We live in the NYC area and we like food (and cook a lot) but we are not food snobs; just a 50-something couple who enjoys a very special meal from time to time. This is it. I have been lucky enough to dine here three times in recent months and now I can't believe it took me 12 years to get here.

Superb!

I have enjoyed dining at all the past Bouleys and this current Bouley is a gem of a restaurant from the delightful touch of Fuji apples displayed on shelves, their sweet fragrance pervading the air of the foyer, to the exquisite French décor of the lounge and beyond. Whether seated in the main dining room or equally charming back room, one can not help but feel relaxed and at ease in such gracious surroundings. The cuisine is French/ American and the menu is fairly extensive, offerin...view moreg and array of dishes and wine to satisfy the most sophisticated of palates. I opted for the five-course tasting menu and chose the porcini flan, which I thought was unique and delicious in addition to the venison which was cooked to perfection. For dessert I chose the chocolate frivolous - very YUMMY! Each dish was understated yet imaginative and sublime. The meal ended with petit fours and a complimentary plate of fruit. Everything was flawless, including the friendly, easygoing and professional staff and I appreciated not being rushed but just given the chance to savor everything. All in all, this latest Bouley is an outstanding restaurant.view less

Don't bother

Having been before, we booked a month in advance for Christmas Day. We arrived to chaos. No greeting, nowhere to sit or stand, and no table. We were eventually informed (when we tracked down a person) that the wait would be 1/2 an hour. But people in the full waiting area had been WAITING FOR OVER AN HOUR. We also heard the restaurant service was very slow, about 4 hours for the whole meal. People were very annoyed. We went around the corner instead to the old NY standby, where we had ...view morelovely, attentive service.

Who would want to spend their significant money for very poor service?

A new york experience

Bouley is a fine dining experience. You go there for special occassions - birthdays and anniversaries. It's expensive and beautiful but really not stuffy or snobby. Once you are in there (men, jackets are required) and everyone is all dressed up, it's just so civilized. \r
\r
So the atmosphere works, but just as importantly - the food is delcious. Filling but not too heavy, interesting and flavourful but not gimicky or odd. We just loved it. And we were doing okay till the

The wine expert was charming and we had a great night.\r

I would definitely go again. Here you get what you pay for.

The place has the most amazing decor

When you walk into this place there is fuji apples on the walls, and the aroma bursts into your face as you open the door, I have never seen something like that before, the Chef is from France or Europe, area, and he though of the idea to entice the appetite, but fuji apples help with head aches, like a pain relief Advil with out the meds. The place is lightly lite, with candles, and gorgeous artwork, I think this would be a great date spot. The Decor is mid evil times like, and the ba...view morethrooms remind me of some kind of fantasy. and the manager or owner is nice.view less

Had a good meeting

I met a client here for an hour long meeting on a Monday night at around 7pm. A few other tables were occupied. All in all, it was a great venue.

Try those pretzels, they are good.

Over-Rated

While dining at Bouley, the Food was at par at best. When you're paying 255 for a Chef's Tasting Menu and a Wine Paring, you'd expect more. The attitude of the servers is unbelievable. I pay to eat and pay your tips, treat me well is my thinking. Troy, the Maitre'D was a complete mess...Fine dining at its worst in NYC.

Is this place dead?

Went to the bouley bakery today for brunch (the tiny upstairs place that is) and found it filthy, smelly, empty and completely dead. The larger place across the street as well as the new restaurant were not welcoming: the place across the street was a buffet (cheap!) and the new restaurant didn't have a host or anybody to welcome us when I opened the door. At that point I got annoyed and left for La Pain. Oy Vey. I guess this is another recession casualty. Will miss this place!

No longer my favorite--but still very good

My Husband and I use to go to Bouley regularly recently, however, the food has not been as wonderful. In addition, the room is feeling old. They also seem to have a fly problem bc everything we have gone recently there are flys buzzing around our food--maybe it the flowers but they need to remedy this problem. The breads are still amazing as are the desserts and the service is also very good, but a little stuffy. Good food but not great; more authentic french than Daniel - for example...view more-but over all Daniel is betterview less

Love the apples

Wow!! What a treat. We had the 6 course tasting menu to celebrate our 1st Anniversary. Only one flaw, the egg and pancetta dish. It was the most amazing egg with bacon in a cream foam with white truffle (i think). But it wasn't breakfast time. Also ther was a loud woman sitting next to us, We heard her whole conversation. The best was when her date said he didn't want to be in a relationship with her. I laughed loud enough so she could hear me. The service was impecable. I was pampered...view more so much it was a pleasure paying the check. Excellent restaurant expierience.view less
