COMPLETELY HORRIBLE, MISERABLE, UNPROFESSIONAL experience with SAF. I went in and paid to have my cat spayed and things seemed fine. Well a month later she became pregnant again. Wow, how does that happen? Well they seemed to tell me that my cat had "TWO UTERUSES". Well ok my cat seems to be a "Freak of Nature". At this point I am in college and working hard to pay for anything and I had 4 kittens running around my apt. tearing it up when I thought I had my cat SPAY...view moreED. I spoke to the owner who is a very UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE WOMAN who proceded to explain to me that I had to pay for the spaying of my cat again and it was my responsibility to find a good home for my 4 new kittens. At this point I look to my right and see a cage with 4 cute kittens in it with a sign saying "ADOPT FREE KITTENS". I tried really hard to contain myself and asked another rude woman working at the front window with the owner listening on, "How could I possibly manage to get my new kittens in that cage to be adopted? "Well sir", they said, "Those kittens are sick and we cannot add any new kittens in the cage with them." GREAT, I have to pay again for her to be spayed, which I would have thought the VET WOULD HAVE NOTICED IN SURGERY THAT MY FREAKING CAT HAD TWO UTERUSES, "REALLY". Well as I was asking, the very rough looking female clerk who seemed to act like I was completely wrong and wanted to have a physical confrontation with me. "Can I pay in installments? I really don't have the money to pay for this all at once? At this point I am very angry and am not sure what to do, so I say trying hard to stay calm. "I'm sorry Miss I just saw your previous customer talking about paying a portion of his bill to you today and he would pay the remainder of his bill later." She says aggressively, "Well sir he is an old customer and we used to allow that but don't any longer" It really takes me alot to get angry and this ANGERED ME, so I walked out and never returned. DONOT EVER TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS HORRIBLE VET!!!!!!!!!view lessShare Review

- Southern Animal Foundation would like to take this opportunity to welcome you, your family, and your special family member to our website. As you continue to browse and explore our website, it is our hope that you will learn more about our dedication to your family and the quality veterinary medicine and service we provide. Founded in 1995 by two devout animal lovers, Anne Bell and Paul Berry, Southern Animal Foundation has grown from a grass roots organization to a full service, non-profit animal hospital. SAF rescues and treats companion animals from all over our state, as well as Mississippi. The mission of SAF is to eliminate the need for euthanasia as a means to control the epidemic of animal overpopulation in the greater New Orleans and surrounding areas. The clinic is one of the city's only low cost, non-profit animal hospitals. In 2002, fire destroyed our building, but we have come back bigger and better. It is our goal to give every pet, owned or abandoned, the chance at life they deserve. We work with regional as well as national rescue groups to ensure that every cat and dog that comes into our clinic gets the medical care they deserve.

I have been taking my pet to SAF for the last five years. The service hasn't been the best but I thought they were cheapest in the Uptown area. I usually arrive 10-15 minutes before my appointment time but didn't today because there is usually a wait to be seen anyways. However, today I had an appointment for 4:30 and checked in at 4:28 and was still waiting an hour after. When I asked if they had forgotten about me I was told I was skipped for the 3:30 appointment because I was late w...view morehich did not even make sense and I wasn't late. I walked out and will never go back. They shouldn't over book if they cannot handle the business. I'd rather drive out of my way for better prices and a better business.view lessShare Review
SAF was recommend to me by friends who couldn't believe how inexpensive they were and I've now recommended it to other people who are as impressed as I am. I've been to both of the vets who are excellent. The staff was very polite (I got to witness their handling of a local nut who accused them of being liars because they're supposed to be non-profit). No, they're not free, Mr. Degenerate New Orleans Cretin, but they are non-profit and they are the cheapest clinic in town. I brought my kitten to get her taken care of and after they told me that it will cost me $109.00 which I PAID right then and there, they told me to come back at 12 noon to pick her up. I showed up at noon and the lady at the front desk (Ann) told me I could not have my kitten back. She then told me that she didn't think I took care of my cat. That's why I brought her to a SECOND vet in the first place. I told her I wanted my cat back and she called the police and then FORCED me to sign...view more my baby over. I probably feed every cat in the Uptown area out of my pocket and out the kindness of my heart....Now why would I NOT take care of MY kitten and I take care of everyone elses????\r
I'm very unhappy with this place and I don't think anyone should have their ""child"" taken away. Those people are so rude and heartless!! I can not sleep now, wondering what is going to happen to my kitten.\r
If anyone can suggest any help or ideas please feel free to comment.\r
I would not take my pet anywhere else for health care. Both doctors and office staff are the most caring, knowledgable, and friendly I have experienced during the 6 years of my pet's life. I would trust NO ONE else with my dog. I have complete trust and faith in these people and have had no experience to make me feel otherwise. I can tell that caring for animals is not just a job for this staff, but a true commitment.Provided by Citysearch
Well. My dog had some serious procedures done to her . Dr Lamarsh was taking care of her not once did he come talk to me about what to do about her after care . the office staff was telling me how to care for her I didnt believe a word they said I'm glad i didn't they were giving me completely different advice than Dr Jackson . So before yall give out advice at least know what you are talking about .The staff is so rude its really sad if you hate your job that much get another one . The lady at the desk i think her name is ann is a witch take off the w and add a b. She talks to ppl like they are beneath her now i just learned your daughter owns the place she needs to firs you , You are a bitter old wench who needs an attitude adjustment. Dear viewer, I recently moved to New Orleans in late July so as a pet owner I had trials and errors trying to figure out which animal hospital might provide MORE than adequate care. For me it isn't about the $cost of services but about the education and the sincere care my dog should be entitled to receive. At the time I had one gorgeous Caucasian Ovtcharka and one maine coon cat. They had been in contact with flees from the courtyard of this fancy overly priced place I rent from. ...view more I had given them the normal dosage of anti flee preventatives but it did not work properly and I brought my mountain dog in to see the doctor so he in a very firm and strict voice encouraged me to hire an exterminator to spray all areas of this home and let the pets stay at that facility till the toxic spraying should go away. After this advice one month later my dog had deteriorated even more , same skin condition and he was biting holes in his fur and losing weight even though I fed him four large bowls per day and my own dinners as well. The doctor prescribed the same ritual, encouraged me to use more sprays (thank GOD I didn't) and asked me rather accusingly why my dog was losing so much weight. He told me to double his intake of food and sent us on our way, On Mardis Gras my dog's gums turned all white and most of the vets were closing so I had to take him to an emergency vet clinic and three days later he was given hemoglobin transfusions, After a second transfusion at another clinic he died and his cancer had been undiagnosed by this clinic. People please if you deeply love your pet do not go through these doors! My dog was only five and I received a postcard in the mail reminding me to take my dog here for his shots?? I called this hospital up very calmly and explained they need not send more reminders since my dog had died of cancer three weeks ago, This clinic had been contacted by Meterie animal hospital when he was being given transfusions yet this clinic never called me to see if Troika was okay? The technician who answered the phone today was cold, uncaring, unsympathetic and DEFENSIVE, SHE SAID oh you brought this dog in for a skin condition. I told her how much Dr. Lamarsh pointedly asked me why my dog was losing weight. I told her to call Metarie Small animal hospital if she wanted to inquire about what happened to my dog but no she was cold, superior and unapologetic. I had received sympathy cards from the staff of Metarie Small Animal Hospital and from Canine Connection where my dog enjoyed boarding stays but this staff here???? NOTHING!!!! People they don't care about animals here. I saw positive feedback and reviews that just don't match the poor treatment my beautiful dog received. My heart is broken and as an animal lover do not go here if your pet is seriously ill or shows signs of losing weight. In fact when I googled anorexia in dogs that is the very first sign of cancer, Please know I write this review deeply depressed that I had this problem with this clinic. Cancer is lethal when it is not caught on time and this clinic saw my beautiful dog four times in two months! They just wanted money --they did not care to see this dog get better or suggest testing to check for the most obvious disease. Since I am not a vet I truly did not know the signs but a vet should know what to look out for and what tests to run if they had had proper schooling or if they truly cared.view lessProvided by Citysearch
I took my eight-year-old Corgi here for the first time today. I had a good experience overall. We didn't have to wait too long to be seen. The have a separate entrance for dogs and cats, which I think is *genius*.
Dr. Lamarsh really impressed me. He is obviously very smart and handled my baby very well. He had to give her a shot and clip her nails, neither of which she enjoys, but he was a pro. He asked a lot of questions about her eating, drinking, eliminating, etc., and ...view morereally seemed to care about my dog. The tech was also very nice and helped put my dog at ease.
I've never been financially responsible for another animal so I'm not exactly sure how SAF compares price-wise. It was $25 for the visit, then $25 for the heartworm test, and another $70 for six months of heartworm prevention which all sounded about right. $8.50 for nail trim is a bargain compared to what we go through trying to do it at home! We had to get a couple more meds for a skin allergy that she has developed, and after price-checking on the internet it looks like the prices were marked up a little bit but not a ton. To me that's worth the hassle of going to a pharmacy or trying to order online.
The invoice very clearly explained all the charges, and also had reminders on when she needs her next shots and such. Also the directions on the medications were written out very clearly and the vet tech went over them with me.view less
I have a very difficult animal to care for, as he has many allergies, skin infections, joint problems etc. I started taking him here on the recommendation of a friend, and although they never managed to fix his problems, no one ever has, so I do not hold that against them. I was generally happy with their services until this Thanksgiving when I decided to board him for 6 nights. He has been boarded several other places before and has never had any problems, but I decided to board him a...view moret his vet just so that if something did happen, he would have care right away. \r
When he was returned to me, his snout was raw, red and scabbed (when he gets stressed, he tends to bash his head against walls) and was covered in urine, from head to toe. I put him in my tub and hosed him from the neck down to his tail, and yellow just flowed off of him, to the point that I had to shampoo him twice. In addition to all this, I discovered three open sores on his legs, and he was being extremely skiddish, falling off my bed when i went to touch him because he backed away so quickly.\r
I called this morning to complain and was told that maybe next time I should just have someone house sit. I went over details of his problems, and was told that this is normal. I have had my dog for 5 years and boarded him regularly and he has never been returned in this condition. Essentially my dog was let to lay in his own urine, and became so stressed that he gnawed 3 sores into his leg and bashed his nose till it became a wound, and nothing appears to be done about it at all. If this is what they consider ""normal"" i will NOT be bringing my dog back. I am VERY unhappy about his treatment.view less
