My friend and I were looking for a new spot to turn into our favorite place-- and we accidentally saw this little adorable French bistro, right under our noses... the place offers an excellent & well presented food and wine, the ambiance is warm & relaxed but still very professional, and the greatest thing is that they didn't put their sign up yet--so you could turn this into your secret under-ground meeting place, or bring a date to a guaranteed enjoyable evening without sharing it with a noisy crowd... the prices are fair, and reservations are accepted but not required..their one weakness was only accepting cash-- but I was promised that this would be fixed very soon..
all those cafe's, deli's and supermarkets get all their baked goods trucked in. This is the rare treat!! They not only make it from your basic flour, butter, eggs, milk and fresh yeast but they bake it right there in the store. Right there before your eye come out succulent danish, mouth-watering croissants, delicious muffins, and the best pastries. And the cookies-the shelves are full of them higher than your head- each with it's own flavor. Oh yes, birthday cakes, wedding cakes and holiday stuff galor. Don't forget this is local american manufacturer who must be supported-the neighborhood demands it! OVER 80 YEARS OF GREAT BAKING- JUST TRY IT FOR YOURSELF.
Had dinner at Nougatine on 12/23 and it was the perfect start to our week in NY. We had the 5 course tasting menu - at $68 pp it was a bargain for what we got. Started with amuse of this cute little fried cheese ball and tomato soup. Next was tuna tartare, then Foie Gras served on toast with this amazing meyer lemon jam. Main courses included a red snapper and beef tenderloin. Dessert was a sampler of apple tart, chocolate cake (with an ouzzy center), apple cider sorbet. Great service and ambiance overlooking the park. Would definitely go back.
