I recently purchased a home with a 70 foot Cottonwood tree placed in the rear corner of my yard. After the leaves fell from the tree, it became apparent that the tree had termite damage and many of the limbs were in very poor condition. This was my introduction into the expenses of a first time homeowner. I did the dutiful shopping of companies to compare prices, services, quality etc. I ended up shopping 8 companies 3 of which immediately made me cringe. While the majority of the companies were professional and didn't make me suspicious of their claims, Louisiana Tree Company was the most impressive, most competitive, and had the greatest customer service of all the companies. Immediately upon speaking with Robert, it was apparent he takes his craft extremely seriously. He quickly provided to me his arborist information, he had his insurance provide me a copy of his policy the next day, and he encouraged me to inquire into his BBB information to verify the quality of service his company has provided (BBB A+ rating). Despite that I work odd hours and couldn't contact Robert during standard 8-4 hours, he maintained immediate response times and was extremely polite. Despite my gut feeling that I had my company, I completed my remaining quote inquiries to provide every company to provide their bid. This is where Louisiana Tree Company impressed me most. While I had companies providing significantly higher quotes, there were a couple of companies (who I would love to smear on a certain level but I will let their tactics speak for themselves) who would throw out a crazy low number and then try to feel me out for how they could add up charges to match other legitimate competitors. One company came in at 3/4 the price, then upon finding what other companies would do, came back and said "oh well we didn't take into account that we would need to rent a crane" (it's a 70 foot tall oak tree in a suburb neighborhood, how the hell else were they going to get it out) and then suddenly the quote was at least twice the original. This entire time Louisiana Tree Company was completely patient, they didn't try any car salesman push tactics, just plain transparency and let the truth speak for itself. Not only did they not try to sop up every dime they could get out of me, the asked to provide to them the opportunity to match my lowest legitimate bid. No other company had the same desire to compete for the job. Not one other time did a company ask to beat the lowest price. So then came the big day. The guys meet up early in the morning. I briefly introduced myself then crashed as I sleep days and work nights. 7 of the 8 companies informed me this would be a 2-3 day job. I feel asleep at approximately 8:30 A.M. By 3:45 PM the job had been completed in full. Robert, his foreman Anthony and entire crew were pretty awesome, very patient, and their quality of work speaks for itself. The company is extremely competitive and provides great and quick work.

08/31/2012 Same as others on here, damage from Isaac to the remaining tree in the back. Called Robert and he agreed to come over ASAP and check it out, even though he had not gotten power back at his own house yet. He and the crew came out within a week to do the work, and finished within an hour with the same quality I have gotten used to using his company 3 times in the last year. Robert is definately my 'Tree Guy' and I have referred him to anyone that needs the same. 11/2011: Robert and crew again came out and finished taking out the Water Oak from his earlier work in July. Can't say enough about the quality of work he provides. This was a massive tree. 07/27/2012 Robert and his crew were great! We had a large Water Oak in the backyard that should have been taken out years ago. It was starting to affect our foundation in the back, so we decided begin the process of getting rid of the thing. I called Robert, partly based on the reviews you will find here (and they are accurate). He gave me several options on how to deal with the tree, gave me a chance to weigh the pro's and con's of each option. Robert knows his business and he knows a lot about trees. He is good with communication, returning phone calls (even while up in a tree). This is a huge change to your yard.... Robert told me this from the beginning, an he is completely correct. It not only changes the whole light aspect in your yard, but also inside the house. In my case, this huge tree was spread out through two other neighbor's yards. Robert took care of contacting these neighbors and securing necessary permissions to get into their yards. He even gave a little lagniappe to one of the neighbors in the form of firewood and some branch trimming. The crew showed up on time, didn't tear up my yard (which was a feat in itself, considering the size of the tree), finished quickly and cleaned everything before they left. Robert and company took this tree down to the crown, and will definately be back this fall to complete stage two, removing the trunk and stump. I would add that the price for this service was more than fair. Robert is also fully insured and emailed me a copy of his policy well before showing up for the work. Thanks again, Robert.... See you in the fall.
Robert arrived on time for our appointment. He immediately identified the very serious problem with our tree. He explained in detail, using laymen's terms when needed, the cause and extent of the damage. Robert was the 2nd person to evaluate the tree and by then I knew the situation was urgent and dangerous. The tree would have taken out over 50% of our home, potentially killing us. He clearly explained the process his company would use to remove this very large tree from my very small backyard. Robert patiently answered all my questions and treated me with compassion during this crisis. He recognized that while it's routine for him, it was not for me. He recognized the cost was making a stressful situation much worse. Due to a communication failure on my part, I selected a different company. When I called Robert with the news and reason, it was too late to correct my error as the other company had already started the job. Despite this, Robert remained professional, kind, and compassionate. He spoke honestly about his confidence in the company doing the work. Robert's graciousness helped me to feel better about my decision and about the quality of Robert's character. Finally, Robert even provided me with additional, helpful information. Through this process and Robert's generous advice I now know trees must receive routine check-ups to avoid potential and very serious problems. I will be calling on Robert for the future maintenance of my trees, and will recommend R&J without hesitation to friends, family members and neighbors.
