I know it's Carnival but...... Last night was awful. Walking in the door I got my head bitten off by a waiter carrying a tray of drinks. The same waiter, on our way out, slammed the door in our faces. Service was super slow - we waited nearly an hour between first and second courses, and there were only about 4 other tables in the restaurant. Worst - the food all tasted the same: pepper. The red fish, the crab, vegetables. Didn't matter what you ordered, tasted like pure pepper. The vegetables were so over-peppered that you couldn't tell the difference between the cauliflower, broccoli and brussells sprouts. And yes, I generally like a lot of pepper. But I want to taste the actual food too. There are way too many other great restaurants in this city to subject myself to this again. I have been there for brunch and loved it. It is a shame dinners are such a mess!!!

Excellent all around, food was simply the best, staff and service wonderful, restaurant and atmospher outstanding. We were a party of four out to celebrate a birthday, we all ordered diffrent types of meals and drinks, all was excellent. Wait time was about 35 minutes, but was worth it. We will be back!

Worth the wait. Very popular Sunday brunch, the best Bloody Mary (I had regular, extra spicy is an option). The ""Debris & eggs"" is delicious pulled pork with perfectly poached egg over a honey biscuit covered in a Demi-glaze hollandaise (a lighter rendition).

My husband ordered shrimp and grits covered in a light gravy.

Don't let the simplicity of these dishes fool you, each ingredient is seasoned and compliments the others.
The flavor of the gravy was exceptional, the consistency of the grits enhanced the flavor and texture, the shrimp were individually seasoned, fresh, and delicious on their own.

Exceptional food quality and flavor. Go patient (wait 30 min for 2, food to arrive 30 min), arrival time 11:30am on Sunday. Drinks are served quickly, attractive patio/porch waiting area. Umbrella-covered outdoor seating area.

Don't waste your time

I went to Dante's Kitchen once for brunch. The food was just okay and was incredibly over priced. The staff is not very friendly and overall service is really poor. I couldn't eat for three days afterwards. I'm not so sure it was because the food was necessarily bad, but I think maybe it was just overly greasy. For the prices I expect more. I'll never go back. Everytime I think of Dante's Kitchen, the word that comes to mind is gross.

Won't go back

I don't understand why people rave about this place. I've been a few times and was not impressed but decided to give it another chance b/c of the convenient location. We had a party of five for brunch. Two of our orders were completely wrong so all of our food came out at different times. The portions were small. The BLTE (bacon lettuce tomato and egg) sandwich had TWO pieces of bacon and TWO slices of tomato. Incredibly ordinary food that was over-priced. When given a bill with a 25% gratuity added, we paid the bill only to be stopped at the door and told that we were given the wrong bill and that more money and a gratuity were required. We paid the correct bill plus 20% tip with a promise never to return. We were embarrassed by the manager's behavior and the way this was handled in front of our guests. Don't waste your time (and money.)

New Orleans fare at its finest

Dante's is one of New Orleans's absolute best restaurants. The shrimp and grits is to die for and you really can't go wrong with of the entrees. My favorite is the gulf fish amandine. I've eaten here at least 10 times and have never had a bad meal. And the staff is friendly and accomodating. If you live in New Orleans, you must try. If you are visiting, stop at Dante's after a streetcar ride to the Riverbend.

One of the best meals I've ever had!

I went back to New Orleans to visit my boyfriend and we were looking to go out one night and have a really nice dinner. A friend recommended Dante's Kitchen; for some reason I had never eaten there despite having lived in NOLA for years. Oh my god, it was amazing. From the soup to the molasses spoon bread to the scallops to the pecandine fish (not amandine because there were no almonds, but the subbed pecans tasted divine.) I especially want to point out how fabulous the service was, though. I make my living as a waitress so I am very attuned to the details of service when I go out to eat, and I have to say, the young chap was one of the best servers I've ever had the pleasure to be waited on by! The host was also very kind and personable and professional, as were all the other servers and runners who stopped by our table. Our waiter's name was Chris - go visit him and eat this delicious food and you will NOT be disappointed!!!

A Riverbend Gem!

My general impression of this place is that the dishes without oil (or with little oil) are fabulous and the ones with, or that are fried, are way too heavy. I've had several steamed, grilled and pan-seared fish dishes and found them amazingly light but full of flavor. As for the plates served during two brunches I had there (one chorizo dish, one omelette), both were swimming in oil and didn't have the delicacy and savor of the dinner experiences. But either way, the service is consistent(ly good) and the ambience, indoor or out, is casual elegance. As this review attests, I've gone back many times, and will continue to do so.

Not to be missed!

We visited Dante's Kitchen for the Sunday Brunch. No musical accompaniment, but the food and presentation and service more than offset this popular feature of NO sunday brunch competition. I enjoyed a blackened shrimp in red eye gravy, served over grits. If any place here in Michigan served this taste treat, I would drive there EVERY Sunday. My mate ordered the Andoulle Omelette, with Shrimp. Another awesome breakfast. The dining rooms are bright and charming during the day, probably highly romantic by night glow. We'll visit again when we return to the Crescent City.

Best Kept Secret

Co-owners Lee and Eman (chef) are fantastic hosts and talented restauranteurs. This place is a GEM. The flavors and preparation are exquisite and they make you feel like family. Thanks, guys!
