    Outstanding

    Provided by

My girlfriend took me to Barbuto for my birthday last night. We were very impressed. Try the braised rabbit or braised veal. Both were killer. The torta dessert is a perfect capper. And the chocolate pudding, which was more of a ganache, was also terrific. Just a very impressive dinner on a Sunday night. Go there and enjoy yourself.

NEVER GOT A TABLE ... Went next door instead. Useless and rude bartender.

    Provided by

Went this past Saturday. Arrived at 930pm for a 945pm reservation. Still no table after an hour and hostesses had nothing but stock phrases an an explanation. \r \r Needless to say, we left WITHOUT EATING mainly because the bartender was inattentive and rude. When I called him out on it, there was No ""I'm sorry"" nor ""This one's on me"". Frankly, he didn't seem to care one bit. All we got was $106 bill for what was arguably good wine but HORRIBLE SERVICE. We went to Tortilla Flats instead and had a great time.

    Great food, nice staff

    Provided by

I had a great dinner there with friends the other night. We ordered a bunch of thins to share and had a nice bottle of rose. The waitress was very nice and the service was great. I would go back and try their ever changing menu again.

    Great vibe, food overrated

    Provided by

Great scene and location but food surprisingly disappointing! First two visits, the food was amazing. Last two in the past 2 months were disappointing. if you are looking for great flavor and consistency, go elsewhere. Our waitress suggested the appetizers which were far less interesting and enjoyable compared to how they were described. The octopus salad was grossly overcooked (they still charged us for it eventhough we didn't touch it and returned it). The waiter recommended a wine after we described what we were looking for. Way off. Thank goodness for the next waitress who not only suggested a far better 2nd bottle of wine (in the same price range) but also took off the salad off of our bill after we asked. The pastas were superior (but not by much) to the fish dishes were not interesting whatsoever. Overall, outstanding vibe/scene; good for dates. But if you are looking for great food, I would pass immediately relative to the past!!

    Famous Roast Chicken - overrated

    Provided by

Crowded, noisey. Waited 25 minutes for the ""famous"" chicken. It came with nothing. Tender and juicy but with little taste. Overpriced for chicken. Go there if you like the scene but skip the chicken.

Inconsistent service, good food, but lousy bar service, avoid busy nights, lunches are better

    Provided by

I have been coming to Barbuto for years. Lunches - terrific service, excellent food. Dinners, forget it.\r I went on a hot Tuesday night, and though there were eight empty tables, we were told we would have to wait 30 minutes. Seemed odd. So, we went to the bar to have a drink while we waited. One bartender was there trying to service both the busy wait staff AND attend to his very packed bar. Not a good choice to aehv only one bartender on a busy night with that size bar. Who ever does scheduling should rethink summer evenings. This bartender, if in fact he was one and not some bar-back filling in... was doing a truly spectacular job at being the worst bartender ever. And I say this with sympathy because I have bartended and waitressed, and I understand that it is not an easy job. However, if you are good at what you do -ACKNOWLEDGE your custmers! We can see you are buy - but a nod, or a ""how are you? be right with you?"" goes A LONG way. Does he understand this is HIS bar, HIS customers that he should want to take care of so they come back to see him and TIP!?? Thats how it works! He is going to get better tips from his bar customers than from his waitstaff. I honestly wish I would have gotten his name, because I would have written him a personal letter. You have people at the bar with empty glasses, you have 2 people who have a half hour wait, who have now waited over 10 to 15 minutes for him to stop fiddling with the bread baskets and just ask what we would like! We finally got up and left. did not stay for dinner and went and spent our money elsewhere. Perhaps he is just the novice Tuesday night bartender - but the place was packed, and he was slowly plodding around tinkering with silverwear instead of serving his customers. \r This says as much about Barbutos training of staff as it does about this particular bartender. \r on a good note - when you can get served, the food is good.

    OK, this isn't fair...

    Provided by

Reading these reviews made me realize that only the pretentious, jaded individuals make comments on citisearch, so I thought I would be one of the few who's not the same. I have been going to Barbuto for the past 3 years, since they opened practically, and at one point I went multiple times a week. I have had AMAZING MEALS, FREINDLY SERVICE, and love every dollar I have ever spent there. I've taken business associates, friends, and relatives and have always wowed everyone who ever has gone with me. Granted, I've been there so many times, that I can't say I haven't had ONE average meal, but trust me when I say that this place IS WORTH THE TRIP. It's a shame that only the few negative people might make others believe this place isn't worth the trip. Better for me on getting a reservation, though!!!

Don't let the garage door slam you in the head

    Provided by

I was very excited to take a client to your restaurant last night. I had made a reservation at 7pm, arrived on time and we were seated out side. We ordered our cocktails and the assorted cheeses. When it arrived the waiter told us that we needed to order immediately, which I found odd considering we had not even put a piece of cheese in our mouths. We ordered as he hovered over us, and than in the next 15 minutes the busboy tried 3 times to take our cheese away, Our meals were than brought to the table while we were still on our appetizers and the waiter told us we had""10 minutes to finish our dinner"". Shocked I asked him why? And he answered that, in 10 minutes they would be closing the garage door, and we would be the only ones left on the sidewalk. In exactly 10 minutes the doors were closed {although it was a beautiful evening} and we were left on the sidewalk peering into the restaurant like two miserable outcasts, trying to eat as fast as we could. We were than told if we wanted coffee or dessert we were to move to another table-but there were none available!! I was so embarrassed and insulted, that I paid the $150.00 check and left.\r \r I eat out several nights a week with allot of my clients, and I have never experienced such rude demeaning behavior. With all the competition in New York for great dining, I will never return to your restaurant, and will let my clients and friends know that if they want to ""scarf a $150.00 meal down in 10 minutes, and have a garage door slammed in their faces -you certainly are the dining destination""! \r \r \r \r kate \r \r

Horrendous Service Mediocre Food (at best)

    Provided by

I would say it was one of the worst meals I have had in Manhattan in quite some time (regarldless of price). The waitress was incredibly rude and could not answer any questions. When I asked to have my order slightly modified I was told the kitchen gets too angry when she asks. I then spoke to the manager who was equally unhelpful. I was served raw/undercooked fish, someone else got fatty hangar steak. When I showed my fish to the waitress, she agreed it was undercooked and then was ready to walk away. When I asked her to take it away, she did not apologize or offer to bring me something else. We were left for large periods of time without anyone offering drinks, bread, dessert or other typical services. I had eaten there once before and things were slightly better but things have deteriorated considerably.

    This Food is Fresh!

    Provided by

my boyfriend and i recently dined at Barbuto for the first time and boy will we be back! not only is the ambiance cool and casual (it was really a garage!) but the food is fresh and fantastic...not one thing out of season or suffoccating under some heavy, un-necessary sauce...just delish! for something really satisfying, try the gnocchi...so soft and nicely browned and served with a duck ragu on our visit. the winelist is also very well thought out with a great range of prices, and although a bit noisey as the night got busier, it really made us feel like we were at ""the spot."" we can't wait to go back...

Poor Food, Really Bad Service, Noisey and Inattentive, Avoid it

    Provided by

The service was the worsed ever. Wine list was quite good, however, few things are available. We had to order wine 3X's before they had one available. Bread was stale. Appetizer arrived cold. Besides cold, it was poorly cooked and presented. Waiter suggested dessert then, because he forgot to order our dinners, so we had to wait 45 minutes for a very mediocre dinner, and it wasn't exactly what was described on the menu. There wasn't a green in sight for an entre that was Stripe Bass with Greens. The chicken was just from the oven with nothing at all special. It was just a really bad restaurant, with poor service, including the hostess, less than average food. Go to your local Italian Trattoria, and you will get much better food, and you will not have to put up with the homeless in the area that look in the window while you are eating the bad food that arrives late and cold. Also, it is overcrowded and noisey so don't expect to be able to converse with your date. If you have a reservation at least 2 weeks before, you should not be stuck in the bar next to the door.

    Very Bad experience

    Provided by

We've been driving by Barbuto for a while now wondering how it is. We finally went. We won't go back. They asked us to sit at the bar for about 20 minutes while they checked to see if they had a table. No problem. We know that sometimes without a reservation, it can be hard to accomodate walk-in customers. But the place was about 10% full. Literally 20-25 tables open. They seat us. I sit down and my chair has to be close the table because if I move one inch back I would bump into the customers seated behind me. We bumped each other no lesss than five times during dinner. When dinner was served, one of the entrees was not what we ordered. We ask to have what we ordered. They said no problem and they also insisted we have what they brought us by mistake.\r What they brought by mistake was the special. The pork Loin. It was ALL fat. Two, maybe three bites of actual meat. $24 dollars for fat. The other entrees that we ordered and the rest of dinner was good, although very confining due to the tables being extremely close together. A typical NY thing, but worse. The bill arrived and we paid, left a $30 tip for a $141 bill. The next day, we realized that they charged us $24 for the extra entree. We were going to let that go until I got my Credit card statement and found out that they charged my credit card $170 instead of $141. An extra $29 dollars. Now dinner cost us an extra $54 dollars. We called and so far nothing has changed. If it does, I will correct this review. Til then.....

    Free bottle of wine

    Provided by

We found this from the New York Cheap Eats article. We made a reservation for 6:30 or 6 we couldn't remember. We got their at 6:30 and were seated right away. The car garage look was very cool. Started off with an array of cheeses, absolutely delicious! We had 2 rounds of bread (a bit stale but overall yum), 2 bottles of wine, the bass, and I had the lamb steak. I have never had lamb before but I will definitly try it again. The waitress was nice and gave us some fun places to try after we had dinner. The best part: they forgot to charge us for one of the bottles of wines. Now thats what I call Cheap Eats!!

    Probably not worth the trip

    Provided by

As I had initially requested a 7:00 reservation and was told they didn't have anything at that time, I was surprised to find the restaurant pretty empty when we arrived for the earlier 6:30 reservation. Also couldn't help but notice the dozen or so empty tables when we left around 8:15. But on to the food. The pork chop was very tasty, however, $22 was a bit excessive for one small chop. Two chops would have been a more reasonable portion. They also went a little overboard dimming the lights--we were suddenly sitting in the dark. My friend thought the pasta dish was too peppery. She also couldn't help noticing the staff in the kitchen munching away and then licking their fingers clean....times like those when we realize that an open kitchen might be too much information.

Worst experience ever! Bad service, overpriced!

    Provided by

Went there recently for early dinner (5:30pm or so). Hostess informed us that the menus are being printed and it wont be long. The place was pretty much empty. Nevertheless, it took awhile to get any service. Finally, the waitress showed up, not paying attention to what I asked. People from the kitchen came out put a ladder right next to our table and started changing a ight bulb (3 men changing 1 bulb); lights started flickering, then they knocked out the circuit, so the lights went out. Then they decided to move us to another table. My small serving of pasta was ok, but certainly not worth 17$, and maybe 20 cents worth of boiled pasta, neither was my boyfriend's chicken, which didnt even come with any garnish. The waitress was a bit spaced out. We had to wait to get water, etc. Just bad, would not recommend!

    Great Food, Horrible Service

    Provided by

Dined there last night Was seated promptly Upon being seated our drink order was taken and our app order as well, the server told us that she must wait til the full order was taken before it could be punched in b/c the kitchen is swamped. (Though the cooks were standing around looking at each other) After she took full order, brought out drinks but no apps, asked if she remembers we ordered proscuitto, she says ""yes i punched it in before"", as we finish talking, I can see her punch it into the machine. The proscuitto comes with BURNT bruschetta. I ordered pasta as 1st, and the pork chop as a 2nd. They arrived at the same time, she admitted to messing up the sequence, no apology. I would love to go back to eat, but not if the service continues that way.

    non pretentious

    Provided by

despite the fact that some of the people who I met when I dined there were slightly ""expectant"" the staff was very courteous. The food tasted really good, the baccala was great and thier pork ribs were even better. I like it that much more when the waiter explained that they deal with only local organic small farms. Everything was fresh. My son had their childrens pasta and ate it ALL! WoW. IDO recommend and I will go back.
