moist though and tasted good to me! I ordered a salad, it wasn't very cold and it was drowning in dressing. The service was awesome!! I haven't had a such a friendly, competent, and attentive waiter in a long time. There was a short wait to be seated which gave me enough time to look over the HUGE menu. All in all, I would recommend Juniors only for the cheescake. I think they should ax the huge menu and focus on fewer items and do them well!

Just OK Food But Excellent Cheesecake

    Provided by

Junior's made their name with their cheesecake and it definitely didn't dissapoint. The crust was flaky and thin but still held up without falling apart. The cheesecake itself was incredibly smooth and light. Too often cheesecake can be super sludgy and heavy and that can leave the diner feeling ultra guilty or ill after eating a piece. Junior's cheesecake slices are moderatly sized so that a normal human can consume one with minimal guilt. Junior's does serve other deli styled food, which are average compared to what you can get at other New York delis but it is definitely worth a visit, even if just for the cheesecake.

    Great Surprise!

    Provided by

I was very impressed with this restaurant. The location was perfect. It was a VERY busy establishment which USUALLY means that it's a good place to go -- we were right! They have an extensive menu with just about everything you could imagine. The portions were generous, the prices were good, and the quality was very good as well. Also impressive were the wait staff. Our waitress was VERY busy but she was still attentive and we never had to wait for anything we needed. It was also amazing that they could work as quickly and efficiently as they did without bumping into tables or chairs or clients (this is not always as easy task in NYC restaurants). I will definitely go here again when visiting the city.

People, Junior's is known for it's CHEESECAKE for a reason!

    Provided by

I've was born and raised in Brooklyn and have eaten Junior's CHEESECAKE before my taste buds were fully formed! Real New Yorkers DO NOT GO TO JUNIOR'S TO EAT A MEAL! They go to Junior's for the CHEESECAKE and Desserts! That's were the rest of you posters messed up! Junior's is well-known strictly for their CHEESECAKE and Desserts. You don't see them selling millions of deli sandwiches on QVC for goodness sake! What you do see is them selling millions of CHEESECAKES and other desserts. If you looked at the take out line, you would have seen most people ordering CHEESECAKE and desserts and prompty leaving. I now live in NC and if I go to NY to visit family (which is at least 3 times per year), I can't come back to NC without a Junior's strawberry CHEESECAKE. I would not recommend Junior's for a meal, sandwich or anything else but (say it with me, people) the CHEESECAKE! If you MUST have a full meal, then cross the bridge into Brooklyn and go to the original Junior's restaurant in Brooklyn!

Great Cheesecake and German Chocolate Cake but NOTHING ELSE!

    Provided by

My mom and I went in on a Saturday night at 10:35 pm and it was busy but that is what you get in NYC we found out being it was our 1st trip to NYC. However, our wait was not long but the waitress didn't have a clue! We kept having to repeat ourselves and she seemed lost. She told me that fries came with my $10 BLT but when it came out NO FRIES and she told me she didn't say that. She said they come with the $9 Grilled Cheese but not the BLT OK! Next my mom ordered a $2.25 glass of tea but recieved NO refills. OK!We ordered our cheesecake and german chocolate cake to go....ready to get out of there. It was absolutely delicious but the meal was not to die for and the service was not so great either. I found it quite expensive for the experience.\r

go for dessert- AVOID a meal

    Provided by

Granted, I went to Juniors On a busy friday night and the place was slammed. But so much happened that I dont know where to start: the waitress was a joke- she was just too busy and was not able to give good service. For example, she completely forgot one of my friend's orders so my friend had to wait an additional twenty minutes for her meal to come. Then- the truth hurts- I had a hair in my sandwich. Yes, A long one and it was sadly in the cheese- which is the best part. I lost my appetite and didn't even bother the waitress-not like it would have mattered. HOWEVER, I regained my appetite when I saw the cheesecakes- THE CHEESECAKE IS DIVINE! If you like your dessert- you would love the cheesecake that is covered in strawberries- whole strawberries, mind you. So in conclusion- Id suggest going for dessert at an unpopular hour to avoid the rush.

    Don't let Cranky people discourage...

    Provided by

Okay, So I read the only comment listed and felt compelled to give my 2cents. There are many key factors that make a cheesecake ""good"". There's your light & fluffy cakes and there are your thicker more creamy cakes. If you like chewing on a hunk of cream cheese you probably won't like Junior's. I personally found their cakes to be very flavorful and pleasing to the taste buds. It's light yet creamy all wrapped up into one fabulous bite. If it's atmosphere you're looking for.....why would you be going to a ""deli""? It's old world New York for goodnessake. Don't let the gripe of the previous writer discourage you from giving Junior's a shot. They have GREAT cheesecake! If it's 5-star you're looking for.....you need to shoot for something without the word ""Cheesecake"" in the name. Again, my personal opinion.

Don't believe the hype! Junior's is nothing to write home about!

    Provided by

Ok, so I've been to Brooklyn so many times, I've stopped counting. I've been to Junior's only thrice in all of those visits. Why? Because the food is not good! I don't know how they earned their rep for being the ""best cheesecake in town"" because I've tasted better. NEVER and I repeat NEVER get their water! It tastes horrible, but I should have known that beforehand. It's NY for goodness sakes! The atmosphere of the place in not one to relax and take in. It's a busy deli/diner type eatery and the waitstaff is less than enthusiastic to serve you. Junior's makes money off their reputation, not their food. I'd skip them and find another establishment worthy of your dining dollars.

    CHEESECAKE TO DIE FOR

    Provided by

Their Carrot cheesecake is my new best friend. Like silk. Heavenly. Skip the meal though. It's really too expensive. I had a great steak burger there, but other than that, meh. They bring you a bunch of pickled things to start with. No bread, just pickles and beats and such. Weird, huh? But I enjoyed it. Seriously, go for the cheesecake. I have never had better, and believe me, I've had a LOT of cheesecake.

Crowded, but a good place to hang out after a broadway show

    Provided by

We just went to the cafe part of the restaurant. The ambiance is nothing spectacular, but I guess it's a good place to just relax and watch all the people go by. The cheesecake was very good, but I've had better.

Worst service ever, which would be excusable if the food were any good!

    Provided by

The menu is misleading, listing lunch and dinner prices for entrees. When you eat at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, you think it's lunch. When the check came, with the dinner price, we pointed it out to our server, who took the check back to fix it. Instead, another server and manager come to explain that the lunch prices are only applicable on certain days (this not being one of them), and that this caveat is mentioned on the menu TWO PAGES BEFORE THE ENTREE LISTINGS. I guess we're supposed to read the menu like a novel, dutifully noting each passage. They refused to take responsibility for the confusion and fix the check, no doubt assuming we were tourists on whom they needn't depend for repeat business. The manager was nasty, and incidentally so was the food. Tasteless and totally uninteresting. By the time we finished eating that, we had no interest in the cheesecake they're famous for. Don't eat here. They don't care about you one bit, and they don't even know how to make good deli food.

    Cheesecake Blunder

    Provided by

Its not as good as Brooklyn, lets preface this right away. However, the decor and actual restaurant is very nice but thats only because its decked up more because of Times Square locale and the fact its the newest one out there. The service has been surprisingly very decent here, despite the semi-high prices for diner quality food. Stick with Brooklyn unless the children can't pass this one up.
