You know that old joke about the lawyer who when he saw you across the street charged $300 to cross the street to say hello to you and then charged another $300 to cross back to the original side when he realized it wasn't you?
Be very careful of Gary Lombardo, especially if you're not plumbing savvy. Initially very friendly with a low initial quote of $5,575 he added on "extras" until the whole job totaled $8,200.
We discussed for example the layout of the gas piping on multiple occasions but due to his not taking notes he laid the pipes incorrectly and had to redo that portion of the job. Not only did he charge for the redo (to correct his error) but he charged "extra" for the original error too even though laying kitchen gas pipes was included in original estimate.
During meetings with the super, the GC and based on his having done work in the building previously he knew what the building requirements were but then too added on "extras" for having to replace certain pipes back to the riser.
His workman Keith is a real gem: having not taken responsibility for damage to my kitchen walls and bathroom ceiling his only comments were that the free beverages and lunch I provided weren't chilled/warmed to his liking.
When I disputed the charges he then threatened me with a mechanic's lien if I didn't pay his demand. For other time sensitive DOB reasons I couldn't get into fighting the lien and so I paid up.
I'll be reporting him to Better Business Bureau and DOB Special Investigations Unit but wanted to get the word out there to stay away from this thief.
