Great food, great atmosphere, great staff

    Provided by

Jim Brady’s is a home from home for many locals like myself, but in addition also welcomes business folk and visitors to NYC – you never know who you will end up talking to at the bar. The food is superb large portion Irish fare with excellent rotating specials, never had a bad meal in the place. It has a charming décor with comfy booths in the restaurant, so you can have an intimate meal if you wish. Great music as well, including occasional live bands. \r Excellent service from all staff, combined with the high quality food, is the reason we keep going back. \r

    classy, neighborhood bar/restaurant

I love Jim Brady's. It's a great place to grab a quick beer or have dinner and talk with the locals. I've made many good friends there. I wish i could go more often. Say hi to Joe and Billy for me.

    Very Disappointing

    Provided by

After reading other citysearch reviews, I was looking forward to the night. Typically, one can't go wrong with an Irish pub and good music. The place was crowded and hot, but we worked our way through and settled at the bar. There were four bartenders, but we could not get a drink or something to eat. The bar was littered with empty glasses, dirty plates, etc. The bartenders were all socailizing at the far end of the bar and were more interested in the entertainment than customers. When I finally made eye contact with one of them, he actually shook his head and looked away. After about 30-45 minutes, we left and headed over to the seaport area.

    Great Service and awesome food

    Provided by

My friend's and I were downtown for and event and we needed a place to eat after. We decided to give Jim Brady's a shot.\r \r The moment we walked in a sweet Irish man came and welcomed us into the restaurant. We sat at a great table in the front near the bar. Drinks were immediately brought to our table.\r \r I was surprised to see how extensive the menu was for Irish place. They have all the Irish classics along with almost anything else you can imagine. I was even more surprised as to how delicious the food was. All of our meals were great and the service was unbelievable! \r \r We truly enjoyed ourselves and by the time we left I felt like some of the staff members were my old friends. The owner even gave us a hug as we walked out the door!\r \r I cannot think of one reason why anyone should not come to Jim Brady's. Even if you live uptown is worth making the trip down. I plan to come back here again and again!!!\r

Best downtown neighborhood bar, by a mile

    Provided by

What a surprise! You'd never guess from the outside what a cool, friendly place this is. I recently started working in the neighborhood, and stuck my head in after a long day's labors. Joe, one of a few Irish bartenders there, rules the room, and makes everyone feel comfortable. Scrolling through the reviews here, I'm not surprised that the vast majority are as enthusiastic about this place as I am. My only worry is that is gets ""discovered"" and loses its character.

    Joe the Bartender

    Provided by

This is one of a few places that I will give a rave review to, but I don't want everyone else to (and crowd me out and not let me save seats). It all rests with Joe. Joe The Bartender. It doesn't get much better than him, and he's always there to chat, help, or banter (if that's what you're in the mood for). One of my favourite people. Cheers to Joe x

    Great Burger and Great Bartender

    Provided by

I travel to NY once a month and I almost always have one evening that I need to eat out by myself. I always chose to go to Jim Brady's not only for one of the best burgers in NY but because of Joe the bartender. Being by myself and eating alone Joe always makes me feel at home with great conversation cold beer and good food. I highly recommend Brady's.\r \r Joe - Thanks for making me feel at home!\r \r Jeff

Look elsewhere. Poor service. Lousy food. Expensive in that you pay for what you don't get.

My girlfriend and I were matching my friend up on a blind date with one of her girlfriends and decided this would be a nice place for them to meet after work (based on my friend's opinion as well as other encouraging reviews here). I'd not been here before.\r The place has character and is attractive albeit quirky inside, charming at first sight. That's where it ends. The bartenders are lousy and do not pay attention to their customers -- they spend more time conversing with each other than serving. At least we weren't the only people being ignored, if that's any consolation. Their service can be summed up here: We were saving a seat for the female-half of the blind date who was running a little late because she got stuck at work. We chose a corner of the bar near the front where we could be out of the way. I left my coat on the back of the stool to save it (3 of us, 3 stools, fair enough?) so that the fourth person could sit when she arrived. Some guy came in alone and asked if anyone was sitting there. My girlfriend politely said we were saving it for the blind-date who would be arriving momentarily. At that point the bartender lectured us that we weren't allowed to save seats and went on about it for a couple of minutes. Adding to the ridiculousness was that the bar wasn't crowded, other seats were available and this bartender was showing more hospitality to a party of one than to a party of 3 soon to be 4, who were drinking and looking at menus! And we were saving the seat for a woman, mind you! We ignored We ordered appetizers: nachos and chicken fingers. Both were awful. The chicken fingers were a cutlet that had been sliced up after it was cooked and was extremely greasy (dripping grease).\r The bill was high and I'm only saying that because the quality and service were extremely lacking. First and last time I will ever go there, last time for my friend, too. I enjoy many kinds of bars. No wonder this place was empty by 730 on a Friday night. Avoid it!!

    Best neighborhood bar ever

    Provided by

When I had some tough times, Jim Brady's was the place to get a pint and talk to Joe the bartender. When I was getting married, my friends and I went there the night before to celebrate. When my wife and I got back from our honeymoon, we headed to Jim Brady's for a few drinks and some good food. On 9/11, I have a pint there to remember those we lost. On St. Patrick's Day, I go for some of the best food and company you can get -- plus a bit of live music and some dancing.\r \r If you've never been, you're missing out. If you went and had a bad experience, go again -- I'll buy you a drink...

    Friendly, Neighborhood Bar, Good Food

    Provided by

What a comfortable place to have a drink, sit and chat or take the time to have a nice dinner. Joe, Paul and Billy are at their very best in making you feel welcome and comfortable at Jim Brady's. Literally a friendly neighborhood bar in the financial district where you are always greeted with a smile and friendly hello. Friendly patrons, great conversations, good food - a nice place to take a break. Stop in and say hello - you are assured a friendly welcome.

Your Local In the Financial District

    Provided by

I have been going to Jim Brady's for over 20 years. it is a warm, convivial place in the heart of the financial district, with excellent food, friendly service and fair prices. Not only does the restaurant feature the traditional Irish specialties of Shepherd's Pie, corn beef and cabbage and bangers and mash, but it also offers the best hamburger in New York, a flame broiled 12 ounces, done perfectly to your specifications. The fish tastes as if it was freshly caught and there is always a large variety of offerings. There are pasta and salad specials each day and pizza at night. If you are looking to quench your thirst, the beer and cocktails are generously served with some of the fairest prices you will find downtown. \r \r With all that, the bartenders Paul, Joe and Billy provide what makes Jim Brady's so special -- someone who knows not only your name but your tastes and interests; someone with a smile when you need one and an patient ear when you need that. When you go to a restaurant and find that most of the people there are regulars you know you have found somewhere special. In New York restaurants come and go by the thousands. Jim Brady's has been at the same location in the Financial District for over 30 years. If you know anything about New York you know how special that longevity truly is.

    Great customer experience

    Provided by

I don't normally write reviews, but wanted to give these folks the attention they deserve. If you ever wanted to walk into a restaurant and feel immediately comfortable with the place, Brady's makes sure this happens. From Paul, Joe and Billy shaking hands and serving drinks (Suggest the Harp on tap!) to Celeste (That die hard Yankee fan!) and the waitstaff, to the cook in the kitchen, your experience is going to be one that will bring you back. You should expect great food (Burgers done excellent!) and great banter\r when you go. If it wasn't for having to sit in between so many Yankee and Met fans, Brady's would give you the impression of a Cheers type establishment. I recommend my friends at Brady's highly!

Ultimate Food, even better with a few pints!

    Provided by

Maybe its an Irish thing but what a place!! The atmosphere of Bradys....large, classy bar with its ""off the boat"" Irish staff mixed with a combination of a burger you could sink your mouth into everyday made an unforgettable evening. I thought i would stay for one pint but after some comical bantar from the bartenders and even whittier comments from the waitresses had me staying way past curfew for a weekday outting. The portions on the plates and their ultimate tastes will definitly bring me back to that ""oh so friendly place"" ...... where they know your name and have a drink awaiting. I recommend just about everything on the menu but the cheddar cheese burger topped my charts on Best Burger in New York. Overall- definite place to chill out, have a pint, and meet some great people.

    Over Priced and Poor Service

I went here on a Thursday night for happy hour and appetizers. We sat at the bar. Food and drinks were way over priced and not that good. Happy hour does not exist. Will NOT be going back.

Worst food service in Lower Manhattan

    Provided by

Went to the bar for a beer and a burger for a late mid-week lunch. There was absolutely no crowd at the bar. Drink service was fine, but burger took at least 50 minutes. I say ""at least"" because I paid for my beer and walked out after 50 minutes - who knows how long I would have waited. The bartender was unable to provide any update or feedback to explain the complete lack of food service provided here. I had to settle for a quick sandwich from Hale & Hearty across the street - I will never attempt to have lunch here again.

    Decent Irish Pub

    Provided by

Went during what we thought would be happy hour, but it was non-existent - $5.50 for a pint is okay, but certainly nothing special during the 4-7 time period. The $10 nachos were decent, and 2-3 people can snack on them. Overall, an okay experience, but certainly nothing out of the ordinary

    Looking forward to Dinner

    Provided by

We had lunch at Bradys the other day while in the city for the day. All I can say is if lunch was this good I cant wait to have dinner there. Any place that can make grilled cheese and tomato that good has to pull out all the stops for its dinner menu. We loved the look and feel of JB's also. Just when we arrived the lunch crowd started to filter out but it looks like a great place to have a few pints of Guinness and talk with the people at the bar.

    Best Atmosphere!

    Provided by

What can't you say about JB's. The classic decor, the nicest bartenders, and classy pub grub all make me wonder why I would go elsewhere when I am downtown. By far the best atmosphere South of Houston St.

    World Cup

    Provided by

Brady's served a great Irish breakfast to the early risers who watched the USA vs. Germany world cup match last thursday. The fact it was a very exciting game only added to the 'wall to wall' packed wall street males experience. The staff worked wonders to make sure everyone was fed and drinks were available. Bravo Great job!! Next time I have an occasion to drink at 7am this is where I'm going.
