Worst ever!

Tiny dry tasteless sandwich for 20 bucks... I though they was known for large great tasting sandwiches but I do not think they got the memo. Freaking $3.00 sandwich.

The Best Jewish Comfort Food Anywhere

I had seen Carnegie Deli in a lot of movies, so I always wanted to try it out. I grabbed my BFF Terry and she called a couple guys to take us there. OMG. The menu is so big that I couldn't even figure out what to have. After some desperate nudging from my hungry friends I got the pastrami on rye. I couldn't believe it was so huge, I took 3/4 home for my doggie.

Great Experience

I love this place! The Woody Allen was awesome - Huge!! Only ate 1/4 of it but was phenomenal. The cheesecake made me cry it was sooo good!

I will be back for sure on my next trip to NYC!

Awful Experence

Wow, what an awful experience. My friend and I visited Carnegie's, as recommended by a friend, to try their pie for breakfast. We wanted to split a pie for breakfast and the waitress refused to serve us. She couldn't believe we were wanting to split one pie. We tried to explain that we didn't want a whole piece of pie each, that was too much for us, but she didn't seem to care. Her biggest concern was that we spend more $. If was even more disappointing because the place was not full, so why not let us eat pie? Needless to say, we left and went across the street where we weren't questioned on how much we could eat.

Disappointing, possibly the worst meal that I have ever had

We travel to NYC on a regular basis and enjoy the off the beaten path restaurants and small neighborhood hole in the walls. Last night we decided do the opposite and give Carnegie deli a big mistake.... the matzah ball soup was tasteless and appeared to be made from a powdered mix. The Mac and cheese appeared to be pump cheez product mixed with noodles. Just to check ourselves we asked the table next to us about their half eaten soup and dry sandwich and they were disgusted too.. plus it was expensive.

On top of this the wait staff was non existent when it came to service- don't even think of sharing! The kitchen was disgusting as well. It doesn't take much to make good food unfortunately CD is making money on the name alone which is sad.

This all probably explains why Adam Sandler looks so angry in his picture on the wall!

Avoid this place for the food, go off the beaten path or hit a street vendor if you want some great tasting food in NYC. Go to CD if you want to take in some lost history of the theater yesteryears... but it will cost you! ...and they only take cash.

If you want great delis the city is full of them.

Touristy Deli

This is totally a tourist trap since because the quality of the sandwiches and the service here are just disappointing.

I don't like it. Plain and simple. They gave you A LOT OF MEAT for a $14 sandwich so compared to Katz, this is a steal. I had to split the sandwich 3 times to finish them finally.

Couple reasons why I don't like it. First of all, the meat is not exactly moist enough. It is actually a little dry surprisingly with all the fame. Secondly, the whole deli is staffed with rude male waiters monitoring you or whatever so you don't ""share"" their huge sandwiches because if you do, they are going to charge you $3. It is just ridiculous they make their dish so big and they expect you to eat it by yourself. Finally, I am just wondering why a Jewish deli is staffed by tons of non-Jewish. I actually feel like I was inside a chinese restaurant more than anything.

If you want really good pastrami sandwich, you might as well go to Katz and or This Little Piggy Had Roast Beef.

Great Deli!

Extra star for the man behind the counter who was so charming that we ended up walking out with an extra container of pickles AND a slice of cheesecake!

We decided to grab something after seeing Billy Elliot and we didn't fee up to the full dinner service thing. Enter Carnegie Deli! We made sure we had cash on hand as they don't go for credit cards there. Thus armed, we headed inside for a turkey sandwich and some chicken soup with Matzoh balls. The guy behind the counter was phenomenal at the low-key upsell, and soon we found that yeah, we really did want some extra pickles to go with that. And heck, what good deli meal would be complete without a slice of famous New York cheesecake? Strawberry, of course.

Thus loaded down with deli goodness, we trudged back to our hotel to set up a room picnic. We split the turkey sandwich and then each made two meals of our halves. Same with the soup and the pickles. The cheesecake we made a *small* dent in that night, but it ended up being dessert for lunch and dinner the following day (gotta love having an in-room fridge). Amazing grub, all of it.
