Good Paella, the rest not so much

The food is alright and the place is obviously a draw for the wine drinker. The tapas at Rio Mar, are far better, and have a much bigger selection. The seafood paella is probably the best dish, however, you're only going to get two mussels. We tried grilled calamari, ceviche, crabmeat tropicale and garlic mushrooms. As I said, the tapas weren't special. The mushrooms are easy to make and much better at Morton's. FYI, they also serve beer & wine too. With corking fees and bread c...view moreharges, our bill was about $80 for two.view less

Great find after a long day

The day we went to Lola's had been spent driving around Gulf Port looking for my father-in-law's favorite gumbo place. Alas, the gumbo place had been blown away by Katrina, and we ended up at Cracker Barrel. Mind you, it is not hard to do better than Cracker Barrel, but Lola's really turned the day around. The sangria was very good, and the bread brought to our table was delicious. We went ahead and paid for a second round. I had the Andalusian almond soup, which was a unique deli...view moreght--chilled, thick, creamy, with the flavor of raw almonds and sea salt, garnished with sliced red grapes. I've been craving it ever since. The paella was good, although it was a bit sparse on the meat. I still had leftovers, though. The place was tiny, and a bit loud, but fun. Our waiter was very professional and courteous. A place I'd like to stop by next time I'm in town.view less

not bad, but not a value

id heard a lot about this place, so we checked it out: drinks, app, entree. service was good. the sangria is very good, especially at $10 a bottle. id go again for that. app was fine, but the entree -- $16 for paella? $18 for ""seafood"" -- i put this in quotes because our ""seafood"" conisted of two (2) musells, four (4) bites of fish, and a few very small shrimp. for almost 20 bucks! im sorry, but paella IS RICE. why so expensive? \r

also, they CHARGE FOR BREAD. but they do not

and no credit cards. lame. its a digital society, baby. get with the times. \r

so... i thought the beverage was good, and the service was good, but the value...bad.

great food, laidback atmosphere

Before I lived in New Orleans, we always made a point to come to Lola's when we visited. Now I live down the street from it and it's still just as fantastic. Their crabmeat appetizer is excellent. The pork is Huge and the best I've had anywhere. And their lamb chops, though a bit of a splurge are worth every penny. They have their liquer licence now (beer and wine only) but you can still BYOB, though their wine prices are cheap compared to many places. We haven't had to wait very long ...view morelately either, though sitting outside on a nice night drinking your wine from plastic cups is part of Lola's charm.view less

love their pasta

This place has a great atmosphere and I usually get the veggie pasta dish. It's expensive, but they serve a yummie lentil soup and bread with it. And the desserts are pretty good as well. It doesn't have alot of room though.

Delicious and garlicky

The food is fantastic. I had the seafood paella. We also had a couple different appetizers - garlic mushrooms, garlic shrimp, and some lime-soaked fish thing that was also yummy. Everything is really garlicy - even the butter for your bread has garlic - but its great. It used to be BYOB but now they have a liquor lisence - I recommend the sangria.

We brought 9 people on a Monday and had no problem getting a table. It is small though. We were all dressed a bit nicely but you do

Worth the trip - great food!

If you get to Lola's 1/2 hour before opening you won't have a wait. We got there at opening and were about the last table to get filled before line started. The food is delicious! The smells of all the dishes cooking were amazing and a delight. Our favorites were garlic soup, gazpacho, and really great salads. You have to try it!

Garlic for days

If you don't like garlic, go somewhere else! HOWEVER, if you do like garlic, you have reached heaven. The garlic shrimp appetizers, pungent aiolli, paella, pork loin, ceviche...everything here is good. Try to leave room for dessert, chances are you'll be taking home leftover paella...twisted up in a swan-shaped sculpture of aluminum foil! Try to arrive early or plan to wait. After everyone orders, send someone from your group across the street for wine suggestions from Whole Foods. ...view more FUNKY atmosphere and LOUD.view less
