General Info:
Capitol Fishing Tackle Company was established in New York in 1897. It began in Germany circa 1845, focusing primarily on cutlery. Over fifty years time, the sharpening of surgical instruments and tailor's tools, the core of the business, gave way to a new endeavor - handmade fish hooks. When Otto Neff brought his family to New York in 1897, he opened the first of Capitol's locations on 34th Street and 3rd Avenue. His son, Charles "Charlie" Neff learned the family business here, eventually taking it over from his father in the 1930's. In 1942 the store moved to 7th Avenue between 22nd and 23rd Street. 1964 saw another move to the well-known space below the historic Chelsea Hotel where the current owner, a former employee, took the helm in 1974. Here it remained for the next 42 years, until 2006, when Capitol Fishing arrived on West 36th Street between 7th Avenue and Broadway.

Fishing Photo Shoots

I just wanted to take a moment to sing the praises of the staff at Capitol Fishing. As a wardrobe stylist I often take on jobs that are a bit out of my normal realm of knowledge. When approached by the Discovery Channel to style the ads for their show Deadliest Catch I knew I would have to familiarize myself with the wonderful world of the crab fisher!\r When I contacted Capitol Fishing in Manhattan the lovely P... view more

the most fun I ever had shopping

I went to this store for some advice and the guys in the store not only did they give it to me they showed me how to set up rigs and turned me on to a boat in boston mass for excellent codfishing. I thought the older man in store had a lot of knowledge and a joke for everything( I think he said his name was john). I would highly recomend this store to anyone that needs fishing stuff.

do not go here if you are looking for customer service

This place is the absolute worst place. customer service must not ring a bell to them. the stores manager named phil was very rude and unhelpful. there are better places where you can spend your money and get good service.

Most up to date tackle store I know

For the last 50 years the Collins family always have the best selection of the most up to date fishing tacke on the east coast. their prices are lhe lowest I have fond. their warrentees are always handled in a timley way.

Great customer service both on the phone and in person

Needed fishing rods and tackle for my two little kids and myself for a fishing derby. I was clueless. The team at Capitol Fishing was great.

The friendliest most knowledgable staff when it comes to fishing gear.

The guys at Capitol Fishing Tackle know their stuff. I was going on a Cod Fish trip up in Gloucester, MA. and needed a good Penn Cod Reel. These guys sold me one of the best Cod Penn Reels I have ever had in my hands. Their knowledge of rigs and gear is outstanding. I recommend this place to just about any angler I know. Three cheers to their staff.

Best Tackle Shop in Manhattan

Note: After 35 years they've had to move locations to W36th Street. Don't make the mistake I made and get all the way to W23rd to find out they're not there anymore. W36th Street Location is just as convenient.
