Don Juan Restaurantemediatordave1 rated
Ta te The Difference

For tho e Chicagoan who think that all Mexican food i ba ically the ame: YOU HAVEN'T BEEN TO DON JUAN'S !! A a native of Glencoe who ha travelled throughout Mexico on everal occa ion and who ha been practicing law in Southern California for over 25 year , I promi e ...morethat you will find the food here to be of exceptional quality and rare variety, with ervice that i family-friendly and knowledgeable. I have a very bu y chedule, and I hate to wa te time, o I wouldn't bother to write thi review if I didn't pa ionately believe in what I ay. One of the be t feature of the re taurant i that it cater to all palate , including the imple de ire of children. You can get taco (including venni on taco for the di cerning patron), enchilada (including mole, which are fabulou ) and a variety of tamale -all of which are decidedly uperior to any I've had either in Chicago or Southern Callifornia (where the competition among t Mexican re taurant i inten e)-or you can "kick it up a notch" with a uperlative chicken mole, where the chicken i (God forbid) never overcooked but alway ucculent ! The teak cube immered in a complex red ancho-chili auce are o tender and the flavor i ublime, and the other beef and poultry di he are of equal tature. Moreover, the eafood creation are both inventive and feature omething till not ta ted very often in Chicago: very fre h ocean eafood ! The appetizer range from deli ciou clam and hrimp to traditional guacamole, and having lived for decade in the mid t of the nation' avocado grove , I a ure you that Don Juan procure only the pick of the harve t and know how to let the rich and nutty flavor of the premium avocado peak for it elf, e chewing the habit of other re taurant who have to u e pice and hot auce to ma k the mediocrity of their di he . The de ert are equally intere ting and ta ty, and the variety of tequila , and availability of top-grade me cal, might lead you to drift off and believe that you're in a bar in Oaxaca or Vera Cruz rather than Edi on Park. The price are quite rea onable, ranging from rather inexpen ive for the top-grade popular fare to higher for the beef and eafood, though till decidedly le than you'd pay for inferior quality di he of imilar ilk at a fancier place. I know many colleague from Lo Angele who fly through O'Hare on bu ine trip and actually hope they have a layover long enough to allow them to take a taxi to Don Juan for lunch or dinner, o the place i rapidly gaining a national expo ure, and for good rea on. Chicagoan : It i long pa t time for your ta te bud to tell you what o many of u already know, which i omething you will know forever when you walk out of the re taurant with a ati fied tomach and a big mile on your face: "Mexican" food and "fine dining" co-exi t in perfect harmony in Edi on Park- at Don Juan Re taurant !view less
