Great place for music

We especially enjoy the music and the atmosphere at the Greenwich Village Bistro. Carla, the owner, is always welcoming, mixing around to customers.

We visit NYC several times each year and make sure to stop at the Bistro, Great location! Last weekend we enjoyed ""The Bill Murrray Experience"" with a fab vocalist. Also ""Fellaheen"" which bills itself as ""Stange Music for Strange Times"". One of the lead vocalists really sounds like
Tom Waits.. Enjoy!

Welcome to the Village

A surprisingly local bar/restaurant in the heart of Manhattan's most touristy neighborhood. I'm happy to call the place my local!

Good taps, good tasting, simple menu! A nice selection of wine with GREAT staff and ownership.

Probably one of the best patios for people watchin'; nestled up nicely against the newly renovated Father Demo Square, the defacto center of the Village while WSP is being torn apart.

Enjoy

Best Local Bar with the Friendliest Staff and Ownership (Awesome Music and Atmosphere)

I was hanging out and walking around the Greenwich Village area on a beautiful Sunday and stumbled upon Greenwich Village Bistro. After walking in and sitting at the bar, we were promptly greeted by the bar and our drink order was taken. The staff was so friendly (reminded me of Cheers) as they knew most of the people coming in...meaning, they have regulars. I felt so at home and comfortable. \r
\r
The patio was hopping but after sitting at the bar and getting to talk to the staff, we decided to stay inside on a beautiful day. We got there around 4 pm and left around 8:15 pm. We had some food (great) and awesome beers. We tried most of their drafts. There was a piano player when we first arrived, who was awesome and then a band came in with two awesome signers and performed some great jazz scores. It was awesome, great experience and a definite keeper. \r
\r
I read the other reviews and in shock how anyone could say negative things about this establishment. The thing a like the most about the place is that it is cozy...smaller so a big party would be a challenge during busy hours but off time would be great. Our food along with others food came out on time. It was AWESOME. Last but not least, they switched bartenders about 20 minutes after we arrived so we got to talk to an awesome bartender (Brian) for the remainder of our visit. We also got to know Carla (the owner), who is so personable and passionate about her business but mostly about her customers and employees. She has such a big heart. She even shared some food with us and allowed us to sample all of the beers...extraordinary. We really loved her and Brian along with all of the staff including the chef, who we met later when he came in for a drink. This is a doubt. \r
\r
If you are up for a good time with real people and want to be treated as a real person by a business that cares about their customers, I highly recommend this restaurant/bar.\r
\r
Love Yah Carla, Brian & team,\r
Kenneth

Good Village Spot

I've been to Greenwich Village Bistro a few times, sometimes with just a friend or two and other times with a larger group. I've always had good service and the waitstaff is always friendly and accomodating. The food and drinks are tasty as well. Also, it's a great location in the Village.

Not a place for a large group of people or if you have any place to go after dinner.

I went to this restaurant last weekend with a big group of friends and the beginning of our evening was enjoyable. There was a lovely piano playing and the service was good. However, as the night wore on things got worse. Our food ended up taking an entire hour to come out. It was ridiculous and we were starving. When it did finally come out, it unfortunately was not that great at all. When we had to go to the bathroom it was difficult because there were drunk men passed out or throwing up in the bathroom. When we voiced our upset feelings to the owner she was barely apologetic. We spent over $300 while we were there and for the poor service she took off a wopping $18 (our appetizers - which were very measly servings anyways)! I do not recommend going to this place with more than four people in your party (since they blamed our hour wait for the food on the number of people in our party).

Wonderful late brunch!

I've been coming to NYC for 25 years; how have I missed this? Slept late, was wandering the Village with my husband and came across this lovely place. Smoked salmon, REALLY poached eggs, and great hash browns. Oh, and I had a mimosa--only it was made with peach nectar!\r
\r
Great atmosphere--we sat outside--and good service. No one was in a hurry to leave, and nobody rushed us! Everyone was just sociable enough without invading privacy. \r
\r
This will DEFINATELY be a part of my every visit. \r
\r
elasnow\r
birmingham, ala

Perfect place to spend your evening.

Fabulous food...but even more, fabulous people. While on vacation we stumbled on it one evening and had to go back the next night. The chef, Patrick, who we were able to meet, created some of the best mussels I have found. We also had steak and potatoes, that made a perfect combination on the plate and in the mouth. It was the kind of place that you go through 2 bottles of wine and too many stories to count. I would recommend it to anyone visiting...especially those who prefer to get away from the tourist mob of Times Square.

Great drinks and Service

I recently stopped by the Bistro with my 15 year old daughter who wasn't used to a restaurant as quaint as the bistro. She loved the experience. The food, which was recommended by the waitress, was delicious. My drink was a mixture of mango juice and saki which was also recommended by the knowledgable and friendly waitress, was incredible and not pricey. (I love saki but this was unexpectedly good) The atmosphere was pleasant and quite enjoyable. I understand they have music on certain days during dinner, although when I was there, there was no music. I look forward to going back when the music is playing. Great wait staff.
