Great Lunch!

I joined some work associates for a lunch meeting at Armani Ristorante. The entire staff was very knowledgeable, polite and friendly. The meal was timed perfectly, and we were never interrupted. I enjoyed the tagliolin in a pomodoro sauce. The portion is perfect for lunch: not too heavy!

Aperitivo

If you are looking for a Thursday night treat Armani Ristorante offers a great aperitivo! The complimentary zucchini chips are delicious and the bar menu is affordable. If you chose to order from the bar menu you have two size options: appetizer or full portion. I found this to be very practical especially if you are with a small group. The bartender was very friendly and most of all helpful. The Armani Martini drink he suggested was magnificent.

Hidden Gem!

Coming from LA, I was looking for a destination that really had the NY feel to it. The concierge at my hotel recommended Armani Ristorante as a true hidden NY gem. The restaurant is on the 3rd floor of the store on 5th avenue. If you get there early for lunch you can request a table overlooking 5th. The view and energy coming up from the street is amazing. I loved watching the taxi cabs zip down 5th Avenue. I ordered the classic Veal Milanese and it was the best I have ever had. I am telling all of my friends to dine here.

Mediocre cuisine, over priced, shabby service

I must say that I used to dine regularly at Armani Cafe, which was fabulous but unfortunately, closed quite a number of years ago. I had high expectations when returning to this supposedly higher end version which boasted a highly rated Italian chef, excellent service and top notch food. What we found, instead, was distracted servers who just couldn't get it right, sub par food and sky high prices.

The server informed us that the lemonade was canned - a restaurant which carries the name of Armani doesn't have fresh squeezed lemonade? For shame! An item readily available at the Jersey shore board walk was unavailable at this supposedly high end establishment. We proceeded to order the wine, which was acceptable. The octopus appetizer was average at best, but by no means exceptional. Way too cold, and obviously refrigerated already dressed in the lemon vinaigrette. The Caprese salad was bland, with no offering made of extra virgin olive oil and salt and pepper that was so desperately required. Moving on to a tagliolini pasta with fava cream and pancetta, which arrived as tagliolini with calamari...I told the server it was incorrect and he took the plates back. What arrived next was a tagliolini dish that was so over loaded with pancetta that I was drinking bottled water well into the remainder of the evening. The worst part was that I clearly asked for one pasta to be split between myself and my companion, but was then billed for two pastas at full price - an astronomical $24. per plate! Again, distracted waiters with very little sense of the client before them. The final insult was while we would've enjoyed an espresso at the end of our meal, we were told that the coffee machine was broken! An Italian restaurant of a certain caliber with the name Armani and no coffee available - shame again!

A final word of advice - stick to the fashion. Forget the food! Mr. Armani should stop fiddling and realize that his restaurant needs to be tended to before others wipe the smoke from their eyes and realize they are being taken for a ride.
