The three times I called throughout the week, I got inconsistent answers about the time and prices of Salsa classes. The first bartender was offended that I even ask such a dumb question; apparently she never got the message the club offers classes as it says online. 2/3 bartenders said there were classes Tue/Fri for $5 at 8pm. I got there early. I was charged $10 instead of $5 and lady at the door says classes were already starting so I just went with it. After half an hour and asking 3 different staff members, one said there were no classes, the other two said it started at 8:30...I could see I was not the only one waiting for classes and no one, including the owner knew where the teacher was. The lady at the door changed her answer about the class starting time when I asked her at 8:45pm. By the time it had passed 9PM (the time classes were supposed to be done), everyone kept saying the classes were starting, though no one knew when. I asked for a refund since the there was obviously no salsa class and the owner or the lady charging covers wouldn't give me any money back.

cool club on the upper west side

Well priced drinks, relaxed environment, We wemd there for a friend's birthday party. They were very accomodating, no hassles at the door, and we all had a great time. I have been back a few times since

careful who you hire to represent your club

i'm a filmmaker who loves to salsa... i've been to many clubs in new york, and i was going to check out columbus 72 for the first time this evening, after much coaxing from my friends... HOWEVER, greeting me at the door was an incredibly RUDE security guy (i think his name was warren, or whatever)... i'm a new yorker, so it takes a lot (A LOT) to put me off... and trust me, he went there! what a way to turn someone off to a club! never do i step foot in that location again... if they can't be nice at the door to the ladies, there's plenty of other places to salsa dance in new york... big thumbs DOWN. haven't missed a thing these last few years i didn't manage to get here.

Bad Experience

I went to Columbus 72 for the first time Friday night with a couple of my friends. We were told we had to check our coats even though I was wearing a suit jacket, not a winter coat. I pointed out that there were tons of guys in the club wearing blazers and the security guard said he wasn't the one who let them in so it didn't matter. Then one of my friends got groped by a random guy and the guard couldn't care less. He said that because he didn't see it happen, he wasn't going to do anything. From the other reviews, it seems this place has the worst employees ever!

really great time!!!!

I have been to C72 a few times and every-time i've always had an awesome experience. The bartenders are always so friendly and the bouncers are nice as well, which is a surprise because many bouncers that i have encountered have always been a$$holes. The music is decent and the crowd is a mix. Whenever you want to have a good time, be sure to go here...

Do not go here!! Even if you live on the Upper West Side, just take the subway downtown to better places. Sketchy security guards who were incredibly rude as we walked in. Drinks were overpriced and watery, the service was slow, and the music was outdated. The management did not seem to care about anything. Had an absolutely terrible time. You're in NYC; there are so many places which are more fun!

I 1st went to this place in 10/2007, music pretty good and my girls and I often drop in on occasion.. there's a division between hip hop and spanish music / really reggaeton and Bachata mostly. If you're looking for another ""vibe"" then this isnt ur place, so look elsewhere! lol j/k Really this place has become my sure place for good music, decent crowd, and a sure bet to a good time! My girls and I have literally run into this club for a good 1 hour of fun at like 2am/ after a lousy night elsewhere (nearby). The vibe is laxed, no wolves (over anxious men), and good service. Not really a pick up joint either.... which is fine by me!!

I went to Columbus 72 and had a great time. When I arrived the bouncers were very friendly and the price of entry was very reasonable. The DJ was great and the crowed was up beat and friendly. I felt safe the whole time and am looking forward to going again!

no good!

My brother and I were there last night for a friends birthday party. My brother recently had surgery on his head and wears a scarf to hide the scar. We entered the club and paid our entrance, suddenly I see two huge bouncers grab my brother by the arm and excort him towards the exit. They told him he needed to take off the scarf or he would have to leave the club. I explained to the bouncer why he was not comfortable in doing so. The bouncer told me I would have to talk to the Manger Jimmy. Now Jimmy was so freaking rude, he asked for a medical note and said if we didnt have one he would have to leave. HOW RIDICULOUS is that?? We ended up leaving and missing the party. So if you have scars or cancer you are not allowed to go to this club wearing a scarf. PLEASE DONT GIVE IT YOUR BUSINESS!!
