Established in 1979, K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen is a full-service restaurant that provides sit-down dining services for more than 200 guests. I'm not sure about the lady who rated the experience a single star, and had her food served on foam plates...My family had a devine experience at lunch one day as we walked the French Quarter. Our family of 4 ate for $95 w/tip and had bronzed chicken, bronzed pork chops, ceaser salad, turtle soup, and some shrimp enchiladas...everything was great. Recently a friend and I were in New Orleans for the day on business. We were ready to leave when we decided to stay long enough to get dinner somewhere. Neither of us had ever been to K-Paul's and I had wanted to go for a while.\r \r We arrived at about 7:20 on a Wed night without reservations. We were told we would probably have to wait until 8:30 to be seated. We both ordered beers at the bar and talked for while. She returned a short while later with place settings and two baskets of bread. All of it was very good but I loved the Blackstrap Molasses and Pecan muffins. The Jalapeno and Cheddar was a close second.\r \r I ordered a cup of the Chicken and Andouille Gumbo and Blackened Drum with mashed potatos and veggies. My associate ordered the House Salad with Danish Blue Cheese Dressing and something called Chicken Panattere (sp?) with veggies and jambalaya.\r \r The gumbo was the best I've ever had. The Dark Roux was not burned but had a very deep and rich flavor that anchored the gumbo and complimented the other ingredients. My friend claimed the blue cheese dressing elevated a very good fresh salad to something extraordinary.\r \r My fish was the best blackened fish I ever had and one of the best fish dishes ever. It came topped with crab meat and a pat of flavorful crawfish/chipotle butter. The veggies were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The mashed potatos were a sinful concoction of potatos, butter, and cream. They were perfect with the fish and great for sopping up the butter that flowed off the fish and onto the plate.\r \r The chicken dish was flavorful and well seasoned rounds of breaded and fried chicken rounds. The jambalaya accompanying it was also superb.\r \r I didn't get dessert but his came with a choice and he got the Blood Orange Cupcake on the waitresses recommendation. It too was wonderful.\r \r All in all we had a superb dining experience. The only quibble I might have is the time between our appetizers and the main course. It was only a matter of a few minutes and the food was so good when it came that I can forgive them for that.\r \r I'm not sure what to make of the less than stellar reviews but I can heartily recommend K-Paul's and will definitely return.view less
This person obviously didn't know what type of food they were getting into when they went into K-Pauls. The Gordon Ramsey bit is just too much. I bet they didn't realize they were being rude but I have no doubt that they were just that. If Gordon Ramsey went into K-Pauls he would rave about the food because he has a trained palate and can recognize good cooking from many different regions. K-Pauls sets the standard for refined high end Creole-Cajun in New Orleans. After Paul Prudhomme'...view mores popularity died out and his restaurant was no longer inundated with tourists he settled in and developed quite a following with locals. The food has been consistent and fabulous. I'm not saying that it's impossible to get something there that misfires occasionally but it's obvious from this post that these people were clueless and foreigners from Scotland that weren't going to be satisfied with anything they got. It's also telling that most of the words in the post are misspelled just like another not so good review a little further down the page. The poster also looks to be overweight if that is her in that picture accompanying the post. She most likely has a palate that is tuned to fast food and quanity and is not able to realize when she is eating a good meal. Just give her a half dozen cheeseburgers and a bucket o fries from one of the burger chains and she is fat and happy.view less
After seeing Chef Paul sitting in the French Quarter on his electric scooter, I decided to finally try his restaurant. I showed up last night and he was there, as was his head chef. We were told there would be a 45 minute wait and to make reservations for the next night (which was tonight). Tonight we showed up and were seated promptly. It included a delicious chicken noodle soup, my entree, bread pudding, and a glass of wine (of which I was given a large selection to choose from). My flounder was good and our waitress was helpful, hospitable, and told me that indeed they used Magic seasonings in the dishes. I didn't think too highly of the bread pudding. Terjugue's and Willie Mae's Restaurant has much better bread pudding. The basket of assorted breads were great, albeit I was not fond of the molasses mini muffin. I also enjoyed the trio of singers who sang a song in Double Jeopardy that serenaded us at our table. We sat in the back room, which was cooler than the other. On April the 4th 2009, I and my family went into K-Paul's restaurant only because it did not have a line to wait in. We walked and took in the atmosphere and automatically set our standards high for service/food but truly was disappointed because while standing waiting to be seated the bartender was not helpful at all in telling us that we were to order up front, deli styled, so while ordering we were complaining and nippy with each other because were were starving but weren't absolute...view morely mean to the bartender though she wasn't helpful in explaining to my aunt or my grandmother what was in certain dishes, my aunt and grandma were visiting from Scotland and were unfamiliar with some of the food. Once we received our food we weren't happy to be served on foam plates and airplane cutlery, it was ridiculous how much it cost for a CAN of coke , 2 dollars. Also my mother pointed out that the chef or staff weren't wearing any gloves the chef then proceeded to talk about my mother behind her back, saying calling her mean names. As for the food my aunt's egg plant lasagna was laying in a pool a grease, my cousin's potato salad was a glop of pureed eggs and potato, my dad's red beans and rice was tasteless, my Cole slaw wasn't even Cole slaw it was a salad. When we complained to the manager he was very rude and wouldn't hear us out he told us we consumed the food so we weren't entitled to a refund which we weren't even asking for. He said we were rude to the staff, frustrating the bartender to the point of walking off the floor. Not once acknowledged our complaints and walking away but he was going to argue with us. My aunt finally gave in to telling him that we are related to Gordon Ramsey, we don't flaunt it around or anything because it is a shameful thing just to get good service or to be listened to it wasn't until after she let him know that we are related to Gordon Ramsey that he listened to my aunt's complaints of the food and my aunt actually told him how to do lasagna. So just to let you know no one in my family is ever going back to K-Paul's and I will tell people of my bad experience because that is the type of costumer I am when I have really bad experience or really good experience I let people know I spread the word around. \r \rview less
After leaving Houston to escape Hurricane Ike, we were excited to treat ourselves to Paul Prudhomme's cuisine. I had a delicious chicken dish which was lightly breaded and fried, served with wonderful jambalaya. The whole meal was very good. My wife, who grew up in La. had the blackened baby drum. Native New Orleanian: Best creole cooking in town. Delicious basket of various homemade bread served immediately. Great place to celebrate anything!! If the restaurant is made aware of you celebrating something, a three piece brass band comes to your table to play a couple of songs just for you!!

This place is quite lively and was perfect for a fun night out. I was with a rather large group and the consensus was that the blackened Louisiana drum fish was the best item we ordered....simply divine! I had the shrimp etouffee which was very good, but after a week of fine dining in the city it's got some stiff competition. The turtle soup was great, as was the jambalaya. Definitely a good place to go in the city, with sizable portions, and it was perfect for our large group.
